Lower Point Requirements @ DLR !

I just talked to MS about next Thanksgiving at GC and she said the only decrease in points will be at the DLH. What a difference though, GC-216 points for four nights, DLH-128.

This makes perfect sense to me, IF they are going to build DVC in California. Since they obviously can't build a DVC resort in DL overnight, they definitely want to start selling the memberships right away, however, the people who buy in the early stages need a California point usage option prior to completion of the resort. Viola! Lower point requirements at the DLH! I suspect we will see the same thing at both of the other hotels, IF my/our predictions of the California DVC are correct. I am California Dreaming....... :rockband:

Well, I can tell you that when the guy died that owned the strawberry fields across the street a few years back, Disney bought up the property from his kids within 24 hours of his death. DL now uses it as their CM parking lot and they shuttle the CM's across the street. They talked about a water park there at one time.............hm.............maybe there is some plans to put in a DVC there and they are trying to check out the interests by lowering points?

We go to DL all the time and do not use points because we can get a much better deal by using dollars and not points for staying there.

As a DVC member that lives in California, I am very excited about lower point costs for rooms at the DisneyLand Hotels. I am not sure that I would buy points at a DisneyLand DVC resort but it sure would be nice to have the option at 7 months.

Definitely confirms that I got bad information from MS yesterday (and I specifically mentioned the GC to the person I spoke with yesterday twice). Now, I have to decide if I want to bump down my ressie to the DLH and put 32 reservation points in my account. Hmm.

That's a very good conclusion. Another would be they are selling SSR points and want to make it more attractive for folks to use those points in their own backyard.

Time will tell...

Another very good conclusion.

Thanks Again Lisa!

I just booked 2 nights in November (school holiday). Bought our plane tickets and will use Mary's sight for our park tickets.

Girls weekend in Disneyland! :cool1:

Well....I just booked Paradise Pier for Febuary of 06. Points were the same as the website. Should I call back???? 25 points for a standard view, Saturday to Wednesday.

Thoughts??

Don't call back unless you want to change to DLH. The point reduction is only for DLH not the other two.

I got DLH in November for 23 points per night!

So funny because when I saw California DVC, I immediately thought of the strawberry field. Disney tried to get it for years and years and years, but the old man wanted to leave it for his kids legacy (ie keep the business in the family) Smart kids gave in to Disney soon after he died - they had upped the price over the years, and this was just around the DCA development time.

The trolley drivers around DL all tell stories about the famous field. For a long time after it became a parking lot, the family still sold fruit and veggies at a small stand near the street.

Yes, those trolley drivers have all the info!!! Last year when we were at DL the fruit stand was still there. Now, just a fruit stand with a little tiny field off to the side with strawberries and veggies. We stop there everytime we are there and buy from them. We will be there May 5th. Will have to check out the latest and see if the stand is still in business.

Best strawberries!!!!

Oh....and someone asked how we find out this stuff.......I grew up in Southern California so we were at DL all the time through the years.

Any DVC member, who wants to go to Disneyland between now and the end of 2006, should not hesitate in making reservations at the Disneyland Hotel! I was told, when I made my reservation for February, President's Day week, that there was a lot of interest in the reduced points.

I will be getting two rooms for four nights on the concierge level, 9-11th floor, at 42 points per room per night (336 points). The points listed in our vacation planner is 56 points per room per night (448 points for my rooms)! I will be saving 112 points!

Honestly, I have been a member for 13 years and this is the first real "sale" I have been able to take advantage of. I had even expected the points would increase on Jan 1st, 2006. :sunny:

Thanks to the OP - I was able to get July 18 and 19 at 29 pts per night for a standard view at DLH. Just wish I could have gotten 16th & 17th. Didn't think to ask about the other resorts but when I called a few months ago the points for GC were just too much to consider. We have an offsite hotel just down the street for the first two days so will just have to be up and out early the 17th to be there for the opening. Will definitely stop by the DVC kiosks to get the latest info while we are there. Thanks again!

I'm the OP and I'm so glad several of you were able to take advantage of the lower points. We were just at DLR resort a couple of weeks ago and went before the anniversary celebration because we felt the points were too high to stay onsite. You know what that means...another trip!

Also, I'm glad DVC lowered the points for the DLH but we all have to remember that they're not doing us the favor, it's the other way around. Obviously, there must have been a greater demand for ressies at PP and GC or they would have lower points for all three resorts. Quite frankly I'm surprised there are even any rooms available with so many people headed to DLR for the big 50. Another thing I found interesting is the CM I spoke with said the new point chart was good thru 12/31/2006, which is longer than the celebration lasts.

Well, even here in AZ the TV ads have been pushing WDW vacation stays. Also, I've always had the impression that the vast majority of DLR guests are either locals, or folks who stay off-site because on-site isn't as big a benefit as it is at WDW. Still, no gift.horse.mouth.gazing for moi!

Went to The Wiggles concert at the Anaheim convention center last week. The stand and the little field are still there. The Raddison hotel is the big hotel near the field. Boy that area needs some updating!! That side of Harbor is very rundown looking. The ACC side has the Hilton and the Marriott. Overall, Anaheim is really trying to clean up the area around DL. I remember as a kid, lookin at all the little funky motels and knowing we were getting close to DL.

My family goes to Disneyland about every couple of months so I know a little about it. I just wanted to give you some advice that my save you some points. The conceirge level at the DLR is a rip off. They only serve continental breakfast and cheese and crakers in the afternoon. They will make reservations, but you can do it yourself from the room. Trust me, I'm not a penny pinchure, and like to traditionally stay in those types of rooms in other hotels, but at the DLR it is just not worth it. They even monitor how many drinks you take from there at one time and you may not even end up in that tower. If you want it to have it then go for it, but they don't even give you a special key any more and normal rooms are not located on the same floors. Have a good time and I hope I don't sound like a black cloud, but just wanted to warn you. I hope you love the DLR, because we reallly do!!! :sunny:

DH and I went to an open house yesterday for SSR, we were told that this is only for the DisneyLand Hotel and its for the 50th Celebration. We are most likely going to become DVC owners. We have til Wednesday to decide to get the discount they are now having. We were planning for Disneyland in 2006, so will probably use our points there.

We did the concierge level a year ago, and really enjoyed it! The rooms have a better view (I believe they are only in the Sierra Tower), and there is a separate elevator, which can really be a timesaver at certain times of the day. There was continental breakfast in the morning, then mid-day there are sodas and snacks, then in the afternoon wine and cheese, and in the evening desserts. Perhaps it has changed in the last year, but we really enjoyed taking advantage of it. The key wasn't "special", but it was coded to allow us access to the concierge lounge, which has a great view of Downtown Disney and the parks.

Last time we had it, they put us in the bonita tower. I realize that they do have some aspects, but in comparison to the GC where they have hot food and chocolate covered strawberries, the extra 125 a day is not worth it. They don't even include conceirge for suites anymore, you have to pay extra. But like I said, everyone has their own likes and dislikes and if you like it then go for it and enjoy.
