Hello everyone.

My family is taking a very small two day vacation and visiting Louisville, KY, so that we can take DD to a Louisville Bats game and do some sightseeing and maybe visit a few little shops and museums.

I have seen on a website that there is a Korean War Memorial at McNeely Lake Park in Louisville. My dad who passed in 2008 was in the Korean War. My kids were very close to him and you don't see memorials for the Korean War very often. I thought it would be neat to make a visit there. Can anyone please tell me where this park is located in conjunction with downtown Louisville?

I'm not able to answer the question about the memorial, but make sure you visit the Louisville Slugger museum and, while you're there, stop by the 21C Museum/Hotel and check out the bathrooms in the lobby. Very cool!! :goodvibes

Check Google maps. Looks like it essentially is located near the downtown area.:)

McNeely Lake is not close to downtown. It's out off of 265, south of the city. It's a pretty little park. They hold a huge cross country race there every year that my kids go to.

I'd like to add that if you're looking for a great place to eat while in Louisville, check out Wicks Pizza! It's awesome and the location on Baxter Ave is fairly close to downtown. Disclaimer: I do not work
there, but do eat there regularly.

I went to Louisville for a day trip for the first time in August. My best friend goes to school there (Bellarmine University) and we went down before she left to study abroad. We only live 2 hours away so I don't know why I hadn't been before. Anyway, can't help with the memorial information but if you want a place to eat try Mark's Feed Store. It is DELICIOUS!

Yum, I second this recommendation.

To the OP, the park is on the south side of the city. From downtown at a non-rush hour time, I'd guess 20 minutes.

The lake is on the southside of Louisville, about a 20 min drive from downtown. I have been to the park, but I have not seen the memorial. There is a nice forest again about 30 min away called Bernheim with hiking trails. A nice place to visit and take kids. I second with the Wicks and Marks both have multiple locations in Louisville. Bardstown road would a place to check out if you are looking for some unique shops and restaurants. I don't know when you plan on visiting but through June 4th-July 10th weekends there is a Renaissance Festival about 45 min away in Eminence, KY. They have games, shops, and music all from the Renaissance times. It is quite fun to catch. There are many things to do in Louisville as well as many museums in and around. There a few malls and such too if that interests you. The zoo is a decent size and in my opinion one of the better ones in the area. They just remodeled the polar bear exhibit. There is really a lot to do in Louisville.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I am going to have to look up Mark's Feed Store and Wick's Pizza. We just might have to try them. We are planning on going to The Hard Rock Cafe for dinner, maybe we could try the others for lunch.

I will have to Google directions to the park. We would not stay their long. Just long enough to see the memorial and take a few pictures.

Thanks again. I appreciate everyone's suggestions.

If you really want a great, funky dining experience, go to Lynn's Paradise Cafe. It is one of the most famous restaurants in Louisville. If you go to their website: http://www.lynnsparadisecafe.com/index.html
you can see Lynn when she was featured making a Hot Brown on the Today show. The Paradise burger is great too. Check out their menu - it's fabulous, as is the decor!

I think any visit to Louisville should include a stop at Churchill Downs, home of course to the Kentucky Derby.

Even if you are not a horse racing fan, the Kentucky Derby museum is worth a visit:

And, of course, you can take a ride on the paddleboat The Belle of Louisville.
I think they are doing lunch and dinner cruises, and a variety of other excursions as well:

Have a great time!

I would also recommend Lynn's Paradise Cafe. It's very good and there's so much to look at while you're waiting for your food, you won't realize you're waiting...

There are a couple local pottery places that I always go to, also. Louisville Stoneware and Mary Hadley Pottery. I'm sure both have websites.

Don't forget to check out Graeter's ice cream shops in Louisville. Thanks to the Dis we stopped in and really enjoyed it. I was also going to recommend Lynn's Paradise Cafe.
