looking to buy resale

I'm looking to buy a resale at BCV and have a couple of questions:

1. Why do most people sell their points?

2. Can the current owner reserve the date I want for May arrival while waiting for closing?

This is all new to me, as we have always stayed at Disney resorts when we visit and in the past 4 years we have come several times per year.

Members sell their contracts for a variety of reasons- change in financial situation, divorce, death, change in vacation habits, etc. Some have even found that DVC didn't meet their actual needs.

Disney will cancel all existing reservations during a resale process, so if the seller makes a reservation for a date after the closing, it will be cancelled- even if it's in your name.

You won't be able to make a reservation until your name has been entered into the DVC computer as owner of the contract. This is usually about a week after closing actually takes place.
