So I wanted to get peoples opinions on this. I used to only go to Fort Wilderness as a kid. My DW joined my family a couple of years ago to tent camp at Fort Wilderness in August!!!! the difference between doing this as a child and an adult is quite extreme :faint:

I found it to be quite horrible and felt even worse for my DW who never really camped much as a child. (my family did it every summer, and we were conditioned for it because when my family finally got AC my Mom would never turn it on till it was over 90 degrees)

Somehow my wife has decided we should give it another try, though we are making the sane decision to go in March.

we are staying at partial hook up since we are tent camping and I wanted to know what the preferences were for loops 1500 and 2000 and why.

We don't have kids and we will have our car. we like our peace and quite, but we want to "experience" Fort Wilderness, and plan to explore a lot.

I think that is all the information that is needed but if I forgot something let me know.

Also I'm debating on whether or not to bring a crock-pot. we will have a screened in porch and I have read that people have had no problems with "varmints" (two and four legged) raiding their campsites, but I wondered if anyone here had any practical experience.
Thanks for any input

Air conditioning? You're so lucky! :rotfl2:

Growing up, we would stay at Loop 2000, and it was peaceful yet central to everything. On my honeymoon, we stayed at Loop 1500, right next to the Comfort Station. It was noticeably noisier- even if you took out the bus and boat noises, you'd still hear your neighbors and people traipsing through your site in the middle of the night! However, when we relaxed midday, we were across the street from the pool and Meadow Park. That was pretty convenient, since we didn't have to wait for a bus to take us to the pool.

I'm curious to see what others say about the crock pot, but I've never had anyone rifle through our unguarded stuff. Anything that was valuable we just locked in our car rather than leave it in the tent (you know, just in case).

At any rate, I love the Fort and can't imagine going anywhere else on Disney property. Even in the worst site, you're going to have access to the most relaxing resort grounds and the most unique activities (compared to other Disney resorts). Depending on what matters to you, ask for a site that is either close or far from the comfort station/bus stop/recreation... and just accept whatever loop they put you at. :) Have a great trip!

Joben,

I am sorry you had a bad experience on that summer trip. Orlando is pretty tough on tent campers in the summer. It rains nearly every day, it's hot and humid, and it's hard (literally) to dry out before the next day.

March is a MUCH better time to tent camp. While you have to still work the odds, March is cooler, drier, and more pleasant than August.

As far as 1500 versus 2000 loop, 1500 is closer to the pool and Meadow Trading Post but shares a Comfort Station with 1600. Loop 2000 is a little further away but has two Comfort Stations and the sites are bigger/roomier than the 1500 loop.

As far as peace and quiet, I would do 2000. There is a short cut through 900 loop to get to the pool area if you are on the backside of 2000, but I've stayed in both and each has its advantages.

Bring the crock pot and use it - it's a great tool. If you put it on the picnic table you might put something heavy on the lid to keep the raccoons from getting into your beef stew. Teen agers have been known to roam the Fort looking for outside coolers with adult beverages - I don't think a beef stew in a crock pot will detour them.

Hit us back with questions. I'll be at the Fort myself the last week of March 2014 so I practice what I preach (in my popup camper that is). :lmao:
