Losing weight for our weddings!! See new thread.

Thanks, Betsy! Seeing your hard work pay off is a great motivator for me. I'll definitely give the online version of WW a try. :) Thanks again to all the ladies for the support. Hopefully the next time I post I'll have some motivation for others too.

I just wanted to say: Awesome job Betsie! I want your arms. That's the area I really want to tone up, along with my thighs. I'm currently training for the 2010 Disney Marathon and doing p90x. It's intense!

Also I find it helpful to find healthful alternatives to favorite foods: baked fries instead fried, light ice cream or ice cream bars/pops (for portion control) instead of full fat-- I think the Edys light tastes the same as regular. Kashi bars instead of candy bars etc... This way you are not denying yourself but still being healthful. Just make sure not to overindulge because it's a "healthy food" I gained my 30 lbs as a vegan, eating very healthy. I just ate too much.

Great job everyone and keep up the good work!

I started my weight loss journey last August when we knew we were done having kids. I get toxemia/pre-eclampsia with my pregnancies... causes protein in the urine, high blood pressure, extreme weight gain, bed rest, and ultimately an induction when your blood pressure gets too high. Not the most pleasant but I survived and my kids are healthy and happy (born at 37 and 38 weeks respectively, so we did good). :)

I gained an average of 70lbs with each pregnancy due to the toxemia... very frustrating, since I was not eating like I should be for gaining 70lbs. lol I started off with WW, but found myself using my points for not the best foods. In November a friend gave her a months worth of Nutri-system. That taught me how to eat the proper foods but kept me on a strict daily boring plan I didn't totally love. So in December I combined the two and came up with my own plan. The majority of the time I'm eating basically the same thing every day, but if I need to sub something out everything is arranged by my points and I just sub out for the same amount of points.

It's worked, I lost 30lbs before my surgery goal. Oh yeah, surgery... the toxemia completely destroyed my stomach muscles. I was going in for a breast reduction (went from a 34I to a 34D) to correct back issues and the surgeon said they would not be fully corrected unless I fixed my stomach muscles as well. So I went ahead with the Breast Reduction and the Tummy Tuck. They did extensive muscle repair to my stomach and my back problems are gone. :cool1: That was five weeks ago... I have another week of 5lbs lifting restrictions and then I can start doing a little more exercise again.

So surgery took off another 5lbs and I'm still pretty swollen for the moment... will be until 3 - 6 months post op.

My heaviest was 265lbs the day I was induced with DS2. Right now I'm sitting at 179lbs. So I guess in total I've lost 86lbs, but I'm only counting from when I actively started in August at 214lbs. I've got another 15 - 20lbs to lose to be at my ultimate weight (18% body fat), but I'd be happy with another 10lbs off... especially if it comes off my thighs. :lmao:

This is what my plan looks like...
Breakfast
-Quaker Weight Control Cinnamon Oatmeal (2/3 cup water, microwave for 4 min. on 50% power)
-1 cup Frozen Raspberries/Blueberries in Oatmeal
-1 Hard Boiled Egg
-22oz (Nalgene Bottle) of water

Lunch
-1/4 cup Cottage Cheese with green onion mixed in
-minimum 1 cup of salad (Field Greens bagged salad) with 1 tbsp Ranch Dressing
-Campbell's Soup to Go Cup (usually cream of Broccoli)
-22oz of water

Snack
-Green apple (or other piece of small fruit)
-Source Dessert Yogurt
- 16oz cup of Acai Berry flavour tea (just from Walmart, nothing fancy like the ads you see all over these days... I like the flavour)

Supper
-minimum 1 cup of salad with 1 tbsp Ranch Dressing
-2 cups Frozen veggies steamed in microwave
-Frozen dinner from WW/Smart Ones or Lean Cuisine (less than 6 points)
-22oz bottle of water

Snack
-Thinsations 100cal snack (usually the Peak Freans cookies)
-22oz bottle of water (I don't always get through this entire bottle, but I try)

My goal is to lose 5 - 10 pounds by August when we next go to Disney. :lovestruc

This seems like waaaaay more water than I currently drink. I have cut out all other beverages (Coke! *sob*) but does the water in and of itself help with weight loss somehow? In other words, is drinking 4 Nalgene bottles better than drinking 2? (I'm guessing I do 2 at most.)

I've been told to get the proper amount of water you need to take your weight in pounds, divide by two and drink that many ounces of water per day.

So... currently I should be doing this...
179lbs divided by two equals 90lbs... so I need 90 oz of water per day, which is roughly 4 Nalgene bottles per day (22oz in each bottle).

Water keeps you hydrated, keeps your skin looking nice and most importantly for snackers... keeps you full! You have no room to snack. Perfect for me. :lmao:

Another vote for WW online from me!!! I loooove online and that's how I lost 40lb last year. :)

I think with the combination of that, and us to help you, you'll do great!! :teeth:

Hi all ladies not on my August challenge chart!

I am going to make a new, much prettier version tonight. :)

So if you would like to be added, then please let me know your weight loss goal by mid-august. :)

Also, I am going to make a big start weight/goal weight progress chart for the fisr post, so if you want in on that (I totally understand if you don't want weight info posted on their though!) then also let me know!! :) So just your start weight, goal weight and the weight you are now! :)

Haha... my bf keeps telling me that water will fill me up, but I thought he was making it up! I'm a HUGE snacker, so this definitely is a great tip! I just went and filled up my Nalgene bottle... I have 2 bottles to go given what I've already drank today (my Nalgene holds 32 oz).

