i hope i don't sound shallow asking this....

but I wondered how the girls among us (or the guys if you like), stay looking good in wdw?

At home I'm always well presented and well turned-out, but in wdw I dress for comfort and convenience.

This is fine of course, but my photos from my last trip were so bad I didn't want to show them to anyone, I looked like a tramp! And yet I always see other people my age (early 20s) walking around wdw looking fabulous.

I wondered if you had any advice on retaining a little bit of style when headed to the parks?

First, I always pull my hair back. It is way too hot and humid to have hair on your back & neck. I also wear very little make-up, usually just waterproof mascara, and a little concealer if needed. I also wear very little clothing, as it is so hot, but still make sure nothing is hanging out that shouldn't be. I like to wear a jean skirt or shorts, and a tank top with some comfy sandals. There is a time and place for low-cut tops, but WDW isn't it.

I not only go comfortable in the clothing department, but I only do myself up when I go to the parks and know I'm going to get my pic taken. The other hotel days are my 'ugly days'. But on the park days what I usually do is wear almost the same makeup, but just put it on with a lighter hand. I definitely avoid foundation, and wear less eyeliner and lighter shadow colors. Definitely no lipstick, but maybe a little gloss. Generally it's Carmex or chapstick for me, though. Hair is always up and out of my face. Clothes are usually shorts and a light shirt and flip flops.

I've had years where I've looked terrible in pictures because I didn't wear enough makeup or do my hair that well, and there's been other years I've been too 'made up' b/c the pics were taken right when we arrived at the park. Sometimes it takes trial and error to find a happy medium.

Give yourself a polished 'beach look', and you should be fine.

Hair usually starts out up. My hair is pin straight but once I walk into the humidity I swear it suctions onto my face head and neck. I always wear mascara (and concealer if needed) theres really no pt in anything else as it will just melt off. Then I wear a skirt (I hate shorts, I'm a little person but no matter what size you are when you sit down your legs expand and the shorts always feel tighter!) Then a tank top or fitted t (usually a tank top though) pair that up with a pair of flip flops and I"m good to go. O yea and at night sometimes I'll wear a pair of capris.

Tinted moisturizer!! I mix a bit of my daily moisturizer with my foundation and let it set -- it doesn't get cake-y. I wear eyeliner and mascara and that's it -- no blush or eyeshadow, which just sweats off, or lipstick. If you're concerned about shininess, tuck some of those little blotting pads in your bag and just use throughout the day.

Also, a light-colored shirt or tank won't show sweat as bad. My last set of photos were AWFUL -- I'm not used to being there in June (we usually always go in Oct. or Nov.). I wore a tank top that was too big and my bra showed in nearly every photo –- DH should have told me!

My biggest complaint is sweaty bangs that plaster themselves to my forehead, so I think next time I'll just part my hair on the side, pull it up in a bun and pin my bangs on the opposite side of the part. We'll also be kid-free this trip, so I'll be lugging less equipment.

Hair up and pulled back into a nice pony with a barette, NOT a scrunchy! I ususally bring a hair iron wherever we go because it does a great job of making my hair straight, glossy and keeps the humidity from ruining it.

In a warm place like FL, I would do the moisturizer-foundation trick like Gypsy, too. You might want to check out the 3 day (no, you don't have to wear it for the entire 3 days) mascara from Revlon and the 'all-day' two-step lip colors. The mascara will never run or flake and the lipcolor stays on all day, even after eating, drinking, sweating, etc. I suggest you purchase the makeup remover at the same time because neither comes off without it!

Not makeup I wear everyday, but it's great for vacations where you're in and out of the water or the humidity is high!

I worked at Blizzard Beach in the summer of 2002.... it was HOT!!!! Even thought it's a relaxed atmosphere, I still wanted to look good (I met my boyfriend there afterall)... The only makeup I could wear was sparkly chapstick. I would use it on my eye lids and on my lips. It helped out a lot! I was always jumping into the water when I was working, so any eyeliner or mascara would be running down my face

the chapstick was always really pretty in the sun.

take your makeup with you and call for a restroom break before pictures.

after the pictures are take go back in the restroom and take it off.

that is a lot of trouble!!!

So I don't!!!

I have pretty good skin - so I don't wear any makeup - although I need mascara badly.

the only thing I put on skin - is sun screen. I use the one for faces.

That reminds me of SATC when Carrie explains to Berger the one fault with his novel was the fact that no sane Manhattan woman would wear a scrunchie!

Well, I'll start by saying that I am, at best, an average looking person. Normal face, boring hair and kind of pudgy. Honestly, I look god awful in all my WDW pictures and I don't really care.

You're on vacation, who cares what you look like? If you see people walking around looking terrific, it's probably because they spend way too much time thinking about how they look and not as much time just relaxing and having fun.

