looking good in WDW

I don't wear make-up at all anyway so I don't have to think about that.
I tie my hair back, and I don't have a fringe (or 'bangs', as all you American peeps call them/it) to worry about, but bits of hair generally fall around my face naturally (then get kiss-curly if it rains.. GRR!).
Clothing wise, I'm always dressed casually anyway.

I'm really low-maintenance I guess, so my routine in WDW is the same as back home (get up>shower/wash>dress>GO!).

It's 90 degrees and 100 percent humidity, you're hanging around outdoors, and you're worried about how you look?

I used to wear makeup in the parks. Then I realized that no matter what I did, my makeup melted off and there was no end to the shine. So, for the most part, I gave up. I still wear mascara and lipgloss, and concealer if I have a blemish, but that's it.

My hair's a different story. The first time I went as an adult, I had short hair and it was always flat and wispy. The next few times I had enough hair to pull back in a ponytail. Now I have short hair again, but it's cut specifically to work with my hair's tendency to frizz out in the humidity. One bright side of the recent humidity is that it's been like a test run for my next trip!

First I will describe myself. I am a 52 year old woman, married, but I vacation solo. My hair is naturally curly and I like it that way, so I begin my park day with damp hair. I actually like even going to work with wet hair.
( By the time I get to work, I just fluff my hair, and it's OK )
Anyway, I vacation in early December so I don't worry about shorts. I don't wear any make-up at WDW, just a lot of sun screen. I like to wear a nice cotton shirt, a little fancier than a T-shirt. There is a certain brand of
Men's Pants that I like to wear to WDW. These are " Russell Athletic"
exercise pants with 2 pockets. These pants have a simple elastic waist, and elastic at the ankles. They are made of T-Shirt material ! I think it is called a "jersey knit ". The pants are too long, so I just tuck up the ankles, and you can't even see that they have elastic ankles. ( This protects you from mosquitos, too ). These pants are really comfy. I like to buy new pants each year so they look new, and that's why I prefer to top this off with a really nice cotton shirt. I use my socks and sneakers/walking shoes

I hate shorts, so I'm usually wearing a flowy skirt with a tank top. To some I look dressed up, to me its just comfort. WDW is the only place I will wear shorts, my legs are thin but PALE!!!

As far as hair goes, its at a length where I can just let it air dry and it will be fine. My hair is pretty straight with a slight wave. Oh and you should get one of those little clips with the teeth. If you have long hair put it in a pony tail - twist and fold up then clip, makes a normal pony tail look like you're going out on the town.

Makeup, I don't wear much when I'm not in WDW so why would I add more while I'm down there. Just a little foundation and some concealer under the eyes if its been a long night.

A tip that I have heard recently is to get a bronzer. Stila sells a good one. This will give you the "glow" look. It adds some color and brightens up your face. I might be investing, as I said I'm pale. I do tan but my 9-5 job doesn't really help.

I LOVE benefit's bronzer. Its amazing! My best friend who is the palest person you will ever meet also uses it and she loves it as well!

I for one. like to look half-way decent...I like to wear shorts, I do not wear make-up(I am tan year round)I only wear mascara. and yes, I am showered and shaved and do my hair!!
you all have to look at me to! Just as I have to look at you all!
but jeans is one thing you just would NOT catch me in in disney...unless it was in January!

I totally understand where you are coming from. I took my first trip to Dis last Aug ( I'm also in my early 20s) I was pretty unimpressed with the way my photos turned out. ( I was going through of a bit of a pudgy and I don't care how I look so much because I already am settled down phase). But this time around I know better!
I agree that wdw isn't the place to get all dolled up but there is nothing wrong with being comfortable and presentable at the same time. Afterall, we are making memories to last a lifetime and it's nice to look back fondly on all aspects of the trip.
As for makeup I agree that a tinted moisturizer is your best bet, if you aren't looking to spend too much go for Revlon Skinlights products those always work great for me. They have SPF, some color and sparkle, and they leave you looking very clean-faced ( I believe they also make wet eye shadows that are really easily applyed and come in color combinations that are hard to fudge up). My hair is naturally curly so whether it's up or down it isn't time consuming or destroyed by the weather. For clothes I think boy cut tanks are the way to go, they are light enough to be layered for a trendy look but don't show too much up top, so you don't risk looking "trampy" lol. I think everyone wears shorts around the parks or maybe a comfy linen skirt would work well also. I like to pack a nice sundress and flip flops for dining.
Well I hope this was of some help! Good luck :wave2:

big old scrunchies are 80's and early 90's attire. thankfully we are now in the days of rubber bands/hair ties!

Ummmmm...

Rubber bands and hair ties are very 60's and 70's, for those of us old enough to remember!

I'm Claudia's age, and tend to wear business casual clothing. It's just my style and very comfortable. Slacks and a tank top or other top appropriate to the weather. Footwear is sneakers or walking sandals.

