Lovebugs

I remember back in 1998 I went to Disney in September and there were an insane amount of Lovebugs flying around. I leave for Disney this Monday and want to know if they will be out again?

Yes, they will be out. They seem worse in some places than others. The absolute worst place on property for them is the Coronado Springs. I don't know why.

We are down here now...I have seen some but not a lot. We have been down here when there were tons of them out so to me right now it is 'light'.

Lovebugs are a fly and are harmless. Their lifespan when you seen them isn't that long and they, *cough*, are doing what they need to do to get out the next batch of lovebugs. And those bugs will, em, eat up what is, em, leftover in the wild.

Lovebugs do have an acidic body so when they smack on the car, it's best to wash off the bodies. But, walking around a park, think about it - do you want to smash a body (actually two bodies) on your arm? Let them fly away and they can, well, take care of other, em, bodies.

We were in DW August 30th thru the 7th and there were some but not a problem. I hate bugs so everyone would hear me screaming if landed on me.

Never understood why people made a big deal out of these bugs. They are harmless and don't bite, so who cares if they just fly around?

Some people just don't like bugs and the lovebugs are dark so they look intimidating, there's always two of them and there are many of them at times. Also, they don't care where they are flying or walking because, well, they are, *em*, "busy". We went one time and the flap at the bottom of the resort door wasn't perfect so those little suckers were inside the room at times.

I lived in Florida for a couple of years and never understood the hype either. I remember you just wanted to wash your car often during lovebug season because their are acidic, like a PP said, and not good for the paint.

When splattered on your car they will eat through the paint if not removed ASAP. I posted last week in the community board about them here on the coast.....they are bad.

Personally for me, it's because if they land on you they are very easily squished when you're really only intending to shoo them off. They also stink. I live in lovebug territory, so I've built up a pretty strong dislike for the pesky, pain in the rear, totally useless creatures. In the past they've been so heavy at home that when we're outside, they will be in your nose, ears, and if you open it, your mouth.

I remember being in Disney one September when they were particularly heavy and seeing several cars covered in lovebugs sitting in the parking lot all week. Those poor people were in for an unpleasant surprise when they finally went to wash the car off for the drive home. I almost felt that the guards should have warned people, "Hey, you really need to go wash them off".

But they aren't totally useless. They eat the stuff that has already died so if lovebugs weren't around, you could have some more nasty things laying around that would smell worse. Or - vultures coming down and eating things that were no longer living. Me - I'll take the lovebugs munching away at dead things rather than the vultures. Just my opinion.
