The dining plan isn't much of a deal at all. You're basically pre-paying for your food, and if you go to one of the cheaper character breakfasts with your voucher, then you're actually over-paying. I would never consider going to WDW without the dining plan, and I would never consider going to Disneyland with the dining plan.

I agree that the dining plan at DL isn't worth doing. From everything I've heard the dining at WDW is MUCH different (and better) then DL. What we do is pick where we want to eat at DL well in advance, and call and make priority seating. This time we did this for the Blue Bayou. Counter service and such we just decide on when there.

We've found it to be much cheaper to eat quite a bit of our meals outside the park anyway.

Yes the park will be decorated. No party though. DL and WDW are very different parks. I'm sure you'll love DL as long as you don't expect it to be too much like WDW!

i dont agree at all im paying like 185 or something for mine.

I suppose it's mostly a matter of personal preference. I'm not a big fan of breakfast at all, nor do I like to go to a lot of character meals. The DL dining plan seems to favor both those things. I tend to grab a quick snack for breakfast and then catch an early lunch in the parks. The Blue Bayou is gorgeous, and I love Three-Cheese Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans. Downtown Disney also has some nice restaurants and I sometimes like the break from the parks to sit down, relax, and enjoy a nice meal. For the things I enjoy, the DL dining plan wastes a lot of my money.

Where can you find a breakdown of how much it is, per person, for say, 5 days. Jade said 185 for 5 days...but is that total? Or per person?? And if it's total...how many people is it for?

its per person, and added up it works out, go to dl site and make a fool resvation then look at the dinning opption on the page click it and the dinning comes up

I have to agree with Pezalicious. I don't think that includes any meals in DTD does it? We like to do Rainforest cafe, it's an absolute must on our trips. My son is also 9 years old now, so all the Character meals is not something we'd be interested in (even when he was little, once was always enough for us on a trip, they can take up a lot of park time IMO). We are quick and small breakfast eaters as well. Either the free breakfasts at the hotel, or a little something grabbed quickly is what we like to do. More time for the parks.

To each their own certainly! I agree it's just personal preference. But for us it wouldn't be worth it.

I'm gonna have to agree that the DL dining plan isn't worth it. There are so many dining options outside of the park and in DTD. I know we spend way less on food than what we'd pay with the dining plan. Of coruse, we don't do a lot of character meals and that might make a difference.

& it's important to note that unlike WDW DTD is RIGHT NEXT DOOR to the front gate of DL & DCA.

A family can "eat well" at DLR, but you'll save $$ AND eat at more interesting places (with more flexibility) if you're NOT on the dining plan.

The food aspect of DLR is completely different than WDW.

hound :)

well with you all saying it isnt worth it i went and looked at things. ive figuerd out yes this dose work better for me. we me my fionce and my son all love charcters and have never been abel to have meals with them even tho every time i went when younger got told we would,.but never did. Im going way out on this one. Its my bday and were celbrating my sons late there too.

we are only eatting at two restrants besieds disney ones.
Rain forest cafe, and midevel times..(bday dinner) and the fantasmic dessert buffet on balconey.

I did look tho and maybe in wdw it will not work for me.. it dosent include any meals with charcters and they are not that good of dinners in the plan. next year when i go wdw i will pay cash.. but this year it dose work for the meal plan.

It matters to you and your indival needs for that vacation. I do thank you all for the coments it did make me do math and think alittel more.
I wouldnt have wanted to lose money

Jade,

You might want to look more in depth into the WDW dining plan. It's a fantastic value and will probably save you lots of money.. that is, if you like sit down meals. I think you can get character meals there, too, but you may have to trade in 2 sit-down meals for 1 character meal. I'm pretty sure you can trade in 2 sit down meals for the dinner shows, as well. All in all, it's a wonderful deal. I'm in California, so I go to Disneyland the most, but I've been to WDW 3 times and those sit down meals sure add up. The dining plan makes it so I don't cringe over the money towards the end of my trip. :)

I also enjoy the WDW dining plan (have done it twice). I haven't done their free dining (but it sounds like a great deal). IMO, the WDW dining plan takes some planning....but if you don't plan, you're not going to eat at alot of places you might want to (with or without the DP), because they are all booked up. (So you might as well plan.)

Also, we ate at alot of places that me might not have....if we hadn't had the WDW DP - which was kind of cool. We also used it for character meals such as Donalds Breakfast & Lilo & Stich (& i believe the only "2 credit" meal was the Cindy princess meal).

BUT, DLR doesn't work the same way, & you don't have to plan meals out months in advance at DLR. I recommend the DDP for WDW, but not for DLR.

:)

Oh yeah, I'm a total planner, especially when it comes to WDW, since it's so much harder for me to get to. I can play a DL trip by ear, since I've been there so many times and have the place memorized, but WDW is completely different. I also like checking out some of the resorts, so that adds a ton of restaurants for me to choose from. I know I get my money's worth with the WDW dining plan, and I get a lot of enjoyment looking at all the menus online, making reservations, and figuring out my top picks. My main problem is there are too many restaurants I want to go to when I'm there, and not enough money (even with the dining plan) or a big enough stomach!

All reports I have read on the net (and I've been on various DLR discussion boards for years and years) have said that the dining plan at DLR iis NOT worth it. We would never waste our money on it and have found much better alternatives to saving money when dining at and around DLR.

I also would say pass on the dining plan at DL.
I considered it for our trip last year and my AAA travel agent advised against it.
She said it was just paying in advance for your food, but really no monetary value.

Right, see if it was money off the meals I could totally see it. I haven't been to WDW yet, but from what I understand they have HUGE options when it comes to dining beyond what DL has. From the sounds of it, it also sounds like it may be harder to just go and eat offsite right? Like it wouldn't be all that easy like it is at DL to just go find a Mimi's or McDonalds real quick? If that's the case I can certainly see where a dining plan at WDW is almost a must. Especially if it saves you money too.
