Hi all,

I am looking at purchasing a bunk bed for the kids room. Has anybody bought new bunk beds online? If so please share the website and experience. Would you buy from them again.

Sleepless in St. Louis:rotfl2:

this place is awesome and really good quality furniture. It also works well for girls or boys.

My boys are using a bunk bed set from them purchased in the 80's and still awesome shape. They will be passed on from me to my brothers as my boys get older.

This End Up from the 80's is NOT the This End Up of today...the original went out of business years ago and sold the name. I loved the old ones, not a huge fan of the "new" company.

If you can find the old This End Up via resale you are in business.

I really like Vermont Tubbs, excellent furniture.

I purchased Land of Nod and have been very happy.

We purchased two sets of metal full-over-full bunk beds from simplybunkbeds.com. We love them! We bought them two years ago right before we left on a Disney trip - not the best time to do remodeling projects of two bedrooms!

We got awesome prices - I googled for coupon codes. I did have to place two separate orders.

what ever you do don't buy anything from http://www.mercantila.com/ they go by many websites for instance i bought my daughters bed from here http://www.loftbed-store.com they have all kinds of sites with specific names like that but all are mercantila and they are AWFUL sent me a broken loft bed.... wouldn't replace it blamed me finally replaced it when i threatened BBB action.... it was replaced with another broken bed but it was much less broken then the first so we kept it the whole purchase get it return get a new one process took 3 months and they were AWFUL didn't care didn't help i had to send over 30 pictures of the dammage to get them to admit that i couldn't possibly have caused the problem even though the shipper that dropped it off noted the damage on this carrier slip... AWFUL

i say watch craigslist personally at least for a couple of weeks.

I like the Ikea bunkbeds and loftbeds and they are very reasonably priced. I got my son's used off Craigslist for $150. He used it for 3 years and I sold it on Craigslist for $75.

I also was going to suggest This End Up. We have had mine, now my son's for well over 20 years. I was not aware that they just sold off the name and are now a different company, however I knew they were in trouble and closed their stores. The newer stuff I have seen is still as nice, just as pricey and same style.

We got our kids bunks at WalMart and they are a great quality. (Yes they are real wood) They have held up well, we've had them bunked and separated in different rooms. Plus they were easy to put together.

According to the website, they didn't go out of business, they just eliminated retail stores.

"Q1.There used to be a store near me. Where is the closest store now?

Answer:
All of the retail stores were closed in the year 2000 as part of the liquidation mentioned below. We sell exclusively over the internet to retail customers and through our network of Commercial Sales Professionals to institutional and GSA customers.

Q2. I heard that This End Up filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is no longer in business. What's going on?

Answer:
Citicorp Venture Capital, the former owner, filed for bankruptcy in January 2000 and subsequently liquidated all assets in late 2000. We purchased the Company's intellectual property, including the name, trademarks, registrations, product designs, customer lists, and certain other rights associated with the Company. We now offer most of the furniture pieces the previous company offered as well as two new lines of furniture. Please take a look at our Artisan and Coastal Cottage lines.

Q3. Why are other companies claiming that This End Up is out of business, and claiming to be the originators of your furniture?

Answer:
We can't control how our competitors behave or what they say. We prefer to focus on rebuilding This End Up and providing our customers the finest products and the highest quality of service. The fact remains, though, this is the only place to get authentic This End Up furniture. We are the only manufacturer of the furniture you have come to know and love. The dimensions, design, finish, and most importantly the durability and quality you have come to expect from This End Up is only available from one source...and that's us!"

Honestly we got the Wal-mart bunkbeds. They cost about $200. We've had them for 4-5 months now and they're holding up really really well. Much better than I expected. They're the wood ones, not metal. I don't like metal bunkbeds.

No matter what brand you get a few tips: Make sure everything is tightened well. I think this contributes to half the woobliness people have with bunkbeds.

Take measurements and go to a store like Lowes and have them cut you a piece of plywood instead of buying bunkieboards. It'll cost you about $20 each (I think bunkieboards run about $15) so a touch more, but it stabilizes the bunkbeds more AND provides a lot more support for the mattresses.

I'm also a big fan of putting regular twin size mattresses on bunkbeds instead of the cheapie bunkbed mattresses. They're much comfier :)
