my life is so disorganized lately -- so i finally sat down tonight to update my gypsy for the free carts and i cant find my USB cord anywhere to hook it up to my computer --- do they sell them at Michael's or ac moore --- any ideas what i can do?

thanks
jennifer

I think you are going to have to call ProvoCraft. No one else sells it.

thanks Lisa -- i will try and call them tomorrow -- what a pain -- i still need to download the free carts.

does anyone know if the cord is black or white -- i have the white one that hooks the computer up to the cricut but i cant find the cord that hooks the gyspy up to the computer

I just read today that's it's a common cable with a usb on one side and a mini-plug on the other. I don't have a Gypsy, but they sound like the same cable I use for my digital camera. You can check around your house first or maybe bring the Gypsy to Best Buy and see if they can help you.

Actually, you can use *any* USB cable that is USB type A (rectangular) on one end and USB mini on the other. I found the one supplied wasn't long enough for me, so I replaced it with a longer one.

In addition, if you lose the one to attach to your Cricut, you can just use one with a USB type B (square) on one end and USB mini on the other.

The only cable that *IS* special is the one to link the carts to the Gypsy.

thanks ladies:banana: I knew my dis-girls could help!! i am going to try it this morning (can anyone tell me where I left my cord for my camara :rotfl2: I never use that cord becuase i always put the flash card right into the computer) ~~ now to find the camara cord!! i will let you know how it turns out
Jennifer

not sure if you have a blackberry but that cord also works :D

ok so it worked!! my camera cord was still in the camera box but that is a really small plus so that didn't work -- but my son got a V-reader for Christmas and i tried that -- it works perfect and its a pretty shade of blue :)
i am now updating my gypsy -- its been a long time and i might take it to work today to play with the new free carts at lunch time -- maybe it will inspire me to get back to crafting!!!
thanks

Hey Jen - since you mentioned the Gypsy - tell me about it. Custom Crops has it on sale for $100. this week - considering buying it. Is it worth it? Pros and cons. Thanks. Caroline

caroline -- i love it -- no need to lug all the carts around -- the other day I had to use my cricut without my gypsy because i didnt update it -- so I just cut without it and it took me so long!! i am spoiled by it -- saves a ton of paper -- you are able to see how it is being laid out on the mat before cutting -- i dont use it to design anything becuase that is so beyond my skills but you can download other designs that others have done -- i have done softball shirts for a whole team and saved everyones name and number for next year -- its awesome -- someone said they saw a few of them on clearance at michaels for $40.00 --- I LOVE MINE!!! i still have to use the books to put pieces together -- but so nice not having to lug carts around!! plus you can loan friends your carts because you load them into you gypsy and dont need the actual cart. My father got it last year for me for my birthday and i wasnt sure if i would like it. but now i cant live without it!

its pretty user friendly and easy to use -- i am sure i dont know everything it does -- but i like what i am using it for -- plus you can search designs -- like see what carts have a crab on it -- or cupcakes -- or whatever -- i totally forget what carts have what designs on them. pLus they show you all the carts that are currently available -- so you are able to see designs before buying a whole cart. I have design studio too but never found myself using it much -- dont like having my laptop in the craftroom (unless i am watching a hockey game on it :)

let me know if you have any other questions

Caroline, Diana and I each have a Gypsy. When we go to the Cape Cod Crop, we'll show you how it works. I got mine for $100 in May but I know when of my crop ladies got it thanksgiving for $89, and M's had it last week for $47.

We'll keep an eye out for a good deal for you.:goodvibes

Thanks Lisa - look forward to trying it. I, too, will keep my eyes open for a good price. How much longer til our Cape Cod crop? BTW, do we have a name for this yr?

Jen I feel for you! I lost mine in the move last fall. Lisa was nice enough to let me borrow hers for a while! :worship::thumbsup2

I did buy a new cord at like Best Buy, but my G would not recognize it. When I looked at the connections they were just ever so slightly different. I called Provo Craft and they sent me a new one, free of charge.

But I know how you feel, I was so lost without my cord!! :lmao:

Caroline - I  my G. I bought it for $300 in 11/09. I got $100 in cricut.com credit, but to me it was worth every penny. I have 65 carts and to not have to bring every cart with me when I go somehwere is worth it.

Plus I do cuts for my dd preschool. Each week they have a different letter. I cut out the capital, small of each letter and 4 cuts that start with that letter. There are 10 kids in her class so I need 10 of everything. Love my G to be able to lay everything out on the mat.

Now I have started to figure out how to use it for laying when making cards. So worth the money to me. I could not craft without it anymore!