I'm very fair with skin that follows the burn, peel and freckle cycle. Sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater is mandatory. Beyond that, I wear a tiny bit of Smashbox cream eyeliner during the day. I take small containers of Bare Minerals makeup (foundation, Warmth, cheek color & Mineral Veil) and my current favorite mascara (Tova) if I want to improve the look at night or outside the parks. Those four little pots of colour have multiple uses and can be mixed to accommodate skin colour changes due to sun exposure. Lips are mostly some kind of moisturizer with a decent SPF factor--varies on each visit.

My hair is very thick and tends to wave and kink in the humidity. It's usually pulled back in a half pony tail or up in some sort of bun--which doesn't survive the day. My hair is too heavy and it's hard to balance it without fussing quite a bit.

Essentially, pulled together and as simple as possible! :)

Regardless of how well turned out I might be, I don't photograph well. I'm round and the camera does not like spheres! :(

I understand, as we rarely take pictures together anytime other than vacations! ;) We like to display the best ones in our home, so I like to look presentable.

For one, we don't go when it's hot. I think it's impossible to look decent in the July heat! =)

What I do:
- always wear a bit of makeup, and I wear the foundation/powder stuff, so it is nice to put on midday and easy to carry. I also wear tinted lipgloss so I look alive =)
- I wear skirts and tops. I hate shorts, and it's usually too hot for jeans. I look better, am more comfortable, and cooler in skirts. I feel more put together. And I mean those cotton, thin, cool skirts found at Ann Taylor Loft. You put one of those on and you instantly feel more put together and more presentable (at least me). IMO, very few women look good in shorts, but skirts fit the female body so much better and more flattering. Esp when paired with a cotton tank. HOWEVER, I always put on the anti-chafing stuff! =) Monestat's new powder/gel is great!
- I always fix my hair. Mine is too short to pull up, but one day last trip I decided to not fix it all the way and I hate every vacation picture taken that day because of it... It would have taken me 10 more minutes and those pictures would have been great! Course that was the day we met Belle/Beast and the Incredibles, LOL! Oh well, lesson learned. My hair stays put all day once I fix it. If I had long hair, I'd pull it back into a sleek bun or simple rubberband.
- I don't wear the Disney hats, buttons, fanny pack, etc. It's not my thing anyways, but I can't very well use a great picture of the two of us for something else later if I'm wearing a big Dopey hat, LOL! Plus it creases me hair and I end up having to refix it later if we want to go out. You can be a fan of WDW without a tiara on your head =)

The only "maintenance" stuff I carry is my compact (foundation/powder) and my lip stuff. I LOVE the Burt's Bee's lip shimmer - it's great and cheap!

I really don't do anything special. I look like crap in all of my pictures but I just don't care. I am there on a vacation. Plus (even though I'm 23) I am married. DH loves me just the way I am. I do like to make myself look good on occassion. But Disney is not one of them. Plus I have fair skin, I can never find the right stuff to make me look natural while wearing makeup. LOL. It's always too dark for me.
I too am paler than pale... blinding white (but hey, I live in oregon).

I go with Laura Mercier's tinted moisturizer (the lightest one they make) because it has spf 15 in it and I need something to even out tone. Bobbie Brown makes a great gloss with SPF 15 that I wear as well. I sweep a touch of simmery beige color across my eyes and put on a little waterproof mascara (hey, I live in oregon... it could rain at any time... I own nothing but waterproof). I look just done up enough to look good in pictures but not like my makeup bag attacked me.

Typically I leave my hair down but carry a mickey claw clip in case I need to do a quick french twist and get it up.

Hey...I'm married and I still care what I look like. I cared when I got married at 23 and I care now at 27. ;)

I basically had a "uniform" I wore when I went to WDW. It consisted of tanks, capris and filp-flops.

And even though I was on vacation, I still wore make-up. I figured I wear it when I go to DL, why wouldn't I wear it to WDW? I wore Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, blush, bronzer, mascara, tinted chapstick, eyeliner and (gasp!) eye shadow everyday.

I even blow dried my hair curly, frizzy hair straight almost everyday. :earsgirl:

I was wondering about dresses and skirts at WDW. I'm going in september and don't really like wearing shorts cos i find them uncomfortable, but i was worried about the practicality of skirts and sun dresses at the parks.
Anyone got any advice?

I suppose it depends on which attractions you might be riding, but I don't see why you couldn't spend the day in a skirt. I wouldn't wear a strappy top or sun dress just for the sake of not burning my shoulders where my bra straps will have to rest eventually.

I wear skirts more often than shorts, and I find a nice above-the-knee sleeveless dress the perfect thing to wear to dinner, especially in that climate.

Bottom line is, wear what makes you comfortable!

:flower:

Of course I care what I look like in WDW- those pictures will be all over my house and shown to everyone I know when I get back! :goodvibes

I also used to work in WDW so I found great ways to look good in the heat.

Hair: I always keep my hair simple- if it's long at the time, I will do a ponytail 9 times out of ten, unless I go back to shower before a nice dinner, then I will blowdry it and style it. If my hair is too short for a ponytail, I will either use a soft headband or 2 small clips that I use to make my hair look sort of like Belle's- I roll each side almost like a French twist and then clip it and leave the rest down. Looks cute with shorter hair. I don't have patience to straighten or curl every day, and I do get irritated when sweaty hair gets plastered to my neck or face. I generally spend 5-10 minutes on my hair, unless I have to blow it dry, which I don't do all that often.

