Lost luggage what did they end up reimbursing you?

Southwest has lost one of our luggage bags. It's going on day 20. We have filled out all the forms, etc...and I valued the bag and contents at 674.00. They are currently in the process of doing one final sweep to find the bag. I sent pictures of the items with some receipts. Has anyone had a lost luggage bag and what did they end up giving you for compensation?

Interesting question. I have clothes I keep for Disney (super light weight tees, capri pants, waterproof sandals.) They are all at least 2-3 years old, and none were expensive. And I certainly don't have receipts any longer. I would probably just claim for my suitcase and shoes (because I do have those receipts). Anything of value I carry on the plane. I do know that reimbursement is capped at a certain dollar amount (funny but that dollar amount is less for international travel). Kanga, be sure to come back to tell us the resolution.

Bill Mosley, a spokesman for the Department of Transportation, said airlines must compensate passengers for “provable loss” resulting from delayed, lost or damaged baggage up to $3,300 per passenger for domestic flights and up to $1,742 for international flights (a number negotiated by treaty that varies with exchange rates). “This would include claims for incidental expenses like buying clothing and toiletries when a consumer’s baggage is delayed,” Mosley wrote in an email.

SWA lost our luggage on our flight to California. It went to Seattle! They delivered the bags to our hotel the next evening. I received $200 in vouchers and, because of the condition of the bags when they were delivered, they also bought me new luggage.

Still waiting for an update on what they will pay for our luggage, if anything but randomly tonight in an email I received 100 dollars in "luv " dollars.

Me again I came back on to update the post just because I know when this happened to me and I was googling about the situation a lot of people posted their problems but never came back to respond about what the outcome was. I received an email from southwest today that says they will be sending me a certified check in the full amount that I claim the bag is worth so all in all it ended up as the best case scenario for someone who's lost their luggage. Even though my sons lanyard was in there with all of his collectible pins he's looking forward to our next trip and trying to fill a new lanyard up.

That is just a shame. But glad they are filling your claim with ease for you.

It's ironic (or not) that Southwest is one of the airlines that doesn't track bags electronically.
When we fly Delta and American are bags are scanned, and the app alerts me as the bags are loaded on the plane, in baggage claim, etc. Not with Southwest.
Southwest was also the only time my bag didn't arrive on time. It arrived later, a practice them seem to do more than other airlines. Which I don't believe is a coincidence between them not having a tracking system either.
When my bag was a no show I made comment that I sure did miss the bag tracking from Delta their staff informed me they were working to add it. I'll believe it when I see it as they'll have to cut way down on their practice of putting bags on different flights if they do. I've decided if I ever fly Southwest again I'm getting an electronic bag tracker to put in my suitcase. Eliminate my worry.

The Unclaimed Baggage Center is not too far from me. I know many people who go shopping there. We do some work for them but I've never gone over there myself. Maybe I will one day. I hear it's a pretty spectacular place to go

Whereas Delta is the only airline that has misplaced DH's luggage. :)

Though not since they started tracking the bags.

They also destroyed his bag; took a look at it at the office in Seatac and rolled out a brand new hard sided roller bag to him (same company as FAs use).

I can't imagine going there. The airlines don't do much due diligence IMO to get bags back with customers, and I just can't see buying (literally) into that nonsense.

I'm still STUNNED by the poster here who got $200 in vouchers for a bag that was delivered the very next day...

That's on my bucket list. What's the nearest airport?

Biggest issue is, there isn't a major airport close. We are an hour away here in Chattanooga but our airport is a small regional airport, only 5 gates so good fares are hit and miss.
Major airports are Nashville, Atlanta and Birmingham. They are all about 2 hours away, give or take 15 min.
