We are flying into the Orlando airport at 4:15pm on New Years Eve. We can either rent our minivan for $710 thru Dollar at the airport OR take a van to our resort on Internation Drive (Renaissance) and taxi over to the Alamo rental place in Lake Buena Vista on Friday, January 2nd, for a total cost (including van, taxi and minivan rental) of $600. It would save us $110, but we are pretty independant folks and like going when we want. We will be on International drive and can trolley places to eat and shop? What would you do ... I am looking for any angles I may not have thought of. Thank you so very much for your inout!!:sunny:

For me 110 is a lot of money, but vacation time is also very special.
Bite is bullet and pick up the van at the airport, this way you won't have to spend more time on picking up the car later on. Also what is your time worth on vacation??

Renaissance Orlando Resort on I-Drive has a Budget counter right inside.

If you don't mind using Alamo, try punching in your numbers at : www.rentacar-usa.com . They seem to have much lower prices during the holidays. For Thanksgiving time everyone else was giving me a price of over $500...I got it through here for $294 (10 days/economy). That's a BIG savings. I found this website (Nove Car) through MouseSavers.

Personally, I'd just rent it at the airport.

$110 is not that much "savings" when you're talking about all the extra time needed to "tool around". Plus, you'll have to repeat the same steps when you're ready to leave.

I'd just eat at McDonalds one night for dinner instead of a resturant to "make up" for it.

OMG!!!! I've been searching for weeks and weeks for a rental over the christmas holiday. I used the web site listed in the post and Wala! -- an economy car for 32/day all taxes included. I looked up dates for 12/31 through 1/6 and got the quote of 379.00 for 7 days TAX INCLUDED!! I didn't know your actual; time frame so I put in these arbritrary dates. You should check this out!!! My best quote with every discount I could scrounge(ap, aaa, mousesavers, coupons etc...) was 55.00/day all taxes included. I do not know how to connect you to the web site but the adress is www.rentacar-usa.com. I think the prices are lower because the negotiate as Europeon company(located in Ireland) so I think this is quite the FIND!! I'm definitly one for conveince over cost BUT the cost's I've been finding would have put me in your situation right quick!! GOOD LUCK deciding and have a GREAT vacation!!!!

Kevinswife2 ~ THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! One more check on my TO DO list!

Debbie,
Glad I could help! I checked with Alamo and the rates Nova Car quote are 'tour package rates'. I've been checking them for a long time and their prices don't fluctuate very much (not like the other rentals) Their prices were higher than others for 'non-holiday' times, but for a holiday rental, they CAN"T BE BEAT!
