LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

Or maybe the hostiles were Danielle's team?
That works with some people's theory that Danielle is actually an ex-Other. I think that's a definite possibility.

Also, I was wondering what happened to Annie, the little girl. I was expecting Ben to find her when he went back to the camp and all the Dharma people were dead, but since they didn't actually show her dead, I don't know if it's safe to assume she is.

Maybe she's Rousseau, and Ben actually is Alex's father?

Maybe someone can help me understand something I didn't get last night. Ben was talking to Jacob last night and it seemed they were having a conversation. Why, then, didn't Ben hear what Jacob said to Locke ?
:confused3 Maybe it's more telepathic and only the person Jacob wants to hear him, can hear him? :confused3

Okay, is it just me or does that look a little like Locke. It looks like his profile.
I wasn't so sure at first, but just remembered before they went into the shack, Ben told Locke to put away his flashlight and said something about Jacob, "like you", doesn't like technology. Could that have been a hint? :confused3

Oh, I forgot about that! I had said last week that I thought Locke was Jacob, or at least Ben thought he was. After last night, I'm not so sure... there were obvious things that blew that theory, but little things that supported it, too.

We had such a bad night last night. We went out to eat with my Lost-watching friend(which was great), and so taped Lost. We got home about halfway and it was SO hard not to watch it, but my friend persuaded me to wait 30 minutes and then watch it from the beginning. Agonizing torture... then we sit down to watch it, to discover that we somehow taped it in SPANISH!!! So mad. So I just now got to watch it on abc.com (thank you abc!) and I got to say "Whoa!" What a good episode! Too bad I had to wait all night for it!

My thoughts:

1.) I'm not sure if Jacob is the smoke monster, but I do believe the "gunpowder" stuff was the smoke monster. Hasn't it been described before as a security system? Maybe its Jacob's security system. It looks like he never moved from his chair during the "attack" in the cabin, so I'm assuming he has some kind of paranormal type powers (you know, besides being invisible).

2.) I was lucky enough to stop (after a couple of tries) the internet feed and see Jacob. He looks a lot like Locke from the dark profile. I'm kind of torn on whether it is him or not. For one, Ben can see Jacob, so wouldn't he have known that it was Locke? But maybe he does, that is why they think Locke is special? But then why shoot him out of jealousy that he heard Jacob? Unless Jacob told him to do it once Locke left the cabin.

3.) To Carrie's theory - I don't think its him - the voice sounds different and they have a different nose, right? He supposedly disappeared from 2002-2006 (and the show is still in 2004), but he was also supposedly just in Norway. Tough call.

4.) There is no way that Michael aged. I don't think it is a call of bad make-up. Otherwise, like mentioned before, he would have been a kid when Ben first met him. Maybe there is a fountain of youth somewhere on the island? Or maybe they are ghosts?

5.) I don't think that Ben killed his friend, or let her die. It seems like they would have showed her when he returned to the village (he is, after all, still carrying around the dolls she made). I'm not saying she's not dead, but it seems like they left it open for a reason - future storyline! Samantha Mathis's character too - they didn't show her as being one of the dead, and, although not a movie star, she seems to have more clout than to just show up on one episode as a teacher.

They did a good job aging Ben's dad/Roger Workman, so I'm sure they could have aged the other guy if they had any intention of doing so. I'm not sure it's a makeup mistake either.

Oh, and at the end Ben said he was "one of the people who was smart enough" to make sure he didn't end up in that ditch. That implies that some of the other Dharma people survived.

I've been a lurker on this thread but I just had to speak up because on my tv we did not see Jacob. We could not see him at all! It was like it was a ghost .
odd

Also I think the soil Locke felt, smelt was volcanic ash, if you rem earlier in the episode (in the classroom with little Ben) they mentioned there was a volcano on the island.

Does it not bother anyone else that Richard hasn't seemed to age at all? And wasn't he in the episode where Juliet was recruited, off the island?

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!! I didn't see him at all last night, and had no clue anyone was there until I came here............going to check it out online tonight to see if I can see it better.

I'm new to reading this post but I wanted to ask a question....

Is there any speculation on the year that the Dharma people were killed? How does this play into Desmond arriving on the island? Was the man who Desmond took over for in the hatch a real Dharma employee or a hostile posing as Dharma?

I didn't see him the first time, either. It was such a quick glimpse, no way could I have seen him without being told exactly when and what to look for. :rotfl:

Anyone else think the woman in the red convertible who stopped to help Ben's parents looked like Claire? I didn't get a very good look at her, either, though. :confused3

I was wondering the same things. :confused3

It wasn't Claire. It was the same lady who played the teacher of Ben's science class.

Maybe someone can help me understand something I didn't get last night. Ben was talking to Jacob last night and it seemed they were having a conversation. Why, then, didn't Ben hear what Jacob said to Locke ?

Presumably for the same reason that Locke could hear Jacob speak to him, but not when he was speaking to Ben. He must have some sort of control over who hears him at any given time.

and here's the link to another interesting photo of Jacob: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b297/Michele919/profile2.jpg

Last night on one of the Lost boards I was lurking at they kept posting that profile and all I could think was Tommy Chong :rotfl:

I think the facial features are too different. Jacob has sort of a bump in his nose, Locke's is more rounded (not sure how to explain that one, LOL) where that bump is in Jacob's. Locke's lips are much thinner and his chin is a little more pronounced.

See this is why I tell DH not to delete the episode when we're done. He thinks I'm crazy. We totally missed that, but will check back tomorrow. When was it? While everything was moving in the room? Or before when Ben was talking to the chair.

DH & I missed it too.
