LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

It does kind of look like Locke. The eyebrow and the forehead are totally him, but it's hard to compare the nose because of shadows.
When they were walking up to the cabin to see Jacob, Lock stopped to look at the soil, he even smelled it. It looked like gunpowder to me.
I was thinking it was volcanic ash. But it was weird because it was kind of in a line.

I've been a lurker on this thread but I just had to speak up because on my tv we did not see Jacob. We could not see him at all! It was like it was a ghost .
odd

Also I think the soil Locke felt, smelt was volcanic ash, if you rem earlier in the episode (in the classroom with little Ben) they mentioned there was a volcano on the island.

Does it not bother anyone else that Richard hasn't seemed to age at all? And wasn't he in the episode where Juliet was recruited, off the island?

Michael Emerson actually won an Emmy for a guest appearance in The Practice!
Who did he play on The Practice? That's sounding vaguely familiar now. Something about a serial killer, but no one thought it was him? Am I remembering correctly?

I thought gunpowder, but it was light 'ashy' colored and I thought gunpowder was darker (like I'd know :confused3 )

It was really hard to see him. I didn't see anything last night and I went back this morning and looked again and I didn't see it. It wasn't until after I saw the picture posted here that I was able to see it. It was right after Ben gets pushed back from the chair, and the camera pans back to the right across the room. You'll see just a flash of him sitting in the chair.

Either they're doing a bad job of aging him or he's not supposed to be aging. And yes, he was there when Juliet was recruited.

OK so if the hostiles killed all of the dharma people that means that "they" recruited Juliet and are still receiving supplies from Dharma. Wouldn't the Dharma people just cut them off if they knew all of their employees were dead? :confused3

They must not know then. Remember, Richard was in the States, acting like a Dharma official. So either he's impersonating someone or maybe he does actually work for Dharma. Maybe there are two parts to Dharma: the cover-up project (which we see) and an "underground" project. My guess is we'll find out in 3 years. :rotfl:

Also, I couldn't figure out if Richard was supposed to age or not. I think they meant to make him look younger but just did a bad job of it--like they did a bad job of making Ben look younger.
I'm thinking Richard's got to be not aging. In current time, he looks younger than Ben, or at least not older. If he was aging normally, he'd have had to be a kid in the flashback when kid Ben first meets him.

It might be gunpowder especially since the episode before we saw Danielle getting dynamite.

Just have a moment to check in. . . but as for Jacob, there's a new theory out there. I don't want to post the pic of the person in case it's spoilery (it's from The Lost Experience last summer) but I'll post a link so those of you who want to judge for yourselves.

If you don't want to know, DO NOT hover your pointer over the link since the name is in the URL

Is this Jacob?

I definitely see the resemblance - just longer hair, a bit scruffier. . .

Can you post this on the spoiler thread? I followed the link and want to post something about it, but it's from a spoiler site and I don't want to put it here.

Well, Locke shaves his head. He is balding, but if he wanted to let his hair grow out, I imagine that it would kinda look like Jacob's hair. I think Locke as Jacob is feeding into everyone's theory about time travel. Either that of Jacob is Locke's "Bad Twin".

Interesting... as in the Bible, Jacob had a twin! (Esau). One was good and one was bad (I can never remember which was which - I think Jacob was the "good" twin).

There were also some very overt references to the Wizard of Oz this time too... interesting!

I can confirm you will get this answer by seasons end! That is all I am going to say as I Don't want to spoil anything.(I have some in's)
Much will be answered in the 2 hour season finale.

I think Jacob is the Smoke Monster.

Maybe someone can help me understand something I didn't get last night. Ben was talking to Jacob last night and it seemed they were having a conversation. Why, then, didn't Ben hear what Jacob said to Locke ?

Okay...a couple of things...

1. Does anyone else think that the "hostiles" were the passengers from the Black Rock? It would explain Mikhail's eyepatch and their scruffy clothes if they were all pirates.

2. I thought that Jacob looked a lot like Roger.

3. I thnk that Ben's mother was the smoke monster. I also think the smoke monster has taken the form of Jack's dad, Kate's horse, Dave, Eko's brother and others. It seems to be able to read your thoughts and take the form of something you really want to see. (Jack wanted to make amends with his dad, Hurley wanted to believe he imagined the island and seeing Dave would explain that, etc.)

But I thought the ship looked really old, like from the 1800s. Unless of course they don't age on the island. Or maybe the hostiles were Danielle's team?

My guess is that they aren't aging. Richard certainly doesn't look like he has aged at all and Ben doesn't seem to have aged since the day he killed his father.

In the scene where Ben first encounters Richard, Richard's clothes look very old-fashioned. They definitely could be the clothes of a sailor or a pirate.

I actually felt a little bad for Ben. You can kind of understand why he is the way he is. Can you imagine having your father blame you for your mother's death your whole life?

Not to mention that his father is UNCLE RICO! That would be enough to screw anyone up... ;)
