Love Boat - a little OT

We cruised on the Love Boat in August 1998. We went around United Kingdom, one of our best cruises ever.

They had shown “Titanic” while the ship was docked in a port. However, they showed it again “by popular demand” on our last sea day before returning to Dover. Yes, my family watched it!

My first night on the Alaskan cruise I did on RCCL, we noticed that the music playing was (thankfully not "My Heart Will Go On") various instrumental themes from the Titanic soundtrack. HAHA!

Our very first cruise was a 15 night round trip to Hawaii on the Grand Princess, and that cruise line embraces that show like you would believe. on welcome videos they had Doc and Julie, you heard the theme song on the drop of a dime and they had several deserts named after it. Such fun.

Just this past weekend I was watching a few minutes of the Love Boat where Charro was a nanny for two children and they came on the boat to say goodbye to parent and didn't get off in time. Well we know that would never happen now days. Or ever. It's good "70's" tv fun to watch.
Yup. Guests used to be allowed on board before sailing on many cruise lines.

First cruise I took my wife on in 1983 was NCL's Norway. NCL's big draw in those days was big name entertainment on board. Folks you would see as guests on the Tonight Show, etc. Jack Jones, the guy who sings the Love Boat theme was one of the celebrity entertainers on that cruise, along with his father Allan.
The big name stars did their show one day of the cruise, and the rest of the week just hung out with the passengers.

Charo was a special guest entertainer on my DCL EBTA years ago (can't remember year until I see my own signature!). [2011!]

As broke newlyweds in the late 70s, we would order a pizza on Saturday nights and watch The Love Boat while dreaming of traveling the world. Well, lots of years and over 50 countries and 30+ cruises later, we've fulfilled a lot of our dreams including sailing on the original Pacific Princess with our daughter in 1999. It was their Northern European Capitals itinerary (London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Berlin, Stockholm and Oslo). A great trip, great ship and unforgettable memories!!!

Many thanks to The Love Boat and the Pacific Princess for inspiring a lifetime of travel! My husband and I still sing the Love Boat theme to each other as we board any cruise ship...it's always EXCITING AND NEW!
