I just wanted some feedback on this. We have ADR for the 8 o'clock show when we are there. Is it worth it? Thanks

Many on these boards prefer Hoop De Doo Review, but we enjoyed the luau when we did it. The food was tasty (better than Hoop De Doo) and the show is great.

The food was good, service excellent.... the show is LAME!

Until they revamp the show, or bring back the original, we would just avoid the Luau......:sad2:

The food was good, but the "volcano" dessert was pretty terrible.

As for the show - the first part with "auntie" is incredibly lame (she has an incredibly grating voice and she's really quite screechy and annoying). But the actual luau part (i.e. the dancing) was riveting and worth the price of admission.

IMHO - overall the Hoop Dee Doo is probably more consistent, but the "good" parts of the luau overshadow the HDD every time. But, you have to go through the EXCRUCIATING to get to the good... ;)

Believe what people are saying here. My DH and I did it last time we were in WDW and while it wasnt the worst couple of hours spent, it wasnt worth that great either. Perhaps if we had kids they would've gotten a kick out of the fire stuff... that part was cool but overall I didnt feel like the experience was worth the money. So if you have time and money to throw around at WDW, go for it. If you're really trying to choose your experiences (and budget) carefully, I say skip it.

we enjoyed ourselves at this show last september. The fire dancer was awesome!! Check it out for yourself- you may be surprised.

We enjoyed it last October - DD5 was absolutely mesmerized - especially throughout the dancing in the second part of the show!:goodvibes

We are going to the 9:30 show on June 19th. That is the day we fly in so since we will be on CA time I figured 9:30 was not to late for us (it will only be 6:30 PM CA time!)
How long is this event? I am guessing 1 1/2 hours since there is also an 8 PM show.

We hope we will enjoy this. We love a luau in Hawaii...

The first part of the show is no more lame than HDDR! The second part has real dancers demonstrating real talent and ability! And, even in the first part, there are some hunky guys to watch, so I'm not complaining!

I think show and dinner are approx 1 1/2 to 2 hours total as I recall. I agree the volcano dessert wasn't very good, but the rest of the meal is pretty good (edible anyway, which is more than I can say for HDDR!).

Overall, the luau compares favorably with luaus we've done on Oahu, Maui and Kauai (and WDW's is less money), although the location can't compare to a beach in Hawaii with the sun setting. But, if you want a Hawaiian tourist experience without the trip to Hawaii, it's fun and enjoyable. We'd do it again.

Our boys (11) prefer HDDR and its slapstick humor. The adults prefer the luau.

For the price I would rather do the HDDR or attend La Noube. I have been to all three and would have to rank them.

1. La Noube, even though there is no food. Was very cool. Even rivited our 4,5 and 7 year old boys (at the time) the whole show. No fidgeting or fighting the whole time of the show, a new record!

2. HDDR- It's just plain fun w/good food. Best Dinnershow at WDW

3. Luau- Distant third, Had such high expectations and it didn't live up to them. Very dissappointed. Unless you are in the good seats you can get some pretty horrible views.

My DH and I went to the Luau in March 2006 and the HDDR in December 2006. Food at either was ok. Service at both was good. We much preferred the Luau show to the HDDR. So much so that when we return this December, we are taking the group of eight there instead of HDDR.

I'd much rather look at the Island Boys than Western Garb any time!
