Is it just me, or are the smoked turkey legs in the parks, a little too processed and the turkey is now more like ham? ;) I've eaten great smoked turkey before, and it wasn't as 'ham like' as the ones sold @ Disney. They're still pretty good though, but I was wondering if anyone else thought this. :)

myself, have never eaten one of those scary things.... :scared1:

but yes, have heard from others that they taste a little like ham!

My DH and I love them, but we always call them "ham-on-a-stick"! :)

They do taste a bit like ham but I don't care because they are just tasty! :)

I think they always taste a little like ham when they're prepared that way, because the ones at our local Renaissance Festival are the same way.

Smoky and Salty - makes everything prepared that way taste the same.

My Family loves them. We get stopped all the time and people ask where did you get that!!!!!!

Even if they did taste more like turkey, they'd still scare me. :lmao:

One of the biggest wastes of money EVER for our family...a guide book suggested them years ago as a bargain meal--so we ordered several..All but one ended up in the trash. YUCK!!!

Yep - I think all turkey legs have that ham-like taste. When DD worked out our Ren Faire here, there were always rumors flying around about what the turkey legs "really" are. But I think they can't be called "turkey" unless they're actually turkey, can they? Or else they would be called "turkey-flavored product legs" or something.... right?

Regardless, they gross me out, and after working at Ren Faire DD won't touch them, either!

The turkey legs at WDW are "real" turkey - I can remember watching a Disney Uncovered kind of show where they mentioned that the turkeys are raised to develop extra large legs instead of extra large breasts.

I agree that they do taste like ham, but as others have pointed out, that's the smoking (and brining?) process. My kids love them and I enjoy the first couple of pieces but am soon satisfied. My kids look forward to them like others look forward to Dole Whips.

I thought it tasted like ham, I tried one once, and that was it for me. I did not like how they tasted at all. I normally like ham, but not a turkey leg that tastes like ham...it was not good at all.

Ask any bus driver or monorail driver at Disney...those are EMU legs you're eating.

Hmmm they are called "alien legs" in Tomorrowland.

You know they really need to merge the two must-haves.

"Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Turkey Whip"

LOL! I was waiting for someone to post that!

I think turkey legs are one of those things that people either love or hate. Nothing in between.

I tried to love them, really I did! I even tried to like them! But no - they were just terrible. It's so fatty and greasy and nasty, it's amazing that you can nail down a flavor to taste like either a bird or a pig! Just thinking about them makes my stomach turn.

I'll take a normal turkey leg with good meat on it at Thanksgiving.
