Hello fellow Dis-ers!
I have a 6 year old son, and 3 year old daughter. My husband and I are contemplating making a reservation for the Luau show at the Polynesian. I had attended once before -- but that was years ago, and from what I've read on-line, it has changed alot.
Has anyone been to it recently? Is it worth it? Do you think the kids will be interested? Is the food good? (I remember not being impressed with the food way-back-when, but things change...maybe that got better.)
And if you do recommend it -- what would you suggest for seating? Is tier 1 really 'that much' better than tier 2 or tier 3?
Thanks!!

My experience with the luau was bad. other than the fire jugglar at the end the show was kind of boring and the people at the resort itself were very rude and nasty, they ran the show to late and wouldn't help us get a way back to our resort.

It was a highlight for my family. Granted, my kids are older (DD10, DS8). The food was hands-down my favorite meal of the trip. Everything just tasted so good!! The show was a little hokey, but entertaining nonetheless. I read all of the horrible reviews after I'd already booked it, and I almost cried. But by then it was too late to switch to Hoop Dee Doo Review, so I figured we'd just go and if it was crappy, we'd laugh about it together as a family. Turns out we all had the best time!

I'm not sure it would be so much fun for kids your ages. They might prefer HDDR. I have never been, so I can't compare, but most people seem to agree that given the choice, HDDR is the better show, especially for younger kids.

If you have your heart set on it though, please don't let all the bad reviews scare you out of trying it.

We took DS (7 at the time) last August when we had free dining. DH and DS didn't enjoy the show very much--I thought it was ok. I really enjoyed the salad, rice, bread, and fresh pineapple. DH and DS filled up on the chicken.

I don't think we'd be willing to pay for this show (although are happy to pay to see HDDR).

If you're set on going, I'd say Tier 1 would be worth the extra money. They didn't have the tiered seating last summer and we were lucky enough to be seated at the second table from the front in the direct center. With only 2 people in front of our view, I still had a bit of difficulty seeing the entire show.
