Just asking for some opinions. DD wants to take her two small children (5,2) and wondering if they will enjoy it. I'm guessing no. It seems like a lot of money to spend on a meal that doesn't really appeal to me. I was thinking of suggesting that she and her husband go, and husband and I (Namaw and Peepaw :) do something else with them???

I don't know about the kids, but DH and I hated the luau. The story was cheesy the food wasn't bad, but Disney has so much great entertainment that this is truly a waste of money.

We are doing the luau for the first time on our next trip, our girls will be 8 and 10. It's the first time I think they'll be able to handle the dinner show, it's a long dinner! I wouldn't dare at 2, maybe at 5, but I would still hesitate! I would save the money and do it another time, or as you generously offered, they go alone, though I think I would want date night to be somewhere other than the luau :)

You could always just do Ohana, not exactly Luau but Hawaiian nonetheless. It's a good meal, less expensive, and you can be done in an hour. Plus they have a little bit of entertainment where the kids get up and follow the leader around the room.

Dinner at 'Ohana is a much better alternative for small children. I wouldn't even consider the Luau for kids that young.

I was disinterested, bored and sleepy at the Luau, and I'm a bit older than 2 and 5, combined.

;)

We do SOA every trip. The food is Disney ribs and chicken. The show is cheesy but the dancing is entertaining. For a kid I'd bag it.

We really enjoy the luau. The 2 year old wouldn't care but our DD really enjoyed it at 5.

We took our DD at 14 months- she literally had just started walking 3 weeks before she went- and SHE LOVED IT. We had tier one seating and they put us right in front, so our DD sat in a high chair in the very first row. She loved the food (we try to avoid pasta and chicken fingers if possible), and she ate everything. She loves the salad, and chows down on the ribs - which a still her favorite!. Also, they are really accommodating with food and picky eaters- I casually asked if by chance they had rice- our DD loves it- and brought out a side for her!
We all loved the entertainment- I especially enjoyed the male review (ahem...Disney's version of Magic Mike? lol) - but our DD was never bored and loved every bit. At the end she got out of the high chair and was dancing around making people laugh.

She has been twice since- at 3 and 4.5. She LOVES it.

Yes, it's expensive- no doubt. But, for 2+ hours of entertainment, food, and alcohol - it really seems reasonable to me. Well, Disney reasonable. I must admit, if I weren't a drinker I would be annoyed with the price tag.

Now, it was a must-do on our list Disney things- but we went this past October and they had changed the show a bit. My daughter didn't notice the difference, but we did. Since that was our 3rd time going with her, we've decided on this upcoming 2016 trip we will skip it.
