Luau from balcony

That is such a joke…of course they would call security because nothing is ever to be enjoyed free by Disney.
Strongly disagree. The kids weren't on the lanai watching the show. That would have been perfectly okay. The kids were on the path in the courtyard of a closed event.

They said they were on a path between the lanai and the main walkway so to me that sounds like they were off the main path and on the grassy area. Is the grassy area off the bottom floor lanai off limits too? If that’s the case Disney should own the airspace above the luau and keep the rest of the floors from watching the show as well. Just saying if a few well behaved kids are watching the luau quietly from the grass in front of the lanai off the main walkway who gives two hoots.

Yes. They use that space for various pre-show activities. Poi making, ukulele lessons, flower bracelets, tattoos.

Gotcha last year they were doing it all within the luau grounds when I was there. So here is my next question if said area is unoccupied after the start of the show is it still such a problem? Not that I am going to change any policy but seems ridiculous. Granted if some one had a pool chair and a picnic set up there I could see but kids being kids seems excessive.

We had a first floor room off halawai lawn in December. The security said we could only sit on our lanai during the show, not on the sidewalk. The security guards stand at the end of each “rock path” btw the lanais and main sidewalk—they stand with their backs to the lanais/hotel room like security guards at a music concert.

The back of the halawai lawn was set up with the buffet serving stations so you couldn’t be there unless you had a wristband.

Is this considered an "island view" room???
We had an IV room on our last trip several years ago but were not able to see the lawn - we were to the left of this and around the corner - truly an "island view / parking garage view" as the resort was completely sold out / full due to an incoming hurricane (a lot of people canceled flights and stayed longer) so we didn't get our "requested" view of the lawn. We have an OV booked this next trip and I am hoping for a true OV room. Still trying to decide what type of request to put in for our room....but I was thinking the other side of the tower would be better....there's quite a point difference between IV and OV....

Yes it is considered a true IV room once they build a resort next door you will look at that

What was your view beyond the lawn? I was thinking I might not want to be too high facing that direction because of the empty lot where the Atlantis was (is?) supposed to go.
Atlantis is dead. The developers are based out of China, and ran into a huge cash shortage when the government cracked down on foreign investment. They’re desperate for additional funds to finish a huge tower under construction downtown here in Los Angeles. I believe their plan is to apply the sale money to this other project.

Sooner or later (probably later) something will be built on that land, but I hope it’s not something as gargantuan as Atlantis would have been.

Someone new very recently bought the land. Not Atlantis… but we may see something soon-ish. I’d guess not for a year or so while they go through designs and approval. Well, selfishly I’m hoping not till after July!

Soon-ish might mean 5 years as well. That last developer held on to the parcel for years. Who knows if they even have financing. That said, I hope whatever goes up there will have a few nice restaurants!

As I know it would never happen I wish Disney would buy it and either expand or put another resort there.

Given Aulani still isn't sold out, I wouldn't hold me breath.... It would be nice but
Yeah, it would be great. I’d also be happy if it was used for an expansion of the shopping area across the street, but that ain’t happening either!

Or a waterpark!!! Which I know isn’t happening on oceanfront property but I love the Disney water parks so much. I could stay in the Aulani lazy river all day—imagine a whole waterpark that gorgeous 🤩

Only an extra $99/ day per guest lol

We had a 2 bedroom suite on the ground floor (sorry can’t remember the room number) and could see and hear the show clearly from the lanai. It was a perfect view. There was a footpath from the lanai to the main walkway, and some of our kids were sitting on the footpath. The group patrolling the walkway said they had to go back onto the lanai or they would call hotel security, but we saw several people doing the same thing.
I can understand why they would do this. First it is "just on the pathway", then people creep up to "just on the edge of the lawn". We all know how that goes. They have to draw a line somewhere and I think that it is reasonable to close off the whole area for the couple of hours.

For my next trip we're going with 2 bedroom Island Garden View. Debating between requesting a low floor on the Hālāwai Lawn versus a high floor facing back onto the island. Has anyone with a room with a view of the luau stage watched the full show from there? Is the audio and angle decent? I've seen the luau twice and we're probably going to do one off campus this trip, but if we can grab a "free" view of Ka Wa'a, that's just a bonus.
We had room 1559 during Christmas 2019. I don't have pics but we had a great view

We are in 481, a 2 bedroom island garden view and have a fantastic view of the luau.
