But we are worried about the true flexibility of using the points in the world passport collection. Have you used points? how hard was it to get what you wanted? how far out do you need to really plan with this collection?

My guide told us that something like 90% of peoples requests were met, but i figured i would ask here...

if there is a thread about this and I have missed it, can you please just direct me there?

TIA!!!!

If you are planning to trade out often then DVC is probably not the program for you. You will get the most bang for your buck by using it at the DVC resorts. If you want to use it mainly to trade out there are other timeshares that are cheaper.

As for trading, it can be difficult to get into some high-demand properties (Hawaii, some European & Caribbean destinations, etc.) and you will need to plan well in advance for those. You can book an exchange (or go on the waitlist if an immediate match is not available) up to 2 years in advance for Interval International trades.

Frankly, I don't believe that 90% of members' requests are met. That seems too high to me.

We both know using in the DVC is a much better deal than going outside, but has my husband and I have no children and are young. we wouldn't want to commit to Disney year in and year out for the next 49 years of our life. We know we wouldn't use the points on ABD or the cruise, but the world passport is a big incentive to green light this purchase. (I know my dh wouldn't be looking into this if we had no options outside disney.)

now aside from that, i don't believe my guide either. I know if we were wanting to go international we would be planning well in advance, but what about domestically?

Have you (anyone) used this for a ski trip, or to go to AZ? i have family in AZ and UT and am wondering if we want to go there in non peak times is it easy to book, say 4 - 5 months out? or in peak times can you plan 12-9 months ore is it basically 24months all the time?

Has anyone used the shorter get-aways? are those offered for all the places listed in that world passport list?

Thanks again for your help!!

We traded out for Arizona and went in January '06 (off peak) but we planned further out than 4-5 months. We were able to get something right away without waitlisting, but I don't know if there would have been any availability closer to our travel date.

If you're going to go skiing then peak time at any of those resorts is going to be whenever skiing is available. Off-peak would be the summer months. I would think it would be very difficult to book something at a ski resort on 4-5 months notice. Remember that it isn't just DVC members trying to trade into those properties. Interval International is a network of many timeshares so the demand for trades is high, especially to the premier properties/destinations.

Again, if you're going to use it to trade out a lot I would say it isn't for you. An option would be to buy fewer points and only go to WDW every other year, banking one year's into the next so you have two years' worth of points to use. If you purchase through DVC you must start with 160 points but if you buy a resale you can purchase less than that.

I don't think we would be trading out often, but it might be evry 4-5 years that we just want a change. The thing is that we will probably takevacations else where regardless, so we are just wondering if trading is really an option.

I am glad to hear that you had no problem with AZ. I guess I just wanted to know if trading is a viable option or if it is one of those "perks" that you can't really use because of the diffculties.
