LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

Not necessarily. The family writes the obituary and placing it in a newspaper is voluntary.

I do not think this was the obituary page. I think this was regular news . A survivor of a plane crashed thought to have perished & then were found would be weekend news.( weekends are slow for news)

The Funeral Home puts obits into the paper here - they ask the family for details to include but they write it and submit to the paper....

2 questions I have are

1. Was that Charlies band jack was listening 2 in his jeep?

2. Is anyone else shocked he told Kate he loved her?

I swore after last weeks preview he wasnt gonna tell Kate

I think Jack was listening to Nirvana.

OK, maybe I'm going about this way too logically, but I have to wonder...

Why didn't Ben try explaining all the wierdness to Jack when it reached the critical point (when the phone call going through was imminent)? Even if he didn't expect to be believed, if it was SO important that Jack not make the call, why didn't he at least try the truth (as he believes it to be)?

He tried to stop him by pretending to kill the three, and then let himself get beat up instead of admitting that they were still alive instead of trying a new tactic.

I'm just not getting something here.

It bothered me that Locke couldn't give Jack a good reason for not making the call too. Is there something so special about knowing some information that they can't even tell anyone?

Ben didn't pretend to kill the three. He gave an order, but it wasn't followed. As far as he knew, the three were dead.

Well, another mystery for me is if Naomi was not from Penny's boat, why did Naomi have Desmond's picture? And, why hasn't Desmond questioned Naomi more about this. However, it could be that Dharma knew that Desmond was pushing the button, and wants to talk to him about what happened. Maybe Dharma was looking for one of their own, even if Desmond didn't know he was one of theirs. Or, maybe Penny's family is associated with Dharma too...who knows??!!

We know for a fact that penny's dad runs Windsmore industries which is in fact connected to Dharma!

I'm sure daddy Windsmore knows penny is spending a TON of his cash to try to locate Desmond and he is not happy about it. My guess is that he sent Naomiand a Dharma group to take back the island and kill desmond in the process.

As for the question that someon posted abotu how did penny contact the island. At the end of last season her " people" located the island's general area...it would not be hard to broadcast to a spot and see if anyone picks it up.

No, from the exchange between Tom and the other guy, it seems Ben ordered them not to be killed. Tom was yelling they should of just killed them, and the other guy said they were following orders.

John can't admit that he wants to stay for purely selfish reasons. He doesn't want to leave because he's afraid he'll go back to his old life. I think Ben has convinced himself that he's in charge of every little thing on that island. He desperately wants to leave, but can't--at least until he finds someone to take his place. So, he forces people to stay so he won't be alone.

He sees Locke as his replacement. As soon as Locke is ready to take over--when he's a nutty as a fruitcake and convinced of everything Ben tells him--then Ben can leave.

maybe he finds out eventually and that is what is eating away at him in the future.....that he did not listen to both Ben and Locke about making that phone call.

It's all about faith. Locke has made comments in the past along the lines that it's (the island) not something that can be explained, it's something that you believe in. Jack needs to be converted or he will end up the ruined man we saw last night. The irony is that Jack is more "Lost" off of the island than on it but he is too stubborn to see it. Ben tried to tell him this by asking what it was he was in such a hurry to get back to. But of course Jack is not going to listen to anything Ben has to say.

Good point.

By the way, I think that Charlie is as dead as Locke was. I just can't believe they would kill off such a great character. :sad2:

No they said they should have killed them for killing thier people but where following orders....that we did not hear.

I am watching again with DD20 who knows nothing yet. I'll check again.

I think so, too! I kept asking DH why he doesn't just swim through the window?

2 questions I have are

It was a Nirvana song

So why was Jack addicted to oxycodin? If that was his third refill, then it wasn't from any injuries he received rescuing the mom and kid from the accident (didn't look like he was injured enough anyway). How long would refills last - like a month or so each? He had a legitimate prescription the first time, so I'm assuming some sort of accident? It's a pain medication right?

But did you see the way he was eating those pills up. He could go through three refills pretty quickly.

Another thing with Danielle, she never did explain what she meant by "they were infected" when she talks about killing her husband and crew. I wonder if they'll ever address this:confused3

I heard they would be doing a flashback episode for Danielle. So hopefully some of these questions will be answered. I was hoping they would do it this season, but it looks like we will be waiting a long time to see that.

That's true. Maybe Charlie will end up doing that. Desmond probably had the flash that Charlie was in there with all of the water, but I wonder if he actually "sees" him die. Although, I do think he is dead, like I said before how many times can Demond save him.:confused3

Maybe, but I still believe that there is something more concrete. There is too much fear in Ben of people leaving the island for me to believe that there isn't more than just "you have to believe in" the island. I do think that is part of it, but I still think there is something that Ben, at least, could try to explain to Jack (for Locke, it may still be more of the "believe in" thing). If nothing else he certainly knows a lot of the history of Dharma, which has to be an integral part of the mystery of the island.

I don't think for a minute that Jack would believe anything Ben said, but like I said before, I just don't see why Ben wouldn't at least try that tactic as a last-ditch effort.

Does anyone remember Danielle
Saying when she made the recording 16 years ago.
THE OTHERS ARE DEAD

did she mean the people she was with died
or
The Others as they are called

Are really dead people ?

My take on this - is we (the audience) were led to believe (in Season 1 one) Danielle was referring to her own people, but now I think she is referring to all the Dharma people that Ben helped kill with that poisonous gas. Now what I want to know - is Danielle part of Dharma or some other group?? Or was Danielle originally with Ben and managed to get away from the group and has been surviving on her own all this time??

Also, I think that Naomi is part of or connected to Dharma and they have been searching for the island ever since Ben and the Others killed all the Dharma people. Dharma wants to get the island back and that is what Ben is fighting to keep. The Others (Ben's group) have some sort of agenda that we don't know about but if you believe Ben, his group is the good guys, so that would mean Dharma is the bad guys. Several times the idea has crossed my mind that the island is some sort of "fountain of youth" so whoever controls it would have lots of power.

Anyway, loved the show. I know Dom, who plays Charlie is pretty much saying that this is the end for Charlie, but I hope it isn't true and they are just trying to keep us in suspense and we will all be surprised when we see Charlie survive. We haven't actually seen Charlie die. The last we saw, he was just floating in the water running out of air in his lungs. With Boone and Shannon we saw them completely die, why not with Charlie?

Hurley is my hero. That was great. I felt so bad for Hurley, but he got the last laugh.

I think it was John also. The funeral director asked Jack if he was friend or family and Jack replied "neither". I don't think Kate would of had the reaction to Jack saying he thought she may be there if it had been Sawyer. Jack would not of cried over Ben's death.

When I replayed this part via the TIVO I could have sworn that he said EITHER. My cousin was the one who told me to double check that part and she seemed right but who knows....

Back to reading more. You guys are great!

Also could Danielle be Ben's girlfriend from the flashbacks of him in his younger days. Could she be the girl who gave him that birthday present that he saved all those years??
I forgot what it was but I thought it was odd she cared so much for him and then he gassed her with the rest of them!
I'm tired and loopy and just grasping for straws...

I apoligize!

In Season 1 Danielle said that the others she was with had gotten sick and that she had killed them so that they wouldn't infect others when they got back home, or something like that. She was in love with a man (Robert maybe?).
