I am a California native and recent transplant to SWFL. I was born in LA and lived there, San Diego and the Bay Area for 38 of my 52 years. I have a colleague flying Emirates through LA to Dallas for a team meeting. He has a full day layover and will be in a LAX hotel the last weekend in February.

He is from India and has a young family but he'll be travelling alone therefore I don't want to send him to Disneyland. There is a lot to see and do in LA...

I was thinking something along the lines of Hollywood, Griffith Observatory, the Sunset Strip and being in Santa Monica for the sunset.

What would you recommend as a 1 day excursion to give him that quintessential LA feeling?

After sunset at Santa Monica, I suggest the Third Street Promenade for a stroll and dinner. Link

Might be a dumb question... But at this time of year, around what time does the sun set in LA?
