I never think about retiring (I’m 46 years old), I like my job and believe that some people look forward to retirement is so they can travel more but I get 5-1/2 weeks off a year so I’m able to travel now. I like having a decent paycheck and being mentally and physically able to work.

Am I in the majority or the minority??

I never thought I would like to be retired. 6 yrs ago I lost my job of 18 yrs and took my time finding another one. Turns out I was off for 11 months. Boy was I ready to go back to work! But now I find myself looking forward to 2010 when I can retire and collect SS and have med insurance. Then I will have the freedom to work part time and still have the time to "play". I have a neighbor who does that and it sure is looking good to me.

I get over 6 weeks vacation time a year and I am still looking forward to retiring! I am only 41 though and I have to work just about 8 more years until I reach the retirement age for the company I work for...I will have 30 years there and we 50 years old.

Retiring, to me, doesn't mean not working, and sitting around being bored. It means not working for a living. You can still work, have hobbies, and be productive, but everything is on your own schedule. I am 49 and would like to "retire" from my real job in two or three years. I would still "work" with my husband in the antiques business, enjoy our 15 acres of land, woods, garden, etc. I could be busy on our land and around the house several hours a day, I'm sure, and would not feel guilty spending some time in a rocker on the front porch, either!

I have a long way to go before I retire. I took time off after leaving my previous job and before I started my current job. I was off for 3 months and I got sooooo bored. I may feel differently in 20 or so years when I am closer.
