'Lorne's Magical Milestone Birthday' Trip Report

I’ve picked up a birthday card for every day of the trip. It was taking a long time trying to pick them out according to whatever was planned. I gave up after a while, but at least some of them will be appropriate to that day’s events. On some days, (not all) he can open a little present too. My DD and DSIL came over last night and gave Lorne 3 Tshirts that they made. Really cute. You will see pics of them in my TR. She also made a delicious Butter Pecan birthday cake for him too. Yummmmmy.
This is Monday morning, we leave Wednesday afternoon, and I haven’t even begun to pack. I have some stuff put together in a box, but no clothes at all. We did bring the suitcases out of the storage locker on the weekend. Perhaps I’d better get to it. I’m sick right now, but was able to get an appointment with my Dr. today, so hopefully, she will help me feel better before the cruise on Saturday.
In looking things over, I think I will just let things unfold as they should. No more calling for ressies, no more wondering…..what will we do on this day?? We are leaving some things to chance, but that should be fun, too.
Looking forward to meeting people that I have ‘talked to’ on these (and other) boards.
I don’t know if I will be posting before we go or not, so I will wish everyone who is traveling during that time, safe journey. All who remain here on the boards, happy planning.
Stay safe, everyone.

Have a wonderful trip! Can't wait to hear about it when you return! And I think you are checking into POFQ the day before we leave (15th, we leave the 16th) so maybe we'll pass you by in the lobby or something!

Allyson :)

This PTR is great, I can't wait to read what happened on the trip. You have so many lovely things planned. We are doing the cruise in 2009 so I will love reading about that.

I hope you had a magical time!!

we actually got back on Monday, and it was wonderful. Sadly, though, my dear Uncle George passed away and I had a funeral to help arrange. It was yesterday. Hopefully, on the weekend, I can get to happier things, like downloading hundreds of pics and getting down to the TR.

Hug the ones you love
Cathy

I'm so sorry. That is sad to come home too.

I am looking forward to hearing about your trip.

Cathy :grouphug: so sorry to hear about your uncle. We will be here when you are ready.

Just found this...sorry to hear about your uncle...I understand completely..

JORDAN!!:worship:
Thanks for the kind words and hug. I know that you know all too well about losing someone you love. Hope the healing is coming along.
Thanks for joining in!!

Well, we’re back…and it was GREAT!!!! The surprises worked out, and Lorne was constantly thanking me throughout the trip. The cutest one was when he said “I’ve never had a birthday like this in my whole life!!” Made me feel soooooooooo goooooooooood. I found out that just like in the parks, you can ‘go commando’ on the cruise too. I had intended this to be a relaxing vacation, but we didn’t do a whole lot of that. That’s okay though. We still had a MAGICAL time. ;) Most things that we did, we did for the first time. So it was really cool. :goodvibes That said…… on to the report…….
We were to leave on Wednesday night, around 8:00. We were a bit concerned because there had been a big snowstorm on Tuesday with snow, sleet, freezing rain, the works.:scared1: However Wednesday had been clear, so the road crews had time to clear the roads and the airports had time to clear the runways. Whew!
The town car picked us up at 5:30; we had no trouble getting to the airport. Going through customs was fairly easy, but the US customs agent was so droll,he reminded me of Eeyore. I had a hard time keeping a straight face. But I knew better.
In Eeyore’s voice…:eeyore: ..where.. are.. you ..goin? How.. long ..you.. gonna ..be.. there? Business.. or.. personal? Now the whole time he is talking, he’s not looking at us, but just flipping the papers, and checking our passports. He actually was so sad it was funny. Anyhow, off with the shoes, everything in the baskets, please. The lady ahead of me was in her bare feet. On the airport floor……EWWWWWWW!!:crazy2: All in all, this was pretty painless and we proceeded to our gate area. It was now 6:45. We passed the time chatting with a couple going to Vegas.Because of the chain reaction of delays with yesterday’s storm, our plane was late leaving Orlando, so our Toronto takeoff time was actually 9:10 p.m. We landed at 11:45, and had a bit of a kafuffle over the DME. We went back to pickup our bags, then back again to the bus. We were dropped off at ASMO at 1:45 and got into the room 1743 (Buzz section) at 2:15. We hit the hay hungry and with headache. At least no alarms to set this trip…we’ll get up whenever we want to. We slept well.

What’s up for tomorrow? The Monorail Resort Loop.

I'm glad you are starting, very excited to read about your adventure!

