Lost my teaching job today UPDATE page 7

roadtripper, so happy to hear you got your job back but sorry you had to go through so much pain

Congrats on getting your job back! I'm sorry for all the stress you've had recently and the craziness that went on in the meantime. Glad you can plan your next trip now too. :thumbsup2

:banana: YAY! You got our job back!

It's a hard time to be a recently hired, untenured teacher. The faculty and staff in the school where I work as an ed tech are under similar pressure. We have recently been reorganized into a school unit with a larger neighboring system and another district about our size. The two smaller towns each have a k-8 school and send high school students to their choice of local high schools. The larger district (where I live) has it's own k-12 school system (3 schools; k-5, 6-8, 9-12). The "powers that be" have decided that all hiring will be done district-wide, so seniority will be apportioned district-wide, for all faculty and staff. Anyone with less than 5 years' employment is nervous (that includes me). The music teacher has already had her hours cut in half, and all the ed techs have been told there will be no indication until late August of how many techs are needed or where we will be working. The district will cut seven teachers, but nobody knows who or from where. Everyone has been told that in order to keep a job, they might have to change schools. This is not as simple as it sounds, and could leave some teachers with a 30-40 mile drive to work each day (doesn't sound like much but it's all across poorly-maintained country roads; this is Maine, you can't get there from here!). EVERYONE is very nervous- grateful to hopefully still have a job, but not happy about the cuts, relocations, etc. It's a tough time to be a teacher.

Thanks everyone, for the good wishes. Sending prayers to all those who are still waiting to hear about teaching next year.
leebee, keep us posted--that sounds so stressful!!

Glad it worked well for you. This is indeed a tough time to be a teacher. We are going through some serious changes and cuts. My biggest concern is my students. With some of these cuts they are losing out on very important aspects of their education and of course some of the most talented teaching staff is being let go. It is going to be a long, bumpy ride.
