Hello!

I called to make luau reservations for July 20 and was told that it will be held in the Islands Dining Room every Saturday night. The cost is $24.50 for adults and $9.75 for children 12 and under. This includes the show and buffet.

The Luau buffet includes:

* Tropical fruits with minted papaya-seed dressing
* Mixed native greens with hearts of palm and citrus
* Ahi Tuna Polk Salad with Ginger Soy Vinaigrette
* Lomi chicken salad with Maui onions, tomatoes and green scallions
* Traditional Callaloo Soup with mahi mahi, sweet potatoes, chili peppers and okra.
* Pit-roasted suckling pig with spiced rum infused pineapple puree
* Whole roasted South Pacific Salmon with kaffir lime and soy dressing
* Fried sweet plantains
* Medley of vegetables with island spices and toasted almonds.

The Luau runs from 6-10pm!

Beside the luau the hotel is also going to host TWO OTHER THEME NIGHTS at Islands Restaurant. Both with entertainment and themed buffet.

Every Thursday is AUSTRALIAN BARBEQUE and Friday's are FEAST OF BALI. The cost is still $24.50 for adults and $9.75 for children under the age of 12. Both buffets will feature live musicians, native dancing and more!

The Australian Barbeque Buffet Includes:

* Queensland Sunshine Coast carrot and celery salad with grilled pineapple and sultanas
* Marinated Calamari Steaks with garlic steamed broccoli and ginger-soy vinaigrette
* Rocket Lettuce Salad with grape tomatoes, feta cheese, kalamata olives and sliced red onion
* "Mediterasian" Jasmine Rice Salad
* Julienne Chicken Salas with artichokes and hearts of palm
* Spicy shrimp soup with lemongrass
* Seared hoisin chicken breast with mango and scallion relish
* Tasmanian smoked salmon with shaved shallots and capers
* Potato and roasted corn gratin
* Stir Fry medley of vegetables

The Feast Of Bali Buffet Includes:

* Pineapple and melons in coconut honey cream
* Spicy green bean salad with peanut sauce
* Balinese Gado-Gado with tofu, steamed vegetables and potatoes
* Lime-marinated seafood salad with mint and cucumbers
* Seafood Laksa with rice noodles and chili coconut broth
* Satay of chicken and beef with peanut sauce and ketjap manis
* Curried side of snapper, steamed in banana leaves with sambal bajak
* Toasted coconut jasmine rice
* Grilled island vegetables with turmeric

The women said she LOVED the new resort and that so would I. She said it is so tropical and beautiful. It really makes you feel like you are on the South Seas somewhere! I can hardly wait!

Take care!!!!!

That is a theme night at Islands Buffet, they have had that since it opened. Does this mean they aren't having the outdoor luau? I thought I had seen an outdoor area that the bellhop told me was for the luau.

Has anyone done the Luau at RPR?

The food sounds fantastic, I wondered what the show is like though?

Are any non-alcoholic drinks included with that $24.50 or is there an extra charge for soda, iced coffee, iced tea, etc?

That sounds like fun. Wonder if Barry will be doing the hula this Saturday night.

South Pacific salmon????? I never heard of such a fish! LOL And I have been to many many luaus and have even made a few for family celebrations and am sad to admit that none of the menu items are familiar. :( BUT, I would go to the luau because the dishes sound interesting and will probably be delicious.

But Barry dancing, I don't know. Ohai and I were with him at the Sea World Park "Hawaiian" show and we tried to get him to volunteer, but he wouldn't. And we could have coached him so he could have been a star! :p

But don't these buffets have deserts????

Aloha,
Donna

Alright Donna,
So, what's on the menu for you real folks there?
And where you been girl!? Was Cali Uni good for ya'll? Hope so!!
Got Pompano & Whiting for dinner here (no grass skirts tho... rats!)
Anyone on your island there make a good ukelele? Need one!
Jim

Okay Jim, I will list usual luau dishes (but remember everyone that we do eat this and please don't hurt my feeling by making fun of these ethnic foods ;) ):
Kalua pig (roasted in an imu in the ground)

Lomilomi salmon (small pieces of salted North Pacific salmon mixed with tomatoes and green onions with ice water - lomi means massage)

Poi (mashed taro root)

Raw fish and crab - usually prepared with sea salt and sea weed (limu) and if it is a good luau - opihi(raw limpets)

Limu

squid luau - octopus cooked in coconut milk with luau leaves

sticky rice - as opposed to fluffy (Ohai refers to your fluffy rice as buckshot LOL)

chicken long rice - chicken stewed with rice noodles

teriakyi - beef or venison

Deserts - cake and haupia (coconut pudding)

Depending on the family, there may be additional Filipino, Chinese, and Japanese dishes.

So tell me, do you think an authetic luau would sell? :p

Aloha,
Donna

Yum! Everything sounds wonderful:D .

I have a question:

sticky rice - as opposed to fluffy

Is this rice stuck to the bottom of the pan (sort of burnt)?
I have a friend from Iran who makes that type, and it is very good.

Muushka,
No, that would be papaa rice and my family would be unhappy. Sticky rice is when it stays(sticks) together after being cooked and not like the rice they usually make in the mainland where it is referred to as fluffy and the grains of rice tend to separate.
Barry, can you explain it better???
Donna

Sticky rice is made by using a rice cooker. If the rice is unsticky, it is the yucky Uncle Ben's.

So in closing -- if you go to a Chinese restaurant and the rice sticks, then it is a good place. If it doesn't stick, you're probably eating at a McDonald's version of a Chinese restaurant.

Real rice sticks! :)

It is true, that we use a rice cooker now to cook our rice every day, but when we were first married, we use to cook it on the stove and it was still sticky rice. I think it is the rice we use. Definitely not Uncle Bens. Barry, what type of rice does the RPH serve?
