LOST and FOUND

While on our last trip to WDW this past month (march 18-23). I lost an expensive pair of sunglasses. I still cannot believe a fellow disney guest did not turn them into lost and found. It was a rainy Friday, we ducked into the ABC comm for a bite to escape the rain. Food was really good for counter service. It was still rainy by time we had finished so on with the yellow mickey raincapes and dash to front gate to get boat back to Swan. Got to gates realized sunglasses where missing headed back to ABC comm the way just came and nothing. Ask on of the nice ladies straightning up the Comm if they had found them. She said no but checked in back, no luck. Next morning made special trip over to MGM lost and found an resturaunt to check but no luck. Lost and found said all of yesterdays stull was shipped over to central lost and found by kennels over at MK. So went over there. Gave cast member vitals on sunglasses did ring a bell but he was nice enough to show me the lost sunglasses from the day before at MGM. At least I am definately not the only one in a "DISNEY DAZE" while at WDW. My question to you fellow Dis members is: I want to email lost and found, maybe email them a picture of my valuable sunglasses to see if some one handed them in after I headed home to cold Pa. but I cannot find an email address? Please help I know in my heart fellow WDW guest do not steal other guest items.

If you left these glasses in a Philadelphia mall, do you think you would get them back? Chances are roughly the same at WDW. The majority of people are honest but some are not.

If no one can give you a direct e-mail, I suggest you use the regular Disney site e-mail and tell them what you would like to do (e-mail the picture). I'm sure they will help you out. However, I wouldn't get your hopes up. If the glasses weren't there when you checked immediately and the next day, they probably aren't going to be turned in now. I remember reading articles about the thousands of sunglasses turned into WDW lost & found every year so you aren't alone in losing them.

Good luck -- you may get lucky and get them back.

I have good news and bad news for you.

Bad- On our honeymoon in 1995, I lost a camera. We did a similar back tracking of what you did, ending up in L&F near the kennels, and never did get the camera back.

Good-On our last trip DH dropped a pager somewhere in AK. As soon as we returned to our resort he realized it and called AK. They had it right there! I also lost a gold/diamond bracelet somwhere between our last ride of the morning, Splash MT(I remember seeing it while on the ride) and the Poly. We contacted the Poly, MK, etc... with no luck. The next morning we were leaving and checked again, with no luck. We left all our info and less than a week after we were home, the bracelet showed up in my mail. There is still hope for your sunglasses. I hope it works out well for you.

We lost two things on the last trip.

First was bottle bag that we used for DD's formula. We backtracked and couldn't find it. They did end up finding this and shipping it back to us. Even better, the bottles and bags were washed. I can't imagine what they would have smelled like 2-3 weeks after we lost them.

We also lost DD's small pin bag at DTD one night. That was never turned in. I hope the person that found it and kept it for themselves was really happy with them as it certainly made my DD sad.

If you filled out the form for lost & found that's the best you can do. I guess a picture could help (won't hurt).

Last year dh left our camera on the back of the chair at Mama Melrose, realized it on the walk to fantasmic and ran back for it. The camera was not there :-(
He went to Guest Services and filled out a form with a CM.

Two weeks later our camera arrived in the mail - postage paid and everything.

Don't give up hope they are great with L&F -

As we were waiting for our flight home in November, my 12 y.o. realized he had lost his wallet. It just held a few dollars, his school id, a few receipts, and his AK pin. Nothing of great significance but important to him. I called lost & found the following day, told them where we thought he lost it, what it looked like, etc. They put me on hold and returned saying they had it. I am still amazed, realizing the size of the property and number of visitors.

A friend lost her wallet at the MK. It contained a lot of money, credit cards, all the family's room keys, all their tickets, etc. She was a wreck and had no hopes that it would be found. What a wonderful surprise to find that someone had found it and turned it in...everything intact! The story certainly renewed our faith in the people out there!

I should also say that the day after DD lost her pin bag, we were in the Magic Kingdom during the Magic Mornings (or whatever they are calling them now) and found a camera bag with lots of camera equipment and film on a bench outside of the emporium. DD saw it and said "We should go turn it in". So she and I carried it over to the Town Hall and turned it in. As we were walking back, she told me "I wish someone turned in my bag like this."

Mackey Mouse- Thank you for the welcome! After many, many visits to this site, I have finally registered. Susie Snowflake is a nickname a favorite uncle gave me as a child. I'm glad it brought back some nice memories for you. Using it as my user name also brings back warm memories for me, since my uncle is no longer living.

jfulcer- That was so sweet, and sad, what your DD said after finding the camera bag. Wish I had been the one to find her pin bag...she'd have it now.

We lost my cell phone at DL in 2001. Thankfully someone found it. We called it and they answered. We told them where we were staying and they dropped it off at the front counter. We never even got to say thanks! I mean I did but... well you know. I was sooo thankful they turned it in.

We (my DS aged 10) left our $300 camera in Parrot Cay (Disney Magic) on a cruise. Didn't discover it was missing until after we left the ship. We also had a video cam and SLR camera - the point-and-shoot (yes, a $300 point and shoot) was for the kids and not missed by the adults who were using other equipment.

Placed a call to the cruise line - they did an immediate check with cruise cleaning staff and no one found it. Left a description and where we last remembered seeing it (Day #1 on the cruise) - received it in the mail a couple of weeks later.

