Luau at Poly??

Has anyone here ever done the special (aka:expensive) luau dinner at the Polynesian before? I am not sure of the proper name of the event. We ate at Ohanas for the first time last trip, and enjoyed that very much. We liked the food and the atmosphere, and I was wondering how everyone rated the special Luau dinner. Any and all comments, as well as pics , are welcome!

We did that 2 years ago. The food was wonderful and the show was cute. It was a little cheesy at times, but the performers were wonderful!! Worth every penny!

We ate there in November, 2006 and had a fun time. The yummy drinks helped that a bit - haha. Yes, the show was a little corny, but it was a fun experience.

There is no longer a character luau. The entertainment is music and different traditional dances. It's a good show.....some say corny...I say family oriented. We try to go every trip. The food is good and plentiful.

We went on our last trip and plan to go again in November. The show was very good (the guy with the twirling flames is awesome!) and the food was fantastic. Especially the rice. The desert...oh my....everything was scrumptious. My 16 year old really can't wait to go back!

We tried it on our Honeymoon back in Dec. 2002! LOVED it then, the food the show, (the seating we were in the front row), etc. Then went back in May 2004 and it was a different experience (I believe it was a different name as well). We were eaten by bugs (we were seated at the front row again), but the show was the same, and the food was still phenomenal (same menu as in 2002). They had this amazingly yummy pineapple bread, fried rice, chicken and a super yummy salad. At the time, all the food was unlimited and they kept it coming!

Not sure what the menu is like now, we would try it again, maybe next year when DD is 3, I think we'll skip the show this visit and dine at O'hana.

The menu is much the same. Chicken, ribs, fish, rice, steamed veggies, the delicious pineappe bread. and volcano chocolate dessert.

Pretty traditional enterainment? Hula dancers and flame eaters? Anything else anyone remembers? Do they teach the audience dances too? This is starting to sound like fun! Do you think it is worth the $$$?

We think it is definitely worth the money. They do have minimal participation from a few guests. It's a nice entertaining evening.

The newer Spirit of Aloha is OK but not as good as the old show. Being outside the weather factors in to it. The last time we went it was down right cold. They use to have you pose outside for a single picture that cost about $10.00. Now they have the pictures taken and they are presented to you while you dine and they are much more expensive. If you have never been , try it. Its worth a shot..smjj

It's deffinately worth the money. Although it is cheesy in the begining. The traditional dances and such are wonderful to watch. They let the kids up on stage and let them do a short dance they teach them. Very cute to watch. The food is very good and is pretty much what has already been listed. Deffinately worth doing.....although I'd avoid the pic lines. While cute, they deffinately are more expensive then what they're worth!

No, there are no Disney characters in the show.

DS and DD both liked the show. The kids got to get up and try their hand at the hula. I had to bribe them with a stuffed animal to get them to do it. But then, anyone who has a birthday in July was asked to come up and try. Guess what! It was my birthday trip! DS and DD insisted that I go up. Not that DH was much help in this department. Oh well, it was fun! Doing HDDR this year. Hope it is as much fun!

Does anyone know what kind of adult beverages are included in the price? It says tropical drinks on allears, but I was wondering if this is like pina coladas or mai tais? Or is it is just draft beer and wine?

Definately NOT worth the price. Ohana is a much better experience.
