Luau's on Oahu near Honolulu/Waikiki

We have also been to Germaines. We rode a bus there. They will pick you up. The bus ride itself was very entertaining. There was a guide on the bus with you that would tell you about different things on the way, and we would play games--like everyone flashing their cameras at another bus as we went by and then we would all duck down as that bus passed us back and their passengers flashed their cameras--thinking they were doing the same to us. They only got pictures of an empty bus. It was really funny. The guide said we were flashers. We had to go through an industrial area to get to the luau but once there it was on a really pretty beach area. There was a lighthouse and I got some really pretty sunset pictures. The food was delicious and the dancing was very entertaining. We read up before going and read that it was the best one to go to.

yes, it is a long confusing drive to the place.
busses stop at most of the hotels to provide the transportation which is great when you are a tourist.

germaines is a family run business and has a great reputation.
it is longer than the other luau's on the island.

it really is a full night of entertainment....

i drove to Germaines as i had my brother with me.
he has lived there since 1989, so i do visit him regularly.

he was impressed with the authenticity of the luau.

go when it first opens and walk around the beach area.
do not miss the ceremony of the pig in the pit.
this is prior to the stage event.

Thanks everyone. A friend who has been also suggested Germaine's but I wanted to see what others thought. Is it first come, first served seating or are you assigned seat numbers when you make the reservation? Did you buy your tickets directly from them or one of the tour companies? The prices vary about $10 a person that way.

residents of hawaii receive discounts for different attractions and hotels, in their state.
therefore, my brother bought the tickets for us.
we did get it cheap, about $40 each.
i know, they cost a lot more.

brother called direct to germaines and ordered and paid for our tickets over the phone. he was given a confirmation number.

we chose our own table, no assigned seating when you book.
if you get there before the tour buses arrive, you have a great chance of sitting up front by the stage.
each table probably seats about 20.

(if you have ever been to Biergarten at epcot, seating is like that, but longer tables.)

you get 3 alcoholic drink coupons with the admission price.
once you have used them, you pay for the drinks.
all other beverages are free and unlimited.

the buffet is way back behind the tables.
the stage is opposite.

we sat up front for the view of the show.
an employee will go to different sections of the table area and let them know when it is their turn to go to the buffet.

that way it is very organized and the buffet is not swamped.......

you can go back for seconds, thirds, etc once all tables have been called up.

i suggest booking direct with germaine on their website.
you can later call them once in hawaii to let them know which hotel you will be at if you use their buses.

germaines does sell out frequently on certain nights.
we booked 4 weeks in advance.

I visited both Germaines and Paradise Cove on Oahu. Both are very good. I enjoyed Germaines and would surely return, but Paradise Cove is good too. It is bigger and seemed a little more crowded, but the show was terrific. I also visited with a resident so the tickets were much cheaper, but I can report that we called that day and had no problem getting tickets. This was in July. Have fun!!
