Anyone out there try to eat low-carb or Atkin's Diet regimen at the WDW Polynesian Resort's "Ohana Restaurant"?
What was your experience?
I am trying to list one restaurant per thread and talk about low-carb eating at that particular restaurant.
A lot of us on the DIS W.I.S.H.(We're Inspired to Stay Healthy) forum are trying to eat low-carb or Atkin's Diet at Walt Disney World.
I will list some of the low-carb foods from the menu below. I can add or subtract the foods as we learn more about the hidden carbs. Maybe we can even add the nutrient values to each food. You can use the links below to research the whole menu. Who wants to start?

Walt Disney World Polynesian Resorts "Ohana Restaurant"
August 14, 2002, Thursday, 5:10 P.M.
When I called WDW dining to make my priority seating, I asked the castmember to please note "diet restrictions". They had various terms, but not Atkin's Diet, or one with no sugar, no flour, no rice, and low carbs all together. So they listed "other," which was fine because when I arrived at the restaurant, they had to ask me specifically what my diet restrictins were.
When I arrived at Ohana, the Castmember Host seemed inexperienced and maybe new to the job and did not acknowlege my diet restriction notation and said that my Castmember waiter would call me.
This was good service that I received from this WDW restaurant.
Chef "Clint" came out to my table and asked me what I needed, and he said that he diabetic needs, but I tried to explain that I could not eat sugar, bread, rice, starches.
These are the recommendations and changes that Chef "Clint" made to his Ohana menu that he made for me.
I thought that I would have an easy time eating low-carb at this mostly meat dinner, but there is sugar in just about everything...lol.
He started down his paper menu and checked under the starters offering and said that he would prepare the "stir fried vegetables" with soy sauce without sugar added. This was good. I picked out the vegetables from the dish like mushrooms and green beens, but not any others.
For the salad, he prepared a separate lettuce with Hidden Valley Ranch dressing on the side. The original salad is prepared with the sugary Honey Lime Dressing. This was very plain, but satifactory.
I skipped the Shrimp and vegetable wonton per his suggestions.
He also prepared special Chicken Wings without the original sugary Honey Corlander.
I skipped the Stir Fried Rice per his request, of course.
I also couldn't use any of the dipping sauces of Fruit, Peanut or Barbeque because of sugar and carbs. I used the Hidden Valley Ranch instead.
They brought all these items out at one time on a "Lazy-Susan"-type device. When the Castmember waiter brought the food out, Chef "Clint" was still there and told the castmember waiter to remove the Honey Lime Dressing Salad and the Shrimp and Vegetable Wonton, and the Honey Corlander Chinchen Wings.
The Castmember waiter quickly returned with a separate bowl of plain salad, but with a separate bowl of the regular Hidden Valley Ranch dressing and a wonderful plate of fresh sliced tomatoes(I had one slice), and slices of hard cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese.
Later he brought out the regular chicken wings and soy sauce stir fried vegetables.
I had water and Diet Coca Cola to drink.
For the main meal, he said the follow main meats were all prepared with minimal carb seasoning and that he would only have to change one item and prepare the Pork Loin with out the barbeque.
They brought out the Grilled Tiger Shimp Shewers first, but I declined.
Then they brought out the the specially grilled Pork Loin without the barbeque, Mesquite Seasoned Turkey Breast and Marinated Sirlon steak skewers, which were all very good and very filling.
I wasn't able to order any of the sugary desserts and they didn't have any strawberries or any berries and whip cream.
They asked if I would like the regular menu dessert of sliced pineapple and caramel dip. I declined the caramel dip, but said that I might eat two or three slices of pineapple. LOL...the Castmember brought out a plate with three large wedges of sliced pineapple. I was just thinking about eating 2 or 3 fork size slices of pineapple and not three full wedges....lol.
All in all, I had a good meal, but if I was eating in a group, the first part of the dinner might be a little embarrassing or a little time comsuming making special requests.
But now, I will know what to eat and what suggestions to make to the chef for the salad, salad dressing, stir-fried vegetables, chicken wings and pork skewers.
Here is the Ohana menu that I copied while down there:

Adult Guest = $23.99, Guest ages 3-11 $9.99, includes coffee, tea and soda.

Stir Fried Rice

They didn't list the caramel dip and sliced pineapple wedges on the menu, but that is what they serve at the end. They also have listed an extensive wine list, tropical drinks list and dessert list, but I won't go there...lol.
God bless, best wishes, and encouragement, RaySharpton
