I am looking into buying a Chromebook. I am going to use it for writing a blog (Wordpress), internet, photos saved to Flicker and Google docs. I am aware that there is no Office access, but Google docs can be converted to excel. What are your suggestions and has anyone had problems saving to the Cloud or converting to excel docs from Google docs? TIA

First I am NO computer expert....and things may have changed in the last year or two, but a couple of years ago, I was going to get a Chromebook for pleasure travel use.

I asked our IT guy at work and he strongly advised against it, because of the limitations of Chromebook.

He told me buying a new Asus netbook, or a refurbished Dell or other major refurbished computer brand small netbook or laptop would be a much more versatile and -- in the case of the Asus, cheaper.

As I said, I don't know if things have changed, but I am glad I followed his advice.

There are two Chromebooks in our household. The main use is web searching. However, DD in high school will use it for Google docs. The high school is strictly Google based. She said, if you print something it turns it into a pdf. I know of another district that has issued every high school student a Chromebook. I like it because it loads quickly, anti virus friendly, and syncs with my Google accounts and devices. It's not super versatile, but light weight, portable and the price is right.