Clothes: I usually wear jeans or capris and a nice t shirt or thin knit top, occasionally a tank top. I also always bring a sweater or sweatshirt because I always find myself freezing in restaurants and stores. If it is exceptionally warm, I will wear shorts, but only denim. I am not a huge fan of shorts. Going out to dinner, I usually wear a dress.

Makeup: I do this everyday- whether I'm going to MK, a water park, whatever. It takes about 3-5 minutes and it's worth it. I happen to like Suzanne Somers' spray on foundation, but I usually skip foundation in favor of a tinted sunscreen by Avon "Visual Perfection" and then a little of the spray foundation on a makeup wedge just under my eyes and a little mineral veil (Bare Escentuals) to cut the shine. (I bring that with me for touch ups) Waterproof mascara (I love Avon's waterproof Beyond Color in Navy) and a little Big Color (Avon again) chunky pencil on my lids like shadow. I fill in my brows with Clinique brow powder using an angled brush. Then I use a little blush- favorite is Nars in a name I don't know if I can say here? Starts with "O" - A big one. Got it? Then I use clear lipliner (Avon's glimmersticks) and lip gloss. I have millions of lip glosses- the best are the beComing ones from Avon "gloss over" in Magnetic, Sinful, Sassy or Flirt. Love them! I also like Avon's Color Definition duos- a sheer lip and lip pencil in one. I also toss whatever lip item I used in my bag for touch ups. Done! Most productive 3 minutes of my day!

If I am going out to dinner, I might do something more elaborate with my eyes, shading, highlighting, eyeliner, etc. I love the Avon beComing, MAC and Clinique eyeshadows the best. I might use foundation, I might use real lipstick and liner instead of a gloss, I might use bronzer, brow gel, etc. 5-10 minutes in this case.

Basically, your concerns are time efficiency and staying power- whatever you do, you want it to remain like that, not droop later on- that's why I use just a few waterproof items and generally just a ponytail- I know I'll look the same after Splash Mountain. :goodvibes

My tip - enjoy yourself, don't stress about how you look. Then when you get home just photoshop out all the ugliness! That's what I do anyway. LOL

:cheer2:

I always find that if you wear a nice outfit; simple sundress/ cute tank top/ nice capris, it seems to matter less about make-up.

I generally don'gt wear much make-up anyway, but occasionally, I may wear waterproof mascara and a little highlighter.

I always wear lip balm though, because, not only does it look nice and brighten up you face, many brands contain an SPF, which is always good.

I will deffinately be taking blotting paper, which really helps if you're looking a little shiny throughout the day.

My new discovery is dry shampoo. I just spray some on halfway through the day and it really refreshes my hair.
I have REALLY fine hair, so this will be a huge help this year, especially for photo time :earsgirl:

Can't wait for WDW 2005 (just hope the pictures are OK)

Krystal

I very rarely wear makeup, so only except for sunscreen and a chapstick or something, I only do at WDW if I am going out at night, and not even then, I don't blow dry my hair, as I need a difuser with my curly hair, and I can't take it with me, and it looks better air drying. Basically I take a shower, brush my teeth and hair, and put on shorts and a t-shirt or tank top (jeans if it is cold) and leave, and I don't look sloppy. I might rinse my face off and reapply the sunscreen and chapstick if I get hot and need it, but that is about it. My pics from WDW usually look better than the ones that I take at home,

I posted this in another forum. I am going in October and am VERY worried about pictures -- after all everyone wants to see them and I am very vain when it comes to how I look in them.

I am doing capri pants and cute summer tops -- mostly cotten plain tees etc.

For my feet though, it's sneakers and socks -- I am just NOT taking any pix of my feet. I can't deal with blisters or cuts. That's the WORST.

I am taking a couple cute pairs of sandals and my skirts etc. for fancy dinners (California Grille, Artist Point) but I only plan on having those shoes on for a couple hours so it won't be a problem.

As for my hair, mine is about shoulder length and it gets frizzy in the summer. If I see my straightener isn't working I will just put it up and I don't know what all the fuss is about with scrunchies, in my neck of the woods (downtown Philly) we wear scrunchies all the time. They are much easier to handle than barettes and clips etc. I would DIE without them.

Makeup will be minimal -- just enough to get rid of the bags under my eyes and I'll reapply lipstick as needed.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I will!!

I don't dress much different in Disney that I do here in Boston on summer weekends- ponytail, minimal makeup, sunglasses, shorts, plain colored T's (they have them 5 for 20 at Lady Foot Locker by the way). The only difference is that except for cute sandals, I wear sneakers and socks...and I preferably don't have the sneakers showing in pics! I hate wearing sneakers BUT I personally find them a necessity in Disney. I also bring sundresses/capris and sandals for dinners (when I won't be walking miles!)

That being said...my vanity caused me to get my hair cut and highlighted last night (I like the color better after a week!) and I always have my eyebrows waxed before any occasion where I will be photograped frequently!
