It looks like I have now qualified for the 2014 year again! We have enjoyed the SW companion pass for the previous two years and will again in 2014. This makes it so much easier to have an excuse to go to Disney since someone gets to fly free.

And with the 300,000 pts I have accumulated, our other flights go free also.
Love Southwest!

How do you accumulate 300,000 points? I get to about 30,000 and have to book a trip or I go into withdrawal!!!

With 300,000 pts who needs the companion pass? That amount will buy all kinds of tickets to Disney for me for several years.

Haha, me too! From our airport it is around 10k points round trip so that would be an insane amount of flights to Disney for us! I am still curious how she got that many points in a year!

The Companion Pass requires 110,000 pts per year. My 300,000+ is my accumulated amount. I had lots of Awards from the old system, so used them up first (since they had an expiration date).

When I send flowers, I use Teleflora to gain bonus points and participate in E-Rewards and some special promotions. However, most are from purchases on the SW credit card -- when available shopping through the SW site, where you get double or more points for purchases.

I charge most of my everyday expenses to the SW card, from cell phone bill, utilities, car insurance, and sometimes big purchases. When I bought a car last year, they let me put the down payment on my cc. When I remodeled my house, I was able to buy the materials that the contractor used. He got them and I paid the store, etc.

And yes, I do pay the SW card off each month to avoid any high interest fees. And we usually take at least 3 to 4 trips to WDW a year, so having the Companion Pass and using points for other flights is very nice. I can change persons selected as companions up to 4 times a year with SW. I also "monitor" flights that I have booked and change them if the point requirement decreases as SW places them on sale. Just today I changed 3 flights for November, saving over 2500 more points.

And since the points no longer expire.....if I don't need them for flights, I can use those points for Iphones, Ipads, etc. or lots and lots of gift cards.

DH just earned his companion pass last week by signing up for the SW personal and business credit card. I have had the personal credit card for several years but there is no way I could even come close to earning 110,000 points in a year just from purchases. And I even use it for business dinners, etc.

Good for you!

I received the email this morning! I completed the info about my companion online (my wife). Do I have to wait until I receive the companion membership packet in the mail (about 10 days according to the Southwest website) before booking a flight?

Thanks in advance!
Ryan

No. I assigned my companion and then booked the flight the same day.
