Lord of the Rings + Universal?

I remember hearing universal being very close to getting the rights for the lord of the rings, did they make an official announcement?

That would make universal the destination for my orlando vacations

No announcement...every few months the rumor pops up with "progress being made" but there's a lot of issues. Tolkien's estate apparently is very difficult to work with.
