looking good in WDW

As for my hair, mine is about shoulder length and it gets frizzy in the summer. If I see my straightener isn't working I will just put it up and I don't know what all the fuss is about with scrunchies, in my neck of the woods (downtown Philly) we wear scrunchies all the time.
HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I will!!

Buy a Chi hair straightener. Pricey, but it was the best hair taming investment I ever made. It even works quickly on my DD with the corkscrew curls. You can get it through professional beauty supply stores, and I have also found it the salon at J C Penney.

I always look like a mess, I've sort of given up. I have a mild sunscreen allergy and am really fair-skinned, which means I'm traipsing around the parks in a fetching Solarveil ensemble that looks like a sun burqua, with a giant hat. Giant. Hat. Which means that I have giant.hat.hair. if I pop off my lid for a photo or two. ( www.solarveil.com for sun-protective clothing)

Since the sunblock clothing is very spendy, I wash it in the sink every night and wear with a pair of light linen pants or stretch leggings to keep as much skin covered as possible. Which means that all my photos look the same, you can mostly only tell it's a different day by the ever changing backgrounds. I had a hell of a time sorting out my cruise photos from the last two years, the only way I figured it out was by the formal night pictures! :)

I have a longer Solarveil tunic top for this year which isn't too bad, but I wouldn't call it fashionable, especially not with the giant.hat. Did I mention that not only is the Solarveil pricey, it's sheer, too? So, I've got the attractive combo of burlap sunblock top with longer sports bra or exercise tank underneath. wheeee! To be fair, it's very comfortable to wear, very light and cool, wicks sweat right out, washes easily, dries quickly, and even works in the pool, so, I can't complain, it does a fabulous job of protecting me, but I wish it were better looking.

I do wear Coppertone Faces until I start getting rashy (generally I can make it about two-three hours), and on top of it, I use Neutrogena Healthy Defense powder, which apparently has some sort of mineral in it that blocks sun. I use it to kill the shine and get a little extra protection. Once I give up and decide to wash off the sunblock so I don't claw my face off from the itching, I reapply the Neutrogena powder, both for the little bit of SPF and to hide the red blotchiness. At that point, the hat doesn't really come off anymore because my face isn't protected enough to go bare. The powder is supposed to be SPF 20, which is probably enough to protect me from anything that the giant.ugly.hat can't cover, but I wouldn't trust it out in the open sunlight for very long.

I also wear glasses, which makes it worse.

If I'm *not* doing the parks, I have a pretty rayon dress that actually looks pretty good with GiantHatOfDoom, but it's not heavy enough to keep me from getting burned from a day in the sun, so, no pretty for me in the parks.

My husband, of course, always looks cute. Not fair. ;)

Well... this is how we looked when we visited AKL.

I know how you feel. My mom and I were just discussing this the other day. I can't wear big T-shirts, shorts, hair in a ponytail, and tennis shoes. I might die! :rotfl: I get up two hours earlier than everyone else to get ready in the morning. I feel so much better when I know I look good. I told my mom if no one brought cameras then I wouldn't have to spend so much time getting ready :teeth: Also, it's a lot easier to get DFi to pay for things when I look cute ;) . I don't have any secrets though about staying "pretty", usually by 4 or 5 p.m. I'm looking ragged but we usually go back to the room for an hour so that helps. Anyways, people always think other people look more fabulous than them, I'm sure they're looking at you thinking "Geez, I wish I could look as fabulous as her!" :)

I was wondering about dresses and skirts at WDW. I'm going in september and don't really like wearing shorts cos i find them uncomfortable, but i was worried about the practicality of skirts and sun dresses at the parks.
Anyone got any advice?

I wear mostly sundresses everytime I go to WDW. I love them. It has never been uncomfortable and they look great. And in the evening I just take a cardigan or something if it's going to be cooler. Just make sure you watch your dress/skirt if you're getting out of a ride that's lower and you have to step up and over to get out of it. No one needs a free show! ;)

When DH and I traveled to rainy Scotland and Ireland, we didn't want to take a converter which meant no curling iron and no blow dryer. So Scrunchie, barrette, hairpins, whatever it took to make a ponytail/bun/twist and then several sprays of long-lasting, heavy duty hairspray. I am hoping the same technique will work in Dec at WDW, even tho' I plan on taking said curling iron!

Can someone recommend comfy shoes for evening suppers? I don't like my white Reeboks with casual cotton dresses but I can't wear flip-flops or other thong sandals.

Thanks, :paw: MHF :paw:

I guess when I go to Disney I really don't feel the need to get all dolled up because the make up by the end of the day will all come off. I also feel that being on vacation I don't have to impress anyone so I wear shorts, a disney Tee and comfortable shoes are a must. My hair is quite long and a bit curly so I always have it up. If it is a cool day I might wear it down but that isn't too often.

I myself am single and I do notice some of the other ladies of Disney walking around in heels all day just makes my feet ache, but to each their own as long as you enjoy yourself that is all that matters!

I have black leather slides/sandals that go with a variety of outfits, as well as several "mules" (backless heels/flats) that look nice with casual dresses.

Well, I am someone who simply cannot enjoy myself unless I feel that I look my best, especially when I know my picture is going to be taken several times that day.

Some of my tips:

my hair is naturally curly so I usually don't try to straighten it when I'm in hot humid Florida, although by using the right products it is definitely possible (frizz ease is great for this). I always wear my hair down when we head to the parks b/c I know they will take our picture when we arrive and I want to look good for that. As the day wears on if I get hot I always have a hair elastic in my pocket to pull my hair back in a ponytail. I will not leave my house in a scrunchie though!

makeup -- I was not blessed with good skin so I need something. I highly recommend Clinique's City Stick foundation -- it has amazing SPF and it will last through heat, humidity, and an occasional wet ride if you don't rub it off. I also recommend long-wearing lipstick. I feel I look washed out in pictures without some color on my lips. I always wear waterproof mascara too. I usually don't bother with eyeshadow in the heat though.

clothes -- I very rarely wear shorts these days as I feel they only flatter the very young and very thin (I'm 31). I usually wear capris although I don't feel they are very flattering either, they are the lesser of two evils. I agree a nice cotton skirt works well and I especially love skorts (skirts with shorts underneath).

My biggest tip is shoes. I usually wear Tevas sandals and they are every bit as comfortable as tennis shoes but look so much better. When you wear socks and tennis shoes it cuts off your legs and makes them look shorter and chunkier. Having no socks lengthens the line of the leg and is slimming. I have NEVER gotten a blister while wearing Tevas although I have gotten them while wearing tennis shoes. And yes, I always have a pedicure before vacation.

Some of my favorite photos ever are of dh and I on our honeymoon, so I'm glad I made an attempt to look good for those!
