Hi Everyone,

We’re planning to go in early November and really want to stay onsite, but resort inventory is crazy low right now (two adults, three kids for 7 nights).

I’m sure some of this is due to 50th anniversary stuff and resorts slowly re-opening and what not, but I guess I would love to get some opinions:

- just stay off site? (we would probably only do one park a day and don’t really need to go back and forth to the hotel)
- change dates and try to go before the 50th anniversary stuff (and risk hotter weather and less activities being re-opened)?

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

I'm not sure what is coming up as being available? Is there a particular resort you are hoping for? Swan/Dolphin is typically our go-to if we can't find something we like onsite.

only the cabins and boardwalk show up for our dates. even the dolphin and swan are completely sold out. i guess i’m just wondering if this is even close to normal for 7 months out

Not as many resorts sleep 5 to a room to start, and POR being closed takes a huge chunk of those rooms off the table. A lot of it is “revenge” travel too imo, a lot of people are booking later in the year hoping things will be closer to normal, they can get the kids vaccinated by then, not wanting to do masks in heat etc.

as a PP said a lot less rooms to begin with that sleep 5 and one of those resorts is not open. the cabins and family suites are main things that sleep 5/6. unless one of 3 kids is under 3 years age main rooms would not show for your party as they are for 4 people

The inventory is low for small parties too. I am a party of 3 and the only room for us was Boardwalk Inn. This is for 10/28-11/6. Only suites at AoA and pirate rooms at Caribbean Beach. We normally stay at Beach or Yacht Club. I was just happy to get something booked.

Early November is a major surge period. Jersey week ( NJ school break ), Veterans Day weekend. And finally the Wine & Dine marathon is Nov. 4-7.

Oh one more crowd builder it is also then end of the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot.

Us too!! We're just a party of 2 and ended up at the Boardwalk in a std room for Nov 10-14 - I was just excited to get something!

We’re a family of 6 plus my mom is coming with us this trip. Our dates are 10/25-11/5 and even though we started looking as soon as reservations opened, we still had issues. We ended up planning a split trip between UO & Disney. We’re APs at UO and got more bang for our buck this way, especially with needing/wanting larger rooms. I think there are a lot of factors at play but hopefully you’ll be able to snag someone’s cancellation!

There are a few random full-up dates that throw things off, too. We usually stay at CSR and found that every single room is booked on Thursday 11/18 - why that day? Who knows. Before that there are regular rooms available; after that, it's only GDT. I know Jersey Week and Thanksgiving are big factors, but that in-between week seems odd this year compared to normal too.

I'm guessing it's partly because they haven't reopened all rooms yet bc of covid. I would keep checking weekly to see if more rooms get released as covid regs relax a bit. Just my humble guess...

Almost every room at Disney World has a max capacity of 4 people. That's why you're not seeing anything.

There are some rooms that have larger capacity: the suites at All-Star Music (currently not open), the suites at Art of Animation, the pirate rooms at Caribbean Beach Resort, and the cabins at Fort Wilderness. I believe there might be some expensive options available at the deluxe resorts as well, but I'm not familiar with those options!

Of the ones that hold 5, my personal favorite are the cabins at Fort Wilderness. Fort Wilderness has the most immersive themeing of any of the Disney resorts I've been to, and it almost feels like you're staying at the nicest national park ever. Another decent option are the pirate rooms at CBR because of their access to the Skyliner hub. Some people don't like the pirate rooms because they are farther from everything and require a lot of walking.

Edit: I just looked at the dates for Nov. 2-7, and it looks like the cabins and the suites at Art of Animation are both available, but the pirate rooms at CBR are not. With both AoA and Ft Wilderness cabins, you'll get 1 separated bedroom as well as some beds in a shared area, a bathroom, and at least a kitchenette (the cabins have a full kitchen). Art of Animation are decorated with various Disney movies, such as Cars and Lion King. Fort Wilderness isn't decorated with movies but instead has a wilderness theme. Art of Animation has access to the Skyliner to Epcot & Hollywood Studios, while Fort Wilderness has access to the boats to Magic Kingdom.

Here's a blog for you to read: Pros and cons of Art of Animation suites versus Fort Wilderness cabins: https://www.disneytouristblog.com/art-animation-fort-wilderness-hotel-comparison/

There might not be availability for it, but if there is, I would HIGHLY recommend Fort Wilderness over Halloween night if you can make it on October 31. All the campers go all-out decorating their camping sites and golf carts with Halloween decor. They usually put on a Halloween golf cart parade and have trick or treating all over Fort Wilderness. I'm not sure if it will be back this year, but the headless horseman usually rides through Fort Wilderness as well on specific dates in October. Again, I'm not sure what all will and won't be available at this time due to COVID, but here is another post for you to check out regarding Halloween at Fort Wilderness: https://www.wdw-magazine.com/halloween-secret-fort-wilderness/

This. I mean quite a few resort still aren't open, especially felt in the moderates. Of course there will be less availability.

I bet it’s not even just the fact that a lot of hotels, esp. moderates, are still closed. With the exception of the DVC resorts which have to be open fully, I wouldn’t be surprised if WDW didn’t have enough staff on hand to fully open the resorts that are open. They are having trouble hiring enough people to get back up to full capacity right now and until they know they can do that they are probably being conservative about making more rooms available than they could handle. As they are able to hire more CMs they will be able to open more room inventory.

Believe me, I highly doubt they want to turn people and their money away at this point.

I agree, not many rooms available in early November. I've been trying to book a couple rooms for a family vacation and the only resorts available are the expensive ones. I was ready to book off site but suddenly on Friday rooms opened up at All Star Movies. I still need another room though. I've not had this issue booking seven months ahead before. We wanted a few nights at POP then transfer to SOG but both of them are full. I'm hoping more hotels open before we go.
