In my 43 years of life, there has been NO show that has affected me like Lost has. This is quite simply the BEST show I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

I loved the ending and hope hope hope that the writers decide it's worth it to tell more of the story with another show. There's so much more to learn about what happened and so much more they could add to the ending.

Do you think they survived the crash... or was it just their souls on the island???
I was just glad to see all the couples back together. I don't much care how or why. LOL.

They all survived. Christian talked about it in the finale. He said everything that happened to Jack was real, all the people were real, and then he said "Everyone dies sometime kiddo, some before you, some long after you.." and then later he says "The most important part of your life was the time you spent with these people, that's why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone, Jack. You needed all of them and they needed you."

If they didn't survive the crash, then how would the most important part of his life be the time he spent with them? They survived the crash, and everything that happened.. happened. :thumbsup2

And what was up with the first season and all the dharma interactive things if dharma really didn't mean that much in the whole scheme of things?

I think Dharma did matter. I think Jacob was a very reluctant protector of the Island who really only cared about finding a replacement and he'd been dragging people to the island then entire time, and smokey had been corrupting them and having them kill each other the entire time. Dharma was important because they showed that the battle between good and evil had been going on continually long before the plane crash. Had they just shown the more ancient inhabitants it wouldn't have seemed so constant. The combo of the Egyptian artifacts and the recent past remnants worked well to show it never even took a break. I would have liked more about Dharma and mainly the mass killing, but I think the answer about what happened there came indirectly in Across the Sea where they explained the backstory of Jacob. The camp in that episode got very close to the light and Jacob's mom killed them all. The Dharma people were getting really close to the light in the mine; close enough to see the wheel the original camp built. I think Jacob used the others to kill them all to protect the light; just like the original camp that got close.

I think the story is interesting because for whatever reason these castaways were able to break the cycle and finally bring the battle to an end after thousands of years. Without Dharma or that backstory it wouldn't have been so interesting. If Jack and crew were the only candidates and Jacob managed to get a replacement first try it just wouldn't have been the same.

The end itself....ummm...no.....I am a true believer in the next life but it just did not click with me. And WTH was Sayid doing with Shannon and not his true love? That one made NO sense at all! Where were Michael and Walt? just a few niggly piggly things like that that really bothered me.....

Michael is stuck on the island. They addressed that a few episodes ago. All the whispers heard on the island are the people who are trapped there & can't leave.

Walt.. I imagine he'd "cross over" or whatever with his mom and stepdad. Those were the most important people in his life.

And, lastly, I don't think Nadya was Sayid's true love. I think it was Shannon - they brought out the best in each other. Just my opinion though, of course. :goodvibes

Wonderful summary! I might have to steal it...you explained so much better than I could! :thumbsup2

I loved it. But honestly, I had to go into the finale knowing that not everything would be answered except the character stories. If I was expecting to know everything it would have been a complete disappointment. Loving these characters made the finale perfect for me.

I agree completely. I felt I set my expectations too high I would have been completely disappointed. (I did that with Sopranos:sad2: ) Dh said that the dvd that comes out in August is supposed to have about 20 minutes of additional footage that may answer some questions.
I would be interested in seeing the story of Hurley and Ben when they were #1 and #2.
Also, I thought it was interesting when "Not Locke" said he was surprised Jack was the candidate. I always thought Hurley was meant to do it. Also, if you go by his history he had the most links to the island with the numbers etc.. It was hilrarious watching Ben's face when Jack told Hurley he was next in line. I was thinking to myself, is this man gonna go off the deep end or what?:rotfl2:

Explain to me about Micheal being "stuck" on the island please. I must have missed that. Thanks!

During the episode that focused on Richard's role on the Island, the whisperes were heard again and Hugo said he thought he knew what they were. He walked into the jungle and there was Michael. Micheal said that he was still stuck on the Island because he had to atone for what he had done and asked Hugo to tell Libby he was sorry if he could.

Sure! Michael talked to Hurley in the "Everybody Loves Hugo" episode while they were in the jungle. Here's how the conversation went, it breaks it down pretty well:

Hugo: You're stuck on the island, aren't you?
Michael: (nods yes) Because of what I did
H: And there are others out here like you, aren't there? That's what the whispers are?
M: Yeah, we're the ones who can't move on.
H: Do you know where Locke is?
M: (points to the other island) There.
H: Thanks. Is there anything I can do, to help you?
M: Don't get yourself killed.
H: Okay.
M: And Hurley, if you ever do see Libby again, tell her I'm very sorry.
H: I'll be sure and do that, dude.

The way I interpret it is pretty simple - there could be a 'deeper' meaning behind it, but I think that because of what Michael did on the island (killed Ana Lucia and Libby), he became trapped there when he died. He's not able to move on like the rest of the Losties did in the finale.

The ending becomes more beautiful when you watch it knowing that the flash sideways was created by the characters as a way to find each other again, to remember what they shared and to move on together. Not only did they each remember their lives with the other characters, they also understood where they were in the sideways world and what that meant and it brought them immense peace. Their moods and demeanors changed once they understood. I loved the looks Hurley gave Charlie when he picked him up for the concert. He remembered his love for Charlie and it filled him with joy even though Charlie wasn't quite there yet. Same with Sun and Jin in the hospital room with Sawyer. I thought the endng was just right, on and off island.

I loved it, and already watched it again today. I can't wait until 8/24 for the DVD, especially since I heard it'll be even longer.

OMG yes! but shouldn't he have been able to move on from there? Oh gosh....it makes me sick to think that his sins were worse than say the sins of Locke..... Locke made it, why not Michael..... wow.....

Thank you for the input! :goodvibes LOST will not truly be over for us "geeks" for a while! lol

Really? I'm trying to think of any bad things that Locke did on the island, and I'm not coming up with much. Most of the bad things that Locke did were actually the Man in Black. I could be forgetting something though - my brain is fried after that finale.

I agree, I think the real Locke, the one Ben killed in season 5, is the one that was in the flash-sideways. Flocke / MIB, whatever you want to call him, was not the Locke we saw in the flash-sideways.

I know one of my friend's always thinks Locke and Flocke are the same person, and I don't think that way at all. Locke died, and MIB used his body, but Locke was dead.

I agree completely. The only bad thing I can think of that Locke did was when he misled Jack about the way Boone was injured. That wasn't nearly as bad as the things most of the Losties did. All the really horrible things we saw Locke do were really done by the Man In Black while he looked like Locke.

I watched the first few episodes of Lost. Maybe a few more in between. Then tried to watch part of the finale last night. I didn't understand one thing at all. :rotfl:

Is there a simple way to sum up what Lost was about? Like the Newhart show was revealed to be all a dream in its finale. :thumbsup2 Was there a concept to Lost? Time travel?

If its too complicated, just tell me "its complicated". :rotfl:

You took the words outta my mouth. I'm quite surprised about how many people didn't get it.

Me neither...I feel like I spent half of my day explaining to people that they weren't dead the whole time, which seemed plainly obvious in how Christian explained it to Jack.

I thought it was brilliant. I've been a fan of the show since the very first episode, and I thought it was the perfect ending.

I didn't expect a laundry list of answers as to why things happened the way they did on the island, nor did I want the final show to be about that.

The show was about the characters, not the island. That's what the title referred. All of these characters were broken and spiritually lost, and in their time on the island they found redemption and in the end found each other again. It was really a beautiful ending.
