Lost job- Disney in 3 weeks

I wont comment on if you should go or not.... how i would save money.

Back PB and J for on the way down and try to drive through, or stay in cheap places... south of the boarder anyone?

You have the dining plan... you wont NEED money for snacks. Use your snack for breakfast (or bring pop tarts, cereal bars, etc), and your two meals and you will be fine. You will have your mugs for drinks at the resort.

Swing by the dollar store and check for disney trinkets and get some glow necklaces and just give your kids those when down there.

Thanks guys and thank you to the ones who didn't assume that I couldn't afford to go.... ;) our trip has been paid for. ( resort and park tix)

I used to serve court papers so I've been doing some papers a s helping out my old boss to make some extra cash just for trip and cleaned a few houses last week...

My Dh has a great job- we have just gotten use to two incomes and will have to cut back some. Also- we spend so much on child care/after school so that would be a cost we wouldn't have... I did have an interview last week and have submitted my resume to several places...

Our trip is four nights & we are doing Halloween party and we do have free dining plan.

Thanks for those of you that offered advice and encouragement!

Based on 2 incomes, and at least 3 months of reserve savings I would go and not look back. (*** I would cut corners, BBB, TS, Character meals, skip balloons/ sov, and down scale the room if possible (IE go to value or mod if staying Del or Villa ect).

GOOOD LUCK AND LIVE LIFE!

Thank you! As I said earlier, I wanted to save money.. Not cancel trip! :) good idea about dollar store & we do normally bring cereal bars, etc for breakfast.

since you have the dining plan, can't imagine you'll need many snacks! as for souveniers, let the kids spend a certain amount - perhaps 25 each! find a cheap motel, bring some snacks and have a great trip!

Thank you!! I need to remind myself of this sometimes too... Live Life!!! Just waiting on a door to be opened for me! :)

I would skip the overnight stay in the hotel. It looks like you are in South Carolina?

That's definitely a doable one day drive easily.

We usually have 100.00 a day extra spending money on us but we could cut that in half and be just fine.

You could definitely do it in a day...we drove home to MD in 14.5 hours. That was too long, but then we could sleep in our own beds. Have a great time and hope you find a great new job when you get back.

OP, go on the trip and have fun! Since its already paid for, in your shoes, heck ya i'd go!!! Thats just me. LOL! Youre on the DP (free dining) so i cant imagine you'd need a boat load of snacks. Have fun, esp at the halloween party. Its a ton of fun! :)

BTW good luck on the job hunt.

My parents used to drive us sixteen hours "home" to visit grandparents.

Break up the drive by leaving very early in the morning. Find somewhere to stop around lunchtime. Have lunch and run around a public park, playground, museum. Take an hour or two or three even. Get back in the car and finish your drive.

Note, don't expect the kids to sleep - they won't - but they might be quiet.

My sister drives her kids five hours reguarly to come "home" and they stop about two and a half hours in and go shopping at Target. Yeah. It isn't exciting, and they don't buy anything, but it gets them out of the car for half an hour to run through Target.

You're my kind of person!! That's what I'm thinking.. Shouldn't need much Mindy since our meals are paid for... Heck, that's 5 nights I don't have to buy groceries at home for! :)
I'm most excited about Halloween party!
