I was wondering if anybody has lost a magic band either before arriving at their resort or during their stay and how it was handled.

Here is what was on Disney's FAQ section about Magic Bands:
"If you can access disneyworld.com, please visit the MagicBand section of My Profile, select the “Deactivate” button next to the MagicBand or card and when asked for the reason why, indicate that the MagicBand or card is lost. You can also deactivate a MagicBand using the My Disney Experience mobile app.

If you lose your MagicBand or card at Walt Disney World Resort, please visit Guest Relations or a Disney Resort hotel Lobby Concierge and we will deactivate it for you and provide you with a replacement MagicBand or card.

If you have another available MagicBand or card, you can activate it on the MagicBand section of My Profile in My Disney Experience. If your visit is more than 10 days away, contact us to have a replacement MagicBand shipped to you.

Replacement MagicBands may be subject to a fee.

Robo had mentioned they will give you a grey one as a replacement for no charge and since we all know the whole MDE, Magic Band, FP+ programs are changing on an almost constant basis, there could be changes on that too.

From Shelly S:
"My pink band fell off on space mountain. I went to guest services and was given another pink band (was asked what color the one I lost was). Only difference it didn't have my name on it. No charge. Band I lost was cancelled and new one had all my info loaded. This was just last month."

Feel free to chime in if you have any other experiences with lost magic bands.

From Robo:

"To be clear, there is no info "loaded" on a MagicBand."

DS9 had a problem with his MB. The first time he took it off he tore off one of the nubs that helps it clasp. While in WDW, the other ripped off when he tried to use it through one of the sleeves that they sell. We went right to City Hall in MK and it was replaced free of charge with another blue band. Everything transferred but his access to the hotel room, which was not a huge issue. We were almost done our trip so we never asked to have it fixed.

DD lost hers at DHS. Went to guest relations and they replaced it right away including putting her FP+ selections back on it. They asked her what color she lost but they did not have another red one so it she got a gray one. There was no charge.

Just to keep things as clear as possible, there is no info or FP+ "put onto" a MagicBand.

The bands just access the info stored in your MDE computer file.

If you lose a band, the info stays in your file.
They just set up a new band to access the info in your file.

Thanks for that explanation :-)
So the magic band is just technology that, once activated, accesses your MDE file data.

(I understand it better now)

My DD lost hers on her last day there. We just used the backup KTTW card they had given us at POR and it worked fine. We didn't want to spend the time to go to guest relations since we only had a half day at the park.

Yes.

It's like the combination to a locked safe.
Or a key to a locked door.

The device, itself, is not the file of info…
It just unlocks the file of info to be read, when needed.

Sorry if incorrect terminology. That is how the guest services rep explained it to me. He said the old band was cancelled and could no longer be used. All tickets, fastpasses, etc were loaded into the new band. Not sure how else to explain it.

Line was very long at guest services, but moved very quickly. I was very surprised he came out from the back with a pink band. I even asked if it was mine. I was told they had extras for replacement.

We leave next week for a weekend trip before our cruise. I will be sure to keep checking my band to make sure it stays fastened. I hate to waste park time in line again for a replacement.

I did explain it, just above.

I doubt that most CM's have been trained in HOW the system works, anyway.

It's not a catastrophe to say it incorrectly, but it is much more reassuring to guests who might LOSE a MB
to know that what they have lost does not contain their charge card, ticket, room key, etc. info ON it.

The bands are just the "key" not the "safe." ;)
