Afetr 3+ weeks of blindness, 7 brands of soft lenses and 8 dr. visits, looks like I am not a good candidate to switch to soft. Nothing seems to stay positioned correctly on my right eye. We ahve tried all different combonations, the lenses just won't stabalize. I have ordered my new gas perms and will hopefully have them next week. I know some of you were interested in brands, I have to say the soflens 66 and frequency 55 (both toric) were the most comfortable, with Acuvue being the thickest and most uncomfortable for me. Overall, my eyes have never felt better....rested and not as dry...irritation is gone. Thst is why I am so depressed about not being able to wear the soft...my eyes overall feel SO much better in them. However, I need to see, and after needing to be in my glasses so much I just can't stand them, even tho I have a relatively new frame, lightweight etc.
Oh well, sorry I don't have better news about switching from Gas Perm to Soft....but I would def. reccomend trying it if you can deal w/wearing glasses for a few weeks. Just because my eyes are bizarre, most people can switch according to my doctor.
Oh well, the good news is at least my corneas are back to normal...I just need to keep getting them checked every 6 mo's, and doing the eyeglasses/break thing if they begin to distort again.

I've had gas permeable for many years, and I haven't been able to switch to soft either. I tried soft for about 6 months, but the lenses kept sticking to the inside of my eyelid. Everytime I blinked they would move up and down and I felt like I was always looking under water.

I'm pretty happy with my gas perm though. My vision is much sharper than with the soft anyway.

Good news that your corneas are normal again...that's the most important thing.
But I'm sorry the soft contacts didn't work for you!
Last year I was debating going into the contacts that shape your eyes while you wear them at night, then take them out during the day. Since I had to go without gas perms for 3 months, the eye doc
gave me soft contacts to wear...I couldn't wear them..they were so big compared to the gas perms and irritated my eyes. So now I am back in gas perms ( bifocal, no less!)

Good news that your eyes are back to normal, but sorry to hear that you weren't able to make the switch to soft lenses. I wore gas permeables for over 15 years and was able to switch to the 24-hour soft contacts last year. It's so nice to wake up in the morning and not be blind as a bat (I literally could not see the giant display alarm clock that was 6 inches from my face)!

I couldn't wear softs. They were too big that I could never get enough oxygen in my eyes and they would go fuzzy after just 1 hour. I also can't wear them due to astigmatism. Only gas perms help my astigmatism go away.

When I switch back to glasses, my astigmatism suddenly comes back. And like you, I have to get checked every 6 months. Typically I have a prescription change every year. Boy... what a lot of money for the lenses. 6 months ago, my current glasses ended up costing $200 per lens!!!!

Good luck on the new gas perms.
