I'm neither gay nor American, but just wanted to say a big congrats to all those affected by this. Canada has allowed openly gay persons in our military since 1992, and there were cheers around the office the moment this was signed by the president.
I work in real estate, our company deals with moving military personnel. Although sexual orientation is not asked on our forms, spousal information could potentially "out" a person.
Hopefully soon this will be a non-issue, and all people can just live, free to be who they are.
