Although Joe and I recently came back from a trip to WDW, I am still planning on our regularly scheduled October trip this Fall. Joe, however, might not be able to come the entire time due to work. He's in the midst of a career change and might be teaching at that time. A part of me is looking forward to seeing WDW by myself, but another is gonna be pining away for my other half the entire time.

I have no problems going out to movies or having dinner out by myself. I'm certainly not shy and enjoy chatting up folks. But I just recall a trip a few years back. I had to go away to a conference in Florida a few years ago. I took an extra couple of days to enjoy myself and ended up bored beyond belief since Joe wasn't there to enjoy everything with me. I was at a beach resort so it's certainly NOT WDW.

Tell me I'm crazy for even thinking that going to WDW alone would be boring!!

Personally, I think you can be just about anywhere (even the happiest place on Earth!) but if you're not able to share it with the one you love, its not nearly the same.

Go and have a great time! Make new friends, meet some DISers, see Disney thru your eyes doing EXACTLY what you want to do, when YOU want to do it!

But there is certianly something to having loved one with you!

nah....you can do it Rick!!! If I can...I know you can! when are you going? I just got my plane tixs and ressies for Sept 29-Oct 3rd....doing the MNSSHP on the 2nd..............you wouldn't happen to be there at that time frame would you??
oh ya....my DD is at "MUGS" :teeth:

Actually, it'd likely be later in the month, closer to Halloween so unfortunately, I won't be there at the same time. Nuts!

Go for it, Rick.
But if you do, please, please, please finish your trip report.
You had me so hooked last time but I never saw the end of it.
I also wish you were going to be there Sept. 30-Oct. 3rd.
I would love to meet you, you sound like such a great guy.

Okay, you're crazy! lol!

Seriously, I have never traveled to WDW on my own, when you have kids that is not an option. However, this past December I took my DD (18) on a surprise trip with just the two of us. It was her Christmas gift and she only found out 19 hours before our flight! It was an awesome trip.

On our Epcot Day, the one day I was looking forward to, to walk around the countries of World Showcase and see all the Santas/Storytellers, Candlelight Processional, etc., she flaked on me after completing Future World and wanted to go back to the pool. I got upset with her and told her to go, but I was not leaving. I told her she HAD to meet me back for dinner and the CP.

As I started my journey around the "World" I was overcome with sadness that DD didn't want to do this with me and my SO was not with me. I called my SO from my cell, told him what was going on and started to cry. I really thought I was going to get some sympathy from him, but no, he yelled at me. Told me to get a grip, stop crying, take a deep breath and a good look around at where I was. Now, he said, get out there and enjoy the part of the trip you were looking forward to the most, and don't forget, you are never anywhere without a part of me. (sigh, this is why I keep him)

So, I listened, and you know what, I LOVED that day! I enjoyed taking my time and seeing what I wanted to see. For the first time I noticed all the little architectural details, costumes etc, of the countries because I didn't have kids or my SO saying look at this. By the time I got to France and got myself a slice of chocolate raspberry cake and took it outside to sit by the fountain to eat and just take in the sites, I was in heaven. A woman approached me and said you know you look like you are having a wonderful time, pointed to my camera and said can I take your picture for you?

I almost resented it when the time came to meet DD for dinner, but we had a wonderful evening.

I recently mentioned to SO that maybe, someday, I would like to take a trip all by myself, and he responded, yeah right. You got one trip alone with DD, you're never going again without me! Sigh, but I can dream can't I?

SO, bottom line, GO! Enjoy every minute of it, and remember a part of Joe is right there with you!

Rick,

I too am making my first solo trip this Oct 30-Nov 6th. I can't imagine being bored at WDW, although I guess there's always a first for everything. Why not make 10/30-11/6 a NYC solo week?

You guys are right. I'm not exactly worrying, just a little concerned. As before, I love to have dinner by myself, visit museums, etc... alone. I even look forward to going to movies by my lonesome. Not sure what it is that might make me hesitate (admitedly just slight hesitation) to go to WDW solo.

