How often do you see resales for 100 points or less? I'm just dying to buy into DVC with a resale, but my significant other is not prepared to spend thousands for something he is not sure about. I have convinced him to buy small, and add on. He is hoping for 50 or less, but I would love to convince him 100 or less. How often do these come available?

Small resale contracts do come up, but they are rare, and in many cases the resale brokers have a waiting list so sometiimes they get snatched up before they even hit their web sites.

You should also remember that the closing costs are $400 - $450 regardless the size of the contract.

If your significant other is still a bit skeptical about DVC, have you considered renting points and "trying before you buy"?

Good Luck.

They come on quite often. Click on DVC Resales above and you can see a listing at The Timeshare Store. They have over a dozen right now that are under 100 points.

The above poster is correct, the closing costs will be steep on a per point basis at that size, but if its your way into the program then it is just a cost of doing business.

We used Pat Spell for our resale and were very pleased.

Shontell sends out an e-mail and it often has small contracts and you get to view what's available before they go on her website. E-mail her if you want to get on her list.

You'll see 100 from time to time, but very rarely smaller amounts. Perhaps the best way to convince your SO is to show him how little 50 points can buy. If you want to spend a week at WDW each year you'll need about 100 points, and even that will limit you somewhat. If you want to also use your points to trade for a week, say, in Hawaii from time to time you'll need about 150 points. When you spread the purchase and yearly costs over the life of the contract, it's possible to spend significantly less than if you stayed at WDW in first-class accomodations paying rack rate.

We didn't have any trouble finding our 50pt VWL contract last fall. We then added on another 30 points to get to the right number (240 points every three years is plenty for us). The closing was $375 which is a lot per point but we received all banked points.

I appreciate all of the feedback. Now, it looks like the tricky part is either convincing Bill to splurge a little, or keep searching and hoping for smaller point sales. Thanks, Debbie:teeth:
