Lookout beach security

My middle child and her brand new husband are heading next week on a 7-day honeymoon cruise. They're excited about Lookout and were watching some video TRs. The question is - do they need to worry about taking their stuff with them onto the beach and leaving it there when they go into the water? They've pointed out warning signs about personal property they saw in at least two videos.

I haven't seen anything about this or heard of any complaints up to this point. Is this really a problem to worry about?

Realistically, yes, you need to exercise caution when leaving things on a beach when you want to go in the water. At Disney or anywhere.

That said, you don't really need to take much to the beach. Towels are fine, maybe a book to read, a hat, sunscreen. All those are pretty safe to leave. Your cruise ID and credit card, those can get wet, and most swimsuits might have a pocket in them (I use a more time honored place of concealment for us ladies).

You might want a phone for keeping time and taking photos, too. That's riskier to leave on the beach.

You can get waterproof cases for phones. I use a waterproof camera and watch when I'm going swimming.

We did leave phones in the bottom of our bags while swimmming at both LC and CC, and the bags were kind of hard to get to, like between our loungers. To be more safe, I second the recommendation of the water proof phone cases. I've also seen a drybag type fanny-pack for snorkeling, if you don't want the phone floating around your neck. They could take one phone between them, for photos, and one person could keep it safe with one of these methods.

I have been on cruises where cameras were stolen on CC. If you have anything of value, leave it on the ship or purchase a bag with lock to store it.

Us too. Just recently. On the September 2025 cruise on castaway someone had their go-pro camera on their chair and went in the water. When they came back it was gone. So you really can’t trust your surroundings even on a private beach.

I guess we are just lucky. Between our 20 DCL cruises and our 30 RCL cruises, we've never lost or had anything stolen while on their private island. We don't do anything special other than tuck our phone out of sight when we go into the water or to get lunch.

I’ve lived in NJ 50+ years, been to the beach a thousand times, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t just throw a towel over their stuff or put it in a bag. I do the same on vacation.

There is no visible 'security' on the beach or cams on the beach so you are taking your chance that approximately 4000 strangers and staff would not yield to temptation. Its a closed environment so my guess is most staffers wouldn't want to risk their jobs, and most gainfully employed vacationers aren't thieves, but I also think most of us might recall something we did as kids that looking back maybe we shouldn't have (I know, not YOUR child). So you take your chances. For myself I have always felt safe and I just tuck valuables (phone, watch, camera) out of site. Really, the phones don't have much value to thieves (they are locked and at least iPhones can't be unlocked and resold, can only be parted out), my watch is not a Rolex, and my camera is covered by insurance. Oh and my sunglasses aren't raybans.

There has been a lot of issues with roving packs of kids onboard stealing things off doors and out of FEs in the last couple of years. Security is aware but there's only so much they can do. On CC or LC, that challenge is even greater.

I go by the old travel axiom, "keep valuables out of sight or locked in your room."