This is the girl I mentioned before. She was in a pop band in the 90s, and when the band split up she put on loads of weight. There was a show with her a while back as she tried to lose the weight for her wedding:

I have this DVD  I got it for £2.99 - its really good I much prefer dancing fitness DVD's :)

Am I too late to join?

I don't have that long left, so I'm going to keep it realistic for the summer weight loss challenge and say I'd like to lose 1lb a week.

I signed up to WW for a 2 week free trial, and really enjoyed using the online system, but begrudged paying so much, so bought the points books and a calculator and cancelled my membership.

I don't go to meetings at all, so you girls might be my motivation!

I started about 3 months or so back and lost about 7lb in total, but for the last few weeks I've gone back to eating what I feel like more without counting (cakes!) and think I've put back on a couple of pounds, so as of this week I want to start counting again. I'd ideally like to lose a stone by our wedding, but I don't seem to lose it fast, so we'll just have to wait and see how I get on........

I would LOVE to participate with you guys, if that's okay. The weight I'd like to use may not sound like a lot, but everybody knows the last 10 lbs is the absolute hardest. It's at the point where I have to struggle like crazy for each and every little ounce of weight loss. Any my metabolism is literally non-existent. I can watch someone eat an Oreo and gain a half pound.

Starting Weight (as of 6/1/2009): 142.6
Height: 5'7"
Healthy Weight Range: 124 - 148
Goal: 135
Weight to Lose: 7.6

My Motivation: Being the frugal person that I am, I managed to score an amazing Kirstie Kelly for Disney Platinum Edition wedding gown off eBay for 8% of retail - brand new with tags! The dress arrived on Friday and it's just perfect! There must be a million little rhinestones and sparkly beads on it. So I tried on the dress (it's a size 12), and I'm about 1 - 2 inches away from being able to zip it up. So, I'm telling you guys the same thing I'm telling everyone else - if it means I have to lose 10 pounds, find a really good seamstress, a plastic surgeon AND a fairy godmother - I'm WEARING that dress! :rotfl:

My History: I've struggled with my weight all my life, and reached my highest weight of 183 lbs around Dec 2002, which was when I graduated with my Master's degree. The stress of 7 and a half years of school and caring for my son had really taken a toll on my life. It was at that time, that my first husband and I divorced.

In Jan 2003, I ordered the Weight Watchers at home program. Being newly divorced and finished with school gave me the motivation and time to commit to becoming a healthier person. I reached 150 in a matter of a few months, and it seemed relatively effortless. So for the last 6+ years, I've held steady between around 147 - 153, yo-yo-ing between those two numbers. I've hit rough patches and went up to around 154, and dieted and gone down to around 142, but my body just seems to want to stick around 150.

With 9 months to go until the wedding, I set out on March 1st, to get in shape. I started out at 151.9, and lost almost 10 pounds in March and April. May was rough, but I held steady and managed to keep the weight gain to 0.1 lbs.

Now I have 6 months to go until the wedding, and realistically 3 to 4 months to lose as much weight I need to before the dress fittings and alterations begin.

Thanks to everyone for sharing, and I know we can ALL reach our realistic and healthy goals!!! :flower3:

Of course not!! :)

I'm just making the new table now! :)

Will add you on! The more the merrier!

OMG - what a bargain!!!!!!!!!!!!! How amazing!! :cloud9:

And well done on getting to such a healthy weight and staying there!

Adding you on now. :)

Hello girls!

I'd like to be in the first post thing too! My start weight (at 13/6 before my diet) was 190lbs. I'm down to 182.5lbs now. My goal weight I suppose is 148lbs - which would mean I would have lost 3st. My ultimate goal is to be around 146lbs (9st7lbs) but this would mean losing 4st by next summer and I don't want to set an unattainable goal for myself! I'll just have to work hard!

That is too much water..there is something called hyper-hydration or water intoxication...The 8oz x 8 is a myth..My husband told me this and I didn't believe him (he is a paramedic and sees a lot of water intoxication)
Here is an article I quickly pulled up
http://www.scienceagogo.com/news/20020711213420data_trunc_sys.shtml

I always have a glass of water on my desk, but if you are not sweating it out heavily, please be careful!

I retain water quite a bit, so I could not drink that much in one day!

Gemma, where did you find it for £2.99?! I prefer dancing, etc.. too!

In Matalan - randomly! I've being trying to alternate the Steps dvd, Davina dvd and Wii fit as I get bored doing the same thing!

I find the Davina DVD soooo hard!!! I can't even keep up with the lady who does the 'easy' version!!

I have heard of hyper-hydration and water intoxication and I thank you for your concern. (that sounds pretentious and it's not meant to be) :) However, I'd have to drink a whole lot more than 90 oz of water per day to be even near this point.

I have consulted with fitness experts and trainers before starting this (over the past year and a half) and know that I am fine with what I am doing. My skin is clearer, my body feels better (less weighed down) and drinking water does control my snack cravings. :)

For the most part the article is correct, a lot of our water intake can be found in the foods we eat... provided we are eating a balanced diet with veggies/fruits in it. Processed food/junk is not going to provide extra water... actually they are high in sodium which is just going to make us want to drink more water. Unfortunately, processed food is what most people are eating and then you do need to be getting your water intake in every day. :)
