Ten days ago our indoor/outdoor cat disappeared. We live in a subdivision in a medium-large city (not quite a million people) but there is a section of woods near our home.
Meanwhile, our (adult)DD lives 1000 miles from here and her cat disappeared just a day or two after ours. She hired a pet detective who gave her some tips on what happens to cats when they disappear, and our DD shared them with us. One of the suggestions was to walk around a few blocks and talk in a normal tone. Tonight at dusk, we walked around the neighborhood talking to each other and calling the name of the cat (not yelling) but we came home empty handed. About a half-hour later, our cat was at the door just as she is when she's just been out for a few hours.
So Pt. 1 is our cat is home safely. Hopefully our DD will have similar success on her end.

Probably a dog chased her into unfamiliar territory and she lost her bearings. You were able to talk her home.
