We are headed to POR on Oct.19th., and need help finding low fat dining options. THe problem is that my mom, who is traveling with us, just started a research study at John's Hopkins and HAS to be limited to 14 grams of fat per day(she gets very ILL if she goes over). Besides bringing her own fat free snacks and salad dressings does anyone have any other suggestions?? Any help would be appreciated :sunny:

That would definitely qualify as a special need; there is a number you can call to see the best way to handle this at the restaurants.

Otherwise, it would seem you would be limited since there is no way to determine how much butter is used like say even for sauted veggies in a buffet line or something like that.

My mother special orders just about everything she eats, and did so at WDW -its no problem. Table service restaurants are better able to accommodate than counter because they just have more to work with. Just tell them exactly what you want, be as specific as possible, make sure you say its for health reasons, and they will make it for you. All the good table service restaurants will be fine, but I will list some places I found helpful:

I found that at AK, the ice-cream carts have a small non-fat ice-cream cup (the listing is small on the bottom of the menu).

The parks have lots of fresh fruit available as snacks.

At MK, plaza restaurant has nice salads and a veggie wrap. Just order exactly how you need it - no cheese, no dressing etc.

California Grill can prepare pretty much however you want it. My mom had sushi/cal roll (make sure no mayo or tempura).

For Breakfasts, you will do much better at a table service restaurant (order egg white omelettes dry or oatmeal made on water), unless your mom wants a bagel or something like that.

At Epcot, for dinner, the japanese restaurant in the front room, my mom got sushi (rolls) and salad (no dressing).

Does anyone know who I could contact and their phone # to ask some dietary questions? Thanks in advance :goodvibes

I did a search, but I couldn't find the exact number. A suggestion was made to call 1-407-wDW-DINE like you are going to make an ADR and discuss special needs with the cast member. They can help or give you the other number that I can't find.

don't forget to research where you want to dine and then think of how some items might be modified...check menus at allears.net under dining. Have mom bring FF salad dressings in single serve packages...I have a link to a place where you can order single serving items like dressings, fat free coffee mates, splenda, etc...mom also needs to ask that they not prepare her chicken/fish/lean meats with butter or sauces. Stick to whole foods like veggies and fruit salads/cups/pieces...

wow it is going to be very tempting for her...I hope she does well with her study...good luck :Pinkbounc