Allyson :)

Well, we are both morning people, so I was up at 7:00, Lorne got up a bit before 9:00. I didn’t venture from the room, just unpacked a little for our two days here, and then watched the Disney loop on the TV for a little bit. BOY, this is a neat place to be huh? We booked a preferred room, so it was close to the foodcourt and buses, but it was on the first floor, when we requested higher floor. However, it turned out to be a great room, because it was in the back and very quiet. Here is our view

Lorne got his first card and little giftie.

We ate breakfast in the food court of ASMO, each ordering the platter. We soon found out how much food that actually was. We’ll learn. I double checked the ressie for the Segway tour tomorrow with Rick at Guest Services. He spoke with Addie on the phone and confirmed everything.
I thought that since we are not going to the parks this trip, it would be nice to do some new things. Today, we would just explore the shops and the grounds of the monorail resorts. So……we took the bus to MK and then up the ramp to the resort monorail. Before these boards, we had no idea that we could ride up front. I asked the cast member, and it was available for the very next train!!! Lorne had no idea what I had said to the CM. His jaw nearly dropped when he saw where we were going. He looked at me and said, really? Its okay? He got a real big kick out of it.
P1000537.jpg

Not TOO happy, is he? We went to the GF first.

The lobby is fabulous! The shops are lovely. I bought him a pair of Mickey socks in the haberdashers. We then took the boat to the Poly. What a beautiful place. The gardens, fountains, the shops were great. We actually ate in Captain Cooks. While we were waiting for our food, the man in the next booth got a call on his cell phone. He was yelling into it! Not that he seemed angry, its just the entire restaurant could hear his conversation about how he wanted his garden planted. It was a little annoying, only because he was yelling, so Mister picked up our pager (for the food order) and held it up to his ear like a cell phone.

He was saying BUY!!! SELL!!! BUY!!! SPLIT!!! That alone put a smile on my face, but when it vibrated, lit up and sounded off, he nearly had a coronary and I nearly choked to death laughing. Lorne had the pepperoni flatbread and I had the pulled pork sandwich with ‘Polynesian chips’, which were the best part of the whole lunch. I had to stick Lorne’s hand with a fork a few times, when he tried to pinch some. And I can’t believe I actually forgot to get a Dole Whip, neither of us has tried them.
We then took the monorail to the Contemporary resort. It was fun watching the monorail run through it. For Pirates night on the cruise, I bought an eye-patch and earring for myself, and a ‘hook’ for Lorne. While walking around, he was in a silly mood and decided to wear the hook. But when he took it out of the plastic bag, he noticed that the tip of the hook had teeth marks on it, and it was a bit squished….someone had been chewing on it...and NOT THE CROC!!! We obviously had the receipt, but there was a big lineup, so we just swapped it with another one. In hindsight, I know we should have stood in line and pointed it out to the CM, but we didn’t think of that at the time, we just wanted to avoid the line. I know, I know.
After the Contemporary, we were in the front of the monorail again for a quick trip back to MK, where we got the bus back to ASMO. We decided that a little nap would be in order, and we will decide what to do in the evening.
After a little shuteye, we decided that we were ravenous. We had no ADR, and still a little groggy, so we decided to have dinner at the food court and just relax in the room. When Lorne opened the door, a balloon smacked him in the face. It really startled him, so he began swatting at it, when all he did was actually catch the ribbon to bring it closer to him. It was a riot!! It looked like the balloon was attacking him!! ……….and he looked scared.

Note to self..make sure we are fully awake when leaving room. He thinks its weird to take pics of food, so I will just say that he had a Double Cheeseburger with fries and I had a ‘build your own’ salad with grilled Salmon. THAT WAS THE BEST SALAD!!!
I don’t remember it being on the menu when we last stayed here. You choose your type of lettuce, then choose from (without exaggeration) at least twenty toppings, from raisins, cranberries, nuts, to olives, egg, bacon, along with the regular veggies and croutons, cheeses, and dressings. MMMMMMMM

We got there about 6:00, it wasn’t too busy, and it was raining a little. An hour later we were finished. It was as busy as H-E- Double Hockey Sticks, and pouring rain. That just confirmed that we would stay in tonight. I went back to guest services, and Rick was still on. LONG DAY!! But a long lineup too. I’ll wait until tomorrow. Anyway, we dodged the raindrops back to the room (got wet) and relaxed with the TV. The program called
Something about Jim was on, (Jim Belushi) and it was about his family traveling on the Disney Magic. How cool was that?
It was really neat hearing them mention all the different places on the ship, as well as Castaway Cay.
It was a fun day, we had ridden in the front of the monorail and seen three resorts which were new to us.
Tomorrow, another surprise for Lorne. One I’m excited about….

Cathy

Sounds like a great way to start a trip, the girls loved riding up front on the monorail, glad you got to do it.