I guess, Miradawl, you hit the nail. I love WDW and it is indeed the happiest place on earth. I just like to share it with my better half whenever possible.

But heck, we aint conjoined! And I can talk the ear off a doorknob!

Well, if you're a talker you're all set! I'm a shy one, but I see those people who just can start a conversation out of mid-air (like my father) and I'm amazed. You'll probably meet some really neat people!!

Plus, a little longing for one another is always a nice relationship booster!! ;)

Hey Rick!

I am also doing the solo trip in October, or at least the first 3 days will be solo. My travel buddy will be in Ft. L with another friend the week before and they are thinking about sleeping on the extra bed in my studio at OKW for the last couple of days that I am there. They leave the first second week of October for Florida and I head down on the 16th. I am looking forward to being completely free of others for at least a couple of days. I really want to sit and listen to the FofN in FW at Epcot and also enjoy the KISS without keeping tabs on others, ie. I have to go to the washroom!. Stop and eat when I get hungery and ride when and what I want to ride without feeling guilty for leaving DM outside the ToT and RnRC. Have done PI as a solo this May, had a family adopt me for a couple of shows at CW and AC, it was very nice of them. I am doing MNSSHP on the 20th solo, they all pooped out early last year, that is unless the travel buddies show up.

Penny

I know that I will miss my regular travel partner, my DM, but it will make me appreicate her even more after I go without her.

rick, i agree you are crazy...lol :rotfl2:

seriously, though from reading your trip reports and responses on other threads i think you will still have a great time...even if Joe is not there.
I suggest you go and you never know it may work out and Joe may be
able to go; however, if not that's ok. You can "scout" for future excursions
for when he can go with you. :earsboy: GO YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME!

Solo trips are almost as fun as going with someone else. As a matter of fact, I may be taking more solo trips in the future. I enjoyed my last one so much I want to do it more often. You'll have fun Rick.

Boring ???? Nooooo, At one point I even try to looise my family to have an alone time at the WS :rotfl2:

also Rick, my first solo was this past May. I picked out a bench at each park. more or less just to relax. and I have to tell ya, It is SO entertaing just to sit and people watch!! and not once did I feel "funny" because even when people are together...they are not always together. so no one even looked funny at me. they are all to busy doing there own things!

I think you will have a blast!

Rick, you're not crazy.....or if you are, so am I. For I have the same worry. I really want to go back to the World, but I have never gone totally alone. I usually travel with family (brother & family, sister & family) but I don't want to keep butting into their family time. So it'll be a solo trip or nothing for me. I don't have a SO, and my sister who is single isn't into Disney. So do me a favor--go solo, write a trip report, and help me convince myself that I can have a great time solo!

Go and have a great time Rick!!! And Missy... you go too... Solo travel is fun also.. don't get me wrong.. a trip with a SO is always great..(and I'll let you know how that is when I actually FIND one!! LOL!!).. but there truly is NOTHING like experiencing Disney all alone.. it is a special experience.. one a true disney lover should do at least once!

Any questions or tips.. just ask.. I am heading down for my 4th solo trip in August!

Kathy

Rick, I too am going solo for the 1st time, but in September. I just booked it yesterday, and got a great AP rate. I did not book the free dining because I felt it would not be worth the difference in price (AP rate $59 per night, admission already paid for vs Rack Rate $77 per night plus 1 day admission $63.63). I'm just waiting for September's EMH's to be announced so I can plan my itinerary and my PS's.
I know how you feel about doing things alone. Table service dining single makes me uncomfortable. I'm going to focus on all the things I can do My :goodvibes Way.

Well Rick, if you decide to go and want some company...let me know!!! I have a DH who is really getting sick of our weekly trips to Disney and I think pretty soon he will not be coming along.....oh well, he can stay home with the dog!

Well, I'm actually starting to plan a solo trip. I've started counting vacation days, looking at air fares, trying to decide what days I'll go, etc. A lot of people are encourging me--of course, all of you here, but also a few friends. One told me when I was worrying about spending the money "money is money. Memories are improtant." I told a few family members and they think it's a good idea too. So I'm a few steps closer....
