LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

Did the book say Catch-22 or was it in a different language? I somehow remember the latter and if so, what language was it?

It was in Portuguese. Don't forget, the 2 men in the listening station were speaking Portuguese.

Supposedly Portuguese, which is why it is assumed that she is part of the search team Penny hired to find Desmond.

Maybe the Catch-22 was that no matter what Desmond did, someone was going to die?

Catch 22 - He could have Penny but Charlie would have to die -or - He could save Charlie but then not have Penny.....

I just watched the episode and now I need to find the spoilers thread

See the discussion on the previous page; it is about how this doesn't make sense.

As far as I could tell there was no actual catch-22 situation in the episode. I guess it is just due to the book being shown.

I don't understand how him saving Charlie affected him having Penny or not? :confused3

I loved this weeks show. I'm going to have to watch it again. I see I missed so much detail.

I thought the Catch-22 was only in Desmond's mind. He thought that when he kept saving Charlie, he was really keeping them on the island, so if he would let him die, then help would come (in the form of Penny). There was never really a Catch-22, but it was how Desmond was seeing it.

I wonder if the allusion to Catch 22 wasn't so much about the meaning of the phrase, but more about the major themes of the book itself. :confused3

Where is everyone?!?! The show ended 20 minutes ago!!! This is just so crazy!

I think we must all be in shock. Its like one jawdropper after another.

I LOVE this show. This is how twists are supposed to be done. Total surprises, but when you think back there are lots of clues.

My question - why is the island so misogynistic? Men can recover from paralysis and brain hemorrages? Women die just for being preggers?

I loved the expression on Hurley's face when the woman said the airplane was found with no survivors. And "Patch" guess the fence just knocked him silly?:confused3

How come after every episode lately all I can do is yell "OMG, OMG, OMG!!!"
Excellent!!
Just one question/hole in plot. If the gal was speaking all these languages, why was no one, especially Hurly, trying to ask her questions? Especially after the "surgery"? Hurly's just sitting there playing with the phone. Wake her up!! Talk to her!! YOu know she speaks spanish, you speak spanish, wake the woman up!! I'm done.... :rolleyes1

My friends and I were thinking Sun was pretty stupid for just letting Juliet go back in to "cover their tracks." That was obviously shady.

I really think Juliet isn't completely working for Ben, but she's not working against him either. I think she honestly just wants to get off the island, and is just acting in her own best interest and kind of playing both sides so she has a better chance of leaving.

This kind of bring back that theory that the losties are already dead which so many viewers have laughed at. Have the podcasts ever said anything about that?

Sun doesn't have all the reasons to not trust Juliette that we have. And it had to happen.

It's definitely also clear now that Juliette isn't happy about what she has to do for Ben. She's watching out for herself, but I think she'll help the losties as much as she can.

Anyone else wondering if Kate's going to end up knocked up too?

They really should do a public service annoucement for all of the female survivors to never, ever have sex--especially with all of the extra sperm all of the men on the island have :scared1:

I got the feeling that possibly Sun went in behind Juliet to check on her. Just the look in Sun's eyes when she watched her go back in, looked like she didn't completely trust that she was going back.

Hasn't that theory been completely denied by the writers? :confused3