Had similar experiences with the parks - with ONE exception - a pair of Oakley SUNGLASSES. Same DS (same trip, no less) left his brand new (days old) Tilley hat and Oakley sunglasses at the Brown Derby. I called and yes, they had found them. I requested, against their policy, that they NOT send them to central lost and found, since we wanted to pick them up early the next morning at MGM. They reluctantly said "OK". I asked them to leave a note for the manager that indicated they had found both hat and glasses - which they also did.

Next morning, bright and early, we stopped at Brown Derby. Hat - no problem. Oakly sunglasses - no sign. Needless to say we were concerned about the glasses (as we still had the receipt from the CrossRoads Sunglasses Hut a few days earlier). They handed over the hat and look in askance at us about the glasses. I asked them to read the note left the night before for the manager - and when they did, they noted the reference to the fact that both hat AND glasses had been found and put aside. Sad to say, no guest could have walked off with them at this point, and yet they were missing.

Disney, being Disney, immediately suggested that I replace the glasses and bring them the receipt - and they would reimbursed me (check mailed to my home). They were clearly (but quietly) distraught about the implications that the Oakley sunglasses were most likely taken by someone "inside". They also noted (kindly) that their policy to ship to central lost and found nightly might have prevented this problem - the implication being that this is one of the contingencies that the policy is intended to preclude.

What's you point, Ehagerty?
If your sunglasses were EXPENSIVE - and attactive to young people - you are unlikely to see them again, even under the best possible circumstances (which would be that they were found by Disney personnel, who are almost always likley to turn it in)!!!

If in fact they were turned into Central Lost & Found, I feel confident that the Disney return system will work.

Being new to reading glasses (and also a tad absentminded) I left a pair at the AKL. After we got home I recieved a note from AKL asking me to call and claim them. I told the CM that they were cheapo and to please feel free to do with them what they will. A month later I recieved a second call from someone in the glasses graveyard at Lost and Fond. "What should they do with these glasses?" "Pitch 'em" To make a long story short(ish), 3 months after our trip I recieved a package from WDW. Kids and I got all flustered. Perhaps it was a free vacation to thank us for our loyalty lo these many years! Nope, just those stupid glasses from the dollar store. WDW must have spent several times their worth on man hours, shipping and packing (these $1 glasses were padded in bubble wrap like a Ming vase.) I don't know the point of this saga except perhaps being cheap and tacky will insure that none of your stuff gets swiped

I also lost a pair of prescription sun glasses the first day of the trip!!! I'd bought one of the chains to put your glasses on so I wouldn't have to keep swithing them. I was holding my DD and the whole thing fell off . We checked the lost and found but they were long gone.

We also lost one of the MK mister bottles. My DD left it at Casey's Corner and we went back later and it was gone!!

We have lost so many items there.-a cell phone we did track down.

My son's autograph book- no sign of it evena fter weeks of call central ost and found

My husband's wallet- locked in safe - he forgot he put it there

My daughter took off her waist pouch on Buzz and as soon as we got off noticed we went right back and searched ride but no sign of it- someone must have taken it right after she left the seat- it was never turned in or mailed back. She was so sad but CM gave her new magical moments game that was in it.

Son's lanyard- we found it in Grandma's suitcase.

I don't know what happens to Lost and Found items between the time they are lost and are sent to the graveyard, but I know that at "the graveyard" everything from strollers to cameras to glasses, and sometimes clothing and more personal items, are sold to CMs at a hefty discount (I guess if you can count selling something that they found for free as a discount!) When I worked at the resorts the usual policy was to keep found things at the registers for awhile and if no one asked to take them to the front desk. That's the last we saw of them. They were only really strict about money, they would have undercover shoppers leave money on purpose just to see if we turned it in. However, they didn't seem to bother with anything else.

Even on expensive pairs, the only id# I've seen on them is the model number. There is never an actual serial number for the individual pair. Subtle variations in style make it nearly impossible to track down the correct pair if you are looking at a big bin of recovered glasses.

I'm infamous for losing sunglasses, so I never buy the expensive kind. Even so, I've started to do something to make it easier to ID them in case they get picked up and taken to L&F. I keep a bottle of really odd-colored fingernail polish, and make a couple of distinctive marks on the inner frame. You could also use a penknife to make some particular scratchmarks, but that would be harder to spot in a pile.

We were at WDW last week and my husband found a resort card with charging priviledges on the ground at AK. We turned it in right away to the security guard that was standing nearby.

We didn't get my daughter's shampoo and conditioner back that she left in the shower at the 1500 loop at Ft. Wilderness however.

Oh well.

My sister had made for me a beautiful beaded "mother bracelet" with my daughter's name on it. I lost it in February, either at MGM or somewhere on the grounds of POFQ. No luck recovering.

On a more annoying note, on a previous trip we bought two vintage sixties-era Fantasia posters, and put them up on the amoire of our room at BWV. They looked great there-- so naturally part of the room we forgot to pack them. We called the next day and no one could find them. No one could have possibly found them but housekeeping. What happened to them? Guess that's what happens when you forget to leave a tip on check-out day.

We've also lost one Teva sandal, a camera case, a set of keys... we've never had anything found before.