I see girls walking around WDW all the time in heels that look painful, wearing makeup that looks weird because it's running from the heat and humidity and clothes that just look ridiculous in a theme park.

Personally, in WDW I usually wear jeans (I hate shorts but I guess if it's really hot I'll break down and wear them for the sake of comfort), t shirts and sneakers. Hair is pulled back and I never wear makeup or hair care products anywhere because I just don't care. I really could not see taking away park time to do that every morning before the parks though.

I say, pull your hair back, throw on a tee shirt and jeans and some sneakers and just enjoy.

I do actually care about how I look. I'm not vain, but I do care enough to spend the extra 5 minutes a day it takes to groom my hair and apply a bit of make up to achieve a slightly polished look, even on vacation. If my hair looks good, I feel good and wearing a little makeup reduces sun exposure and the resulting wrinkles. I can't relax and have fun if I feel sloppy. And believe me, I love to relax and enjoy vacations!

By the same token, I run every day and I could care less how I look when I run. I don't run because I'm vain, I run because I love food and this way I can eat whatever I like and still fit into an airline seat! :rotfl:

ITA! What's 5 min when you consider I"ll feel better the rest of the day AND look better in my pics! I run for food too! I love food and people who are on these fad diets annoy me....just exercise people! (this is not at people who exercise and use fad diets)

I really don't do anything special. I look like crap in all of my pictures but I just don't care. I am there on a vacation. Plus (even though I'm 23) I am married. DH loves me just the way I am. I do like to make myself look good on occassion. But Disney is not one of them. Plus I have fair skin, I can never find the right stuff to make me look natural while wearing makeup. LOL. It's always too dark for me.

I'm not saying don't comb your hair, shower and otherwise look presentable. I'm just saying, I don't see the point in making yourself up at WDW.

To each their own I guess.

usually shorts and a tank top...i leave my hair down ,just bc i look weird with it up for some reason....not much makeup ..just powder and mascara

What's the pooh on scrunchies?

big old scrunchies are 80's and early 90's attire. thankfully we are now in the days of rubber bands/hair ties!

Casual doesn't bother me, but I can't stand sloppy. There is a difference IMHO. I don't consider makeup-less sloppy, sloppy to me are clothes that weren't looking so hot when they were put on ("fresh out of the hamper" look ;) ).

I don't wear a ton of makeup normally, I'm pretty lucky to have decent skin, but I still wear tinted moisturizer with SPF at the parks. I top that with powder. I put on some mascara, and for my lips one or two things: I use lipliner to line AND fill in my lips, then top with a little lipslick for moisture (this lasts FOREVER), or just use the tinted lipslicks by itself. I have a deep aversion to the "oil slick" look, and would be sure to at least frequenty blot my face with a tissue if I didn't want to powder it. But personally if I was looking that bad, I'd go into a restroom, rinse off my face and then repowder. But that's my own little pet peeve :)

My hair is too thin and my forehead too broad to go bangless and simple ponytail, but I envy those who can. I can't stand sloppy bangs, or limpy stringy anything, so I just blow mine dry with the little curly brush to keep it from plastering to my face if a I get a little "glisteny", and they stay fairly well kempt and "Tailored". I can't stand hair on my neck when I get hot, so I twist it up and clip it. It's casual, easy, but feminine. I find that the Frizz Ease Hairspray goes a LONG way to keeping hair from totally freaking out in the humidity. Just a little spritz on the sides and to the bangs to keep them from curling/poofing mercilessly but without looking helmety ;)

As for clothing. I'm a..well, let's just say "curvy" girl. Shorts are not just a "no", but a "heck no" for me ;) I like to wear capris and a Tee in the baby doll shape. Well ironed...I know it sounds weird, but I swear ironed clothes stay cooler for longer since they don't cling as much. I wear tennis shoes, which I've always hated wearing, but it's a necessity. Still, I stay fairly cool and comfy, but don't look sloppy.

I know this sounds complicated, but all of this takes me like 10 minutes and I'm out the door! I'm not a natural beauty in the morning :rotfl2: If I tried to just roll out of bed and go as is, by the end of the day I would personally look twice as bad as road kill. Though I get just as tired and wilted looking as the next person, it's rarely anything I'm embarassed about in pictures b/c I started out groomed (though that does not mean I don't do the usual 'gah! I'm the least photogenic person in the world!' ;) )

i'm fair skinned too and i hate it sometimes espically in the summertime. no matter what i do my legs look like they could glow in the dark and you can always see the hair folicles so i hate wearing shorts. and the funny thing is, i can't tan. i don't tan or burn, i just get a little pink on my nose and shoulders and a day later it goes away. the only thing that i can do is the spray on tan which works for about a week so usually i'll do that and i'll look better in make-up.
