LOVE or HATE FP+ Anyone's mind been changed ??

Just to be contrary, this is not a true argument. FP+ could not replicate FP-, which is why you had to change how you toured the parks.

At the same time, FP- could not replicate what can now be done under FP+.

You just made my head hurt. ;)

Really who wouldn't want to see the Harry Potter attractions at least once? Before Harry Potter, there was nothing that made me want to try Universal Theme Parks when we would stay in Orlando. I've stayed offsite more often than onsite and never went to USO. But now I imagine if we ever stay offsite we may try to get in for one day. Before we would split time with Seaworld, because we really liked it there too.

But if I decide to stay onsite (and pay the premium for it) it is because we want the full Disney experience.

Yep, this is me! My next stay is split. Got nothing to do with FP+ (which I was surprised to find I loved when I visited last April) and everything to do with the new Harry Potter attractions.

I don't call it a split stay- we just tacked on a couple of days at the end, but this is us too. We wanted to see the HP stuff and I'll admit, they did a fantastic job with it. No one can deny that- you'll love it!

lol Sorry. I teach high school math, including Geometry, and we are just about to start our unit on "logical reasoning", so I'm kind of getting in "let's be explicit on what we are saying" mode.

Occupational hazard, but THANK GOD FOR SNOW DAYS!!! Now I can spend today on the Dis instead of lecturing on how to prove trigonometric identities or finding the determinant of a 3x3 matrix.

THAT'S what it is- you're a math teacher! lol

We have a snow day here too- but it's ridiculous. The roads are clear but around here, if they can see snow, they call a snow day. So, there's snow on the grassy surface ( a dusting, I'm serious) and school is out.

It's kind of the same here, but with reason. Half of the district is across a series of bridges built in the 1930's that spans a total of about 10 miles. It is very narrow, and ices up if there is any moisture on it and the temperature drops below freezing. So, even though there is almost nothing in my yard, as a safety precaution they didn't run the buses today, so NO SCHOOL FOR ME!!

None of us claimed it was. The replication discussion began when a poster seemed to have claimed someone's plans with FP+ Could be replicated. They have since (within the last few posts) have clarified the term replicate as defined was not what they meant to say.

Not arguing--simply explaining the detour and that folks requesting to know how something could be replicated did not come with any expectation that it was something possible.

I see from your location- you got much the same storm that came our way yesterday and the day before. All my grown kids are teachers ( Music and English, about as far from Math as you can get lol) so they're pretty happy about it.

DS9 enjoyed a two hour late start this morning. Not because it snowed or iced or anything, but because the temperature was at or below freezing. It's Austin - they call out the National Guard if it looks like 32 degrees will be breached.

Considering they just named a guy with absolutely no park experience whatsoever as chairman of Parks & Resorts.....

Chapek named chairman

Who is Bob Chapek?

Wow - I just listened to today's DIS podcast and was really surprised that they not only reported this but then really ripped into how the guest experience in the parks has been greatly diminished.

I am forcing myself to look forward to not being a Commando. I vow to relax on this vacation and not run myself into the ground. Maybe this time I won't get blisters on my feet because we won't be able to run around and go on ride after ride after ride.

I will very much miss going on headliner attractions many, many times in the same day. I will miss it so, so very much. But I'm trying very hard to believe that there will be a silver lining somewhere in the FP+ cloud of doom.

I didn't listen, didn't have to. This is nothing new. The podcast crew has been openly critical of WDWs guest services for awhile now. Let me guess, they brought up the lack of Traditions Training?

Interesting. So now that Pete has experienced the filthy restrooms, trash in the parks, and the lousy service first hand, maybe he'll realize that FP+ wasn't implemented to increase staff during busier days.

You need to take your finger off that FP+ trigger. I can assure you that in this instance FP+ has absolutely nothing to do with dirty restrooms and/or custodial staffing.

I believe the words you're looking for are My Magic+. ;)

Very much agree, nothing to do with FP+, everything to do with cutbacks and staffing reductions and pursuing increased profits ... and really that's what MM+ and FP+ are a part of as well. But they aren't really the cause, just another symptom of the same thing.

But that's no reason to say that someone like me, who likes picking my park days and rides in advance, should not be able to. Why can't we just plan if we want to, or not if we don't?

That's fine. But in that case, the system should be more flexible.

That's what you're getting at right?

Swing and a miss.

You don't want to pick park days, restaurants, or rides for yourself, but that's not enough... You'd prefer that other guests not get to pick them either, so that when you get to the park and decide last minute where to go, you are not at a disadvantage to those who planned ahead?

Nope. The system should be flexible enough to handle BOTH kinds of guests, but it's not. If people want to have a system that allows them to not have to rope drop in order to not wait in line, why is that MORE acceptable than having a system where someone could drop a prime FP+ slot and get something else for whatever they wanted within a reasonable time frame? That never happened for me, especially at EPCOT, DHS and AK. MK was fine, mostly due to a lack of tiering and a plethora of attractions.

Are you implying that Disney doesn't care about the guest experience? ;)

Disney's sole purpose (as is the sole purpose of any company) is to take our money. As much of it as possible. And have as much as possible left over after they pay the costs to get that money.

It's as simple as that. I'm not bashing them, it's what business is all about. That's why I treat the relationship for what it is, a business transaction. I give, I get.

I was glad to hear that Pete treats it the same way - he supports and defends the ticket price increases because that is what the market will bear and Disney's purpose as a company is to (remember?) take as much of our money as possible. But Pete also has a problem with the reciprocity of that business arrangement and feels like the "get" is becoming smaller than the "give". He is also concerned that the decision to put a merchandiser at the helm of Parks & Resorts does not bode well for the future of the theme parks from a guest perspective.

I agree with Pete.

I did not like it. It made a system that we liked more difficult. while it's nice to be able to choose some hard to get attractions in advance, we do not like the split of grouping. Old system you could get a FP for any combo of attractions, now they have certain attractions grouped and we just don't like it. As an insane planner I also don't like the added level of planning.

Maybe my observations are wrong but last week I didn't get the impression that there was a lack of of staffing as it seemed 20 CM's were walking the parade route putting up and taking down the rope barrier. There was some sort of spontaneous dance party parade on Main Street later in the day and there must have been 30 CM's walking and providing guidance and security for this smaller parade. It made me wonder what all these CM's are doing when the parades are not happening.
