LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

I'm frustrated, disgruntled, questioning why I'm staying up late to watch this show. I feel like the producers are just stringing us along and once we DO find out all the answers, it'll be a big let down.

So many people share your opinion, but I for one have loved the last two episodes. I am sick of the Others and that island, but not so much that I don't care.

As for getting more info on the Losties the preview for next week showed Kate an Sawyer asking their Other all kinds of questions. I can't believe they are going to answer three big things next week! I've always wanted to know about Jack's tattoos, so I'm excited for that.

What questions do you want answered? I feel like most of the ones I care about will be answered next season, because they CAN'T answer them without giving the whole show away (like the monster, tho I think we know a lot more about it now and it's psychic qualities).

I also wonder if I am more content, because I have seen the Dharma "leak" video that the show put out on the web last year. It answered A LOT of my questions and fears about where the show was going.

Great catch on the WoO easter egg! I loved the poster in Pen's dad's office. It was great. I should go look for a screen shot of it.

I thought during the episode that THIS is why Penny knew to look for him on an unplotable island (remember the finale last year). i thought for sure Desmod was going to tell her what was going on and then when he disappears she would know where to look...but nope! lol

I really LOVED  last nights episode, but I love weird time thingys.

I'm lost now, in every sense of the word. Completely lost.

I love the show, but now I watch it with my jaw hanging down in my lap and my eyebrows all wrinkled up. DS pointed that out to me last night

"What's wrong with your face mom?"

"I'm watching Lost."

As for what happened, it seemed like he was in a loop of sorts, didn't it? I wonder if it could happen again somehow?
:)

I read an interview in Entertainment weekly with the producers last week and they said that the episode would, "do something with a flashback with Desmond that we've never done before and won't do again." So I doubt it will happen again, but I loved it!

The article had several other interesting things.

I really think all of the people who are unhappy with the show need to do some internet and print reading. The show has released so many hints and clues in these ways that really have kept me interested and excited in the show.

My problem is that I just don't have that much time to invest in a TV show. Heros is doing the same thing with a back story on the internet. What ever to sitting down to watch TV between 8:00 and 11:00 and getting all you entertainment in those three hours?

I don't think they will kill Charlie (and hoping not too) just because they told us. What kind of surprise would that be?

I loved the "leaked" video, although now I'm dying for them to reveal the date the Valenzetti equation came up with. Maybe it was (3 ?) years ago and pushing the button made time go backwards every 108 minutes so that they can continue to try and "save the world"?

I agree! Since when is watching tv supposed to be that much work? I want to be entertained. Sure, make me think a little, but don't give me MORE work to do just to know what's going on with a tv show!

And what about the people out there who don't have internet access? I have an older cousin who loves Lost, but doesn't know the first thing about computers. He only knows what little I've been able to find out and what he reads in TV Guide.

The reason I love Lost is because it works on many different levels, like a good piece of literature. If you just want to be entertained, it is a survival story with a little mystery. If you want more, there is backstory, hints, easter eggs, connections, and subplots. It wouldn't work on most shows, but I walk away from every episode with a sense of respect for the creators who are really creating a complete universe around their show.

I remember reading an interview with Damon and Carlton that the name was taken from Wizard of Oz and it's somehow significant to the story. This new Wizard reference gives us something else to ponder.

I had posted this on the other Lost Spoiler thread. It's not so much a spoiler as our theory. If you recall the date of the 1st season was around September 2004. Everyone keeps saying that they've been on the island 3 years (Juliet and Desmond). DH and I came up with a theory that maybe they were stranded (especially Juliet) there due to the Sept. 11th attacks (around 3 years, 2 months, etc like Juliet has specified especially if you figure the timeline of when Juliet's episode aired) or maybe there was a nuclear bomb or something ala Heroes. :confused3 Just throwing that out there since I'm not sure this aspect has been discussed!

I thought for sure last night Kate and Sawyer would get back and we'd get more info on the Losties, but no such luck.

I think last night's episode went back a few days in time though - so Kate and Sawyer would still be in the cages. I think they showed us what amounted to a few days on the other island and now they're showing us what was happening at the same time on "our" island. I don't think we'll see Kate and Sawyer for a couple episodes.

I thought this and last weeks episode lived up to what they promised. I think the problem is that a lot of people want direct answers. They want the characters to come out and say "this is this and that is that" but that's now how this show is written. A LOT of answers are implied. It's all very subtle. I don't think the show would be as interesting if Desmond looked at Charlie and said, "well the failsafe sent me into a time warp where I relived my life. . ." I know they lose a lot of viewers who get frustrated, but they really get people invested in the storyline by giving them just enough information to extrapolate answers on their own.

But I don't want to do that. I shouldn't have to spend my time trying to find answers OUTSIDE of the actual TV show. If I wanted that kind of "real life" time consuming entertainment experience, I'd play D&D or World of Warcraft or something.

I think it's really creative of them to do all this stuff outside the 22 hours a year they put on TV. While the things they put out there (on websites for various companies on the show, leaked video, etc) can be helpful in analyzing the show, they're mostly totally new and separate stories - like the history of Dharma, corporate info about Hanso, etc. They are things you don't need to enjoy the show, but if you DO decide to spend time on them open up this whole other side to the story.

Oh man. I just read that last nights episode had the lowest ratings ever for a new episode of Lost. The slide has begun. I have a difficult time with the new time slot. I don't think it works. Especially since they don't have a strong lead in. If they were going to move the show they should have put it on at 8pm, not 10pm. I wish they had never moved the show at all. I know they are afraid of the strong ratings of American Idol, but wasn't American Idol on last year at 9pm?

So, anyway, about last nights episode. Did Desmond become clairvoyant due to the hatch explosion or was he already clairvoyant?

I just read that too, on Yahoo news. Its says it went from the peak of 20 million, to last weeks 14.5 million to Wednesday's 12.8 (still pretty good, IMHO)

I think its the new time, making us wait 3 months and not answering enough questions. But I still love it. :goodvibes

I agree. Plus there's so much out there. If there was just one sight, maybe I could follow it. I tried this when the show first came out. One sight literally had bits of info hidden on the page. Sorry, that's too much work. If I have to put forth extra-cirricular effort for the show to work for me, I'm going to stop watching it.

For me, part of the reason I love Lost so much are the easter eggs, finding out things on the web, theories.... different strokes i guess.

I agree Ash.

IMO - This is part of the evolution of Television. I like that I can watch the show - for what it is - but if I do want more information or want to become more invested in the details of the show etc I can.

I saw that about the ratings too. I am guessing that ratings for Valentine's Day have to be taken with a grain of salt. Lots of us who are Lost fans were otherwise occupied. :dance3: Also, I think Lost continues to lead in the treasured younger demo, so that's a plus for it. Also Lost DVD sales are much higher than other TV shows. Bottom line: It remains a cash cow for ABC.

Never thought of that. Plus with that big storm that rolled through, I wonder how many homes were without power Wednesday? I know a few areas around here had downed power lines due to the weight of the snow and ice. Might have a very small effect as well.

I think part of the problem is that people sort of form routines. After that 3 month break, most routines are shot, LOL. Even I almost forgot til a couple hours before the show and I'm usually counting down! LOL! I wonder how many regular viewers just haven't gotten used to the show being back on?

Yea!! Somebody else shares my time warp theory!

:thumbsup2

I was wondering about the end of last season when the guys call Penny. How does that all fit into the present. I figured she is looking for Desmond. Did she find out about the island somehow?

She must have. I think her father may be involved in Desmond ending up there and she found out about it.
